話說齊天大聖空著手敗了陣，來坐於金兜山後，撲梭梭兩眼滴淚，叫道：「師父啊，指望和你：The story goes that the Great Sage Equal to Heaven, defeated and empty-handed, came to sit behind Jindou Mountain, his eyes streaming with tears in a steady patter, and cried out, "Master, ah! I had hoped that with you—"

话说齐天大圣空著手败了阵，来坐于金兜山后，扑梭梭两眼滴泪，叫道：「师父啊，指望和你：

大聖悽慘多時，心中暗想道：「那妖精認得我，我記得他在陣上誇獎道：『真個是鬧天宮之類！』這等啊，決不是凡間怪物，定然是天上兇星，想因思凡下界。The Great Sage grieved bitterly for a long while, then thought secretly to himself: "That fiend recognizes me — I recall that during the battle he praised me, saying, 'Truly one of those who wreaked havoc in Heaven!' Being so, he is surely no mortal monster, but must be some baleful star from Heaven above, who, I suppose, longed for the mortal world and descended to earth.又不知是那裡降下來魔頭，且須上界去查勘查勘。」I still do not know from where this demon-head has come down, and I must go up to the Heavenly Realm to make inquiries."

大圣凄惨多时，心中暗想道：「那妖精认得我，我记得他在阵上夸奖道：『真个是闹天宫之类！』这等啊，决不是凡间怪物，定然是天上凶星，想因思凡下界。又不知是那里降下来魔头，且须上界去查勘查勘。」

行者這才是以心問心，自張自主，急翻身，縱起祥雲，直至南天門外。Thus it was that Wukong questioned his own heart with his own heart, and settling the matter himself, he swiftly turned his body, rose upon an auspicious cloud, and went straight to the outside of the Southern Heavenly Gate.忽擡頭見廣目天王，當面迎著長揖道：「大聖何往？」行者道：「有事要見玉帝。Suddenly raising his head, he saw the Heavenly King Wide-Eyes, who came forward to meet him face to face with a deep bow, saying, "Where is the Great Sage bound?" Xingzhe said, "I have business and must see the Jade Emperor.你在此何幹？」廣目道：「今日輪該巡視南天門。」說未了，又見那馬、趙、溫、關四大元帥作禮道：「大聖，失迎。What are you doing here?" Wide-Eyes said, "Today it falls to my turn to patrol the Southern Heavenly Gate." Before he had finished speaking, the Four Great Marshals Ma, Zhao, Wen, and Guan also came forward with courtesy, saying, "Great Sage, forgive us for not greeting you sooner.請待茶。」行者道：「有事哩。」遂辭了廣目並四元帥，徑入南天門裡，直至靈霄殿外，果又見張道陵、葛仙翁、許旌陽、丘弘濟四天師，並南斗六司、北斗七元，都在殿前迎著行者，一齊起手道：「大聖如何到此？」又問：「保唐僧之功完否？」行者道：「早哩，早哩，路遙魔廣，才有一半之功。Please stay and take some tea." Xingzhe said, "I have urgent business." Thereupon he took leave of Wide-Eyes and the four marshals, and went straight in through the Southern Heavenly Gate, all the way to outside the Hall of Miraculous Mist, where indeed he again saw the Four Heavenly Masters — Zhang Daoling, the Immortal Ge, Xu Jingyang, and Qiu Hongji — together with the Six Officers of the Southern Dipper and the Seven Primes of the Northern Dipper, all waiting before the hall to greet Xingzhe, and together they raised their hands in salute, saying, "How does the Great Sage come to be here?" And they asked further, "Has the task of guarding the Tang Monk been completed?" Xingzhe said, "Far from it, far from it — the road is long and the demons many; only half the merit has been achieved so far.見如今阻住在金兜山金兜洞。At present we are blocked at Jindou Mountain, in Jindou Cave.有一個兕怪，把唐師父拿於洞裡，是老孫尋上門與他交戰一場，那廝神通廣大，把老孫的金箍棒搶去了，因此難縛魔王。There is an ox-demon there who has seized Master Tang and taken him into the cave. I, old Sun, went to his door to challenge him to battle, but that fellow's magic powers are vast, and he snatched away my gold-banded cudgel, so that now it is hard for me to bind this demon king.疑是上界那個兇星思凡下界，又不知是那裡降來的魔頭，老孫因此來尋尋玉帝，問他個鉗束不嚴。」許旌陽笑道：「這猴頭還是如此放刁。」行者道：「不是放刁，我老孫一生是這口兒緊些，才尋的著個頭兒。」張道陵道：「不消多說，只與他傳報便了。」行者道：「多謝，多謝。」I suspect he is some baleful star from the upper realms who longed for the mortal world and descended below, and I do not yet know from where this demon-head has come, so old Sun has come to seek out the Jade Emperor, to ask him about his lax oversight." Xu Jingyang laughed and said, "This monkey-head is still up to his tricks." Xingzhe said, "It is not tricks — it is only that old Sun has always kept his tongue rather tight, and only that way can one get to the root of things." Zhang Daoling said, "No need to say more — let us simply announce him." Xingzhe said, "Many thanks, many thanks."

行者这才是以心问心，自张自主，急翻身，纵起祥云，直至南天门外。忽抬头见广目天王，当面迎著长揖道：「大圣何往？」行者道：「有事要见玉帝。你在此何干？」广目道：「今日轮该巡视南天门。」说未了，又见那马、赵、温、关四大元帅作礼道：「大圣，失迎。请待茶。」行者道：「有事哩。」遂辞了广目并四元帅，径入南天门里，直至灵霄殿外，果又见张道陵、葛仙翁、许旌阳、丘弘济四天师，并南斗六司、北斗七元，都在殿前迎著行者，一齐起手道：「大圣如何到此？」又问：「保唐僧之功完否？」行者道：「早哩，早哩，路遥魔广，才有一半之功。见如今阻住在金兜山金兜洞。有一个兕怪，把唐师父拿于洞里，是老孙寻上门与他交战一场，那厮神通广大，把老孙的金箍棒抢去了，因此难缚魔王。疑是上界那个凶星思凡下界，又不知是那里降来的魔头，老孙因此来寻寻玉帝，问他个钳束不严。」许旌阳笑道：「这猴头还是如此放刁。」行者道：「不是放刁，我老孙一生是这口儿紧些，才寻的著个头儿。」张道陵道：「不消多说，只与他传报便了。」行者道：「多谢，多谢。」

當時四天師傳奏靈霄，引見玉陛。At that time the Four Heavenly Masters relayed the report up to the Hall of Miraculous Mist, and led Xingzhe in to see the Jade Emperor.行者朝上唱個大喏道：「老官兒，累你，累你。Xingzhe made a deep bow upward and said, "Old Sir, I have troubled you, I have troubled you.我老孫保護唐僧往西天取經，一路凶多吉少，也不消說。I, old Sun, am escorting the Tang Monk on his journey to the Western Heaven to fetch the scriptures, and along the way there is much ill fortune and little good — that need not be said.於今來在金兜山，金兜洞，有一兕怪，把唐僧拿在洞裡，不知是要蒸，要煮，要晒。Now, at Jindou Mountain, in Jindou Cave, there is an ox-demon who has seized the Tang Monk and taken him into the cave, and I know not whether he means to steam him, boil him, or dry him in the sun.是老孫尋上他門，與他交戰，那怪卻就有些認得老孫，卓是神通廣大，把老孫的金箍棒搶去，因此難縛妖魔。I, old Sun, went to his door and fought a battle with him, but that fiend seemed somehow to recognize old Sun, and being truly of vast magic power, he snatched away old Sun's gold-banded cudgel, so that it is now hard to bind this demon.疑是上天兇星，思凡下界，為此老孫特來啟奏。I suspect he is some baleful star from Heaven who longed for the mortal world and descended below, and it is for this that old Sun has specially come to report to you.伏乞天尊垂慈洞鑒，降旨查勘兇星，發兵收剿妖魔，老孫不勝戰慄屏營之至。」卻又打個深躬道：「以聞。」傍有葛仙翁笑道：「猴子是何前倨後恭？」行者道：「不敢，不敢。I humbly beg Your Heavenly Majesty to show compassion and look clearly into the matter, to issue an edict investigating the baleful star, and to dispatch troops to capture and destroy the demon — old Sun cannot contain his trembling and fear as he awaits your command." And with that he bowed deeply again, saying, "This is my report." Beside him, the Immortal Ge laughed and said, "Why is this monkey so haughty before and so humble now?" Xingzhe said, "By no means, by no means.不是甚前倨後恭，老孫於今是沒棒弄了。」It is not a matter of haughty before and humble now — it is only that old Sun now has no cudgel to wield."

当时四天师传奏灵霄，引见玉陛。行者朝上唱个大喏道：「老官儿，累你，累你。我老孙保护唐僧往西天取经，一路凶多吉少，也不消说。于今来在金兜山，金兜洞，有一兕怪，把唐僧拿在洞里，不知是要蒸，要煮，要晒。是老孙寻上他门，与他交战，那怪却就有些认得老孙，卓是神通广大，把老孙的金箍棒抢去，因此难缚妖魔。疑是上天凶星，思凡下界，为此老孙特来启奏。伏乞天尊垂慈洞鉴，降旨查勘凶星，发兵收剿妖魔，老孙不胜战栗屏营之至。」却又打个深躬道：「以闻。」傍有葛仙翁笑道：「猴子是何前倨后恭？」行者道：「不敢，不敢。不是甚前倨后恭，老孙于今是没棒弄了。」

彼時玉皇天尊聞奏，即忙降旨可韓司知道：「既如悟空所奏，可隨查諸天星斗、各宿神王，有無思凡下界，隨即覆奏施行，以聞。」可韓丈人真君領旨，當時即同大聖去查。At that time, when the Jade Emperor, the Heavenly Honored One, heard the report, he at once issued an edict to the Ke Han Office, saying: "Since it is as Wukong has reported, you are to investigate at once all the stars and constellations of the Heavens and the spirit-kings of the various lodges, to see whether any has longed for the mortal world and descended below, and then report back at once for action to be taken, as an account of this." The Elder Perfected Lord Ke Han received the edict, and at once went together with the Great Sage to conduct the investigation.先查了四天門門上神王官吏。First they investigated the spirit-kings and officials at the gates of the Four Heavenly Gates.次查了三微垣垣中大小群真。Next they investigated the great and small host of Perfected Ones within the Three Enclosures.又查了雷霆官將陶、張、辛、鄧，苟、畢、龐、劉。Then they investigated the Thunder Officials and Generals — Tao, Zhang, Xin, Deng, Gou, Bi, Pang, and Liu.最後才查三十三天，天天自在。Last of all they investigated the Thirty-Three Heavens, and each Heaven was at ease.又查二十八宿：東七宿：角、亢、氐、房、參、尾、箕；They also investigated the Twenty-Eight Lodges: the Seven Eastern Lodges — Horn, Neck, Root, Room, Heart, Tail, and Winnower;西七宿：斗、牛、女、虛、危、室、壁；the Seven Western Lodges — Dipper, Ox, Girl, Emptiness, Rooftop, Encampment, and Wall;南七宿、北七宿：宿宿安寧。and the Seven Southern Lodges and Seven Northern Lodges: every lodge was at peace.又查了太陽、太陰、水、火、木、金、土七政；They also investigated the seven Governors — the Sun, the Moon, Water, Fire, Wood, Metal, and Earth;羅睺、計都、炁孛四餘。and the four Excess Stars — Rahu, Ketu, Bopo, and Ziqi.滿天星斗，並無思凡下界。Throughout the whole sky, star by star, not one had longed for the mortal world and descended below.行者道：「既是如此，我老孫也不消上那靈霄寶殿。Xingzhe said, "Since this is so, old Sun need not go up to the Hall of Miraculous Mist after all.打攪玉皇大帝，深為不便。To disturb the Jade Emperor further would be most inconvenient.你自回旨去罷，我只在此等你回話便了。」那可韓丈人真君依命。You may go back yourself and report; I will simply wait here for your reply." The Elder Perfected Lord Ke Han complied with this request.孫行者等候良久，作詩紀興曰：Sun Xingzhe waited a long while, and composed a poem to record the occasion, which said:

彼时玉皇天尊闻奏，即忙降旨可韩司知道：「既如悟空所奏，可随查诸天星斗、各宿神王，有无思凡下界，随即覆奏施行，以闻。」可韩丈人真君领旨，当时即同大圣去查。先查了四天门门上神王官吏。次查了三微垣垣中大小群真。又查了雷霆官将陶、张、辛、邓，苟、毕、庞、刘。最后才查三十三天，天天自在。又查二十八宿：东七宿：角、亢、氐、房、参、尾、箕；西七宿：斗、牛、女、虚、危、室、壁；南七宿、北七宿：宿宿安宁。又查了太阳、太阴、水、火、木、金、土七政；罗睺、计都、炁孛四余。满天星斗，并无思凡下界。行者道：「既是如此，我老孙也不消上那灵霄宝殿。打搅玉皇大帝，深为不便。你自回旨去罢，我只在此等你回话便了。」那可韩丈人真君依命。孙行者等候良久，作诗纪兴曰：

那可韓司丈人真君歷歷查勘，回奏玉帝道：「滿天星宿不少，各方神將皆存，並無思凡下界者。」玉帝聞奏：「著孫悟空挑選幾員天將，下界擒魔去也。」The Perfected Lord Ke Han investigated everything thoroughly, and returned to report to the Jade Emperor, saying, "There is no lack of stars filling the sky, and every divine general in every quarter is accounted for — none has longed for the mortal world and descended below." On hearing this report, the Jade Emperor said, "Let Sun Wukong choose several Heavenly generals to go down to the mortal world and capture the demon."

那可韩司丈人真君历历查勘，回奏玉帝道：「满天星宿不少，各方神将皆存，并无思凡下界者。」玉帝闻奏：「著孙悟空挑选几员天将，下界擒魔去也。」

四大天師奉旨意，即出靈霄寶殿，對行者道：「大聖啊，玉帝寬恩，言天宮無神思凡，著你挑選幾員天將，擒魔去哩。」行者低頭暗想道：「天上將不如老孫者多，勝似老孫者少。The Four Great Heavenly Masters, obeying the imperial edict, at once came out of the Hall of Miraculous Mist and said to Xingzhe, "Great Sage, the Jade Emperor in his boundless mercy declares that no spirit of the Heavenly Palace has longed for the mortal world, and bids you choose several Heavenly generals to go capture the demon." Xingzhe lowered his head and thought to himself secretly: "Among the Heavenly generals, more are inferior to old Sun than superior to him.想我鬧天宮時，玉帝遣十萬天兵，佈天羅地網，更不曾有一將敢與我比手。I recall that when I wrought havoc in Heaven, the Jade Emperor sent a hundred thousand Heavenly soldiers and set up nets of Heaven and snares of Earth, yet not one general dared match hands with me.向後來，調了小聖二郎，方是我的對手。It was only afterward, when the Little Sage Erlang was summoned, that he proved a match for me.如今那怪物手段又強似老孫，卻怎麼得能夠取勝？」許旌陽道：「此一時，彼一時，大不同也。Now this demon's skill is even greater than old Sun's — how then can I manage to win?" Xu Jingyang said, "That was one time, this is another — they are quite different things.常言道：『一物降一物』哩。As the common saying goes, 'One thing subdues another.'你好違了旨意？How could you dare defy the imperial edict?但憑高見，選用天將，勿得遲疑誤事。」行者道：「既然如此，深感上恩，果是不好違旨；Simply rely on your own good judgment in choosing the Heavenly generals to employ, and do not delay and spoil the matter." Xingzhe said, "Since it is so, I am deeply grateful for the imperial favor, and indeed it would not do to defy the edict;一則老孫又不可空走這遭。and besides, old Sun ought not to make this trip for nothing.煩旌陽轉奏玉帝，只教托塔李天王與哪吒太子去罷，他還有幾件降妖兵器，且下界與那怪見一仗，以看如何。I trouble you, Jingyang, to relay to the Jade Emperor a request that he simply send the Pagoda-Bearing Heavenly King Li and Prince Nezha — he still has several demon-subduing weapons — to go down to the mortal world and give battle to that demon, to see how it goes.果若能擒得他，是老孫之幸；If indeed they can capture him, it will be old Sun's good fortune;若不能，那時再作區處。」if not, then we shall find some other course of action at that time."

四大天师奉旨意，即出灵霄宝殿，对行者道：「大圣啊，玉帝宽恩，言天宫无神思凡，著你挑选几员天将，擒魔去哩。」行者低头暗想道：「天上将不如老孙者多，胜似老孙者少。想我闹天宫时，玉帝遣十万天兵，布天罗地网，更不曾有一将敢与我比手。向后来，调了小圣二郎，方是我的对手。如今那怪物手段又强似老孙，却怎么得能够取胜？」许旌阳道：「此一时，彼一时，大不同也。常言道：『一物降一物』哩。你好违了旨意？但凭高见，选用天将，勿得迟疑误事。」行者道：「既然如此，深感上恩，果是不好违旨；一则老孙又不可空走这遭。烦旌阳转奏玉帝，只教托塔李天王与哪咤太子去罢，他还有几件降妖兵器，且下界与那怪见一仗，以看如何。果若能擒得他，是老孙之幸；若不能，那时再作区处。」

真個那天師啟奏了玉帝，玉帝即令李天王父子率領眾部天兵，與行者助力。Sure enough, the Heavenly Master reported this to the Jade Emperor, and the Jade Emperor at once ordered Heavenly King Li and his son to lead their host of Heavenly soldiers to aid Xingzhe.那天王即奉旨來會行者。The Heavenly King at once received the edict and came to meet Xingzhe.行者又對天師道：「蒙玉帝遣差天王，謝謝不盡。Xingzhe also said to the Heavenly Master, "I am deeply grateful, beyond words, that the Jade Emperor has sent the Heavenly King.還有一事，再煩轉達：但得兩個雷公使用，等天王戰鬥之時，教雷公在雲端裡下個雷㨝，照頂門上錠死那妖魔，深為良計也。」天師笑道：「好好好。」天師又奏玉帝，傳旨教九天府下點鄧化、張蕃二雷公，與天王合力縛妖救難。There is one more matter I must trouble you to convey: if I could but have the use of two Thunder Gods, so that while the Heavenly King is fighting, the Thunder Gods might loose a thunderbolt from the clouds down upon the crown of that demon's head to strike him dead, it would be an excellent plan indeed." The Heavenly Master laughed and said, "Good, good, good." The Heavenly Master again reported to the Jade Emperor, who issued an edict ordering the Ninth Heaven Office to dispatch the two Thunder Gods Deng Hua and Zhang Fan, to join forces with the Heavenly King in binding the demon and rescuing the one in distress.遂與天王、孫大聖徑下南天門外。Thereupon, together with the Heavenly King and the Great Sage Sun, they went straight down out of the Southern Heavenly Gate.

真个那天师启奏了玉帝，玉帝即令李天王父子率领众部天兵，与行者助力。那天王即奉旨来会行者。行者又对天师道：「蒙玉帝遣差天王，谢谢不尽。还有一事，再烦转达：但得两个雷公使用，等天王战斗之时，教雷公在云端里下个雷㨝，照顶门上锭死那妖魔，深为良计也。」天师笑道：「好好好。」天师又奏玉帝，传旨教九天府下点邓化、张蕃二雷公，与天王合力缚妖救难。遂与天王、孙大圣径下南天门外。

頃刻而到。In a moment they arrived.行者道：「此山便是金兜山。Xingzhe said, "This mountain is Jindou Mountain.山中間乃是金兜洞。In the middle of the mountain is Jindou Cave.列位商議，卻教那個先去索戰？」天王停下雲頭，扎住天兵在於山南坡下道：「大聖素知小兒哪吒，曾降九十六洞妖魔，善能變化，隨身有降妖兵器，須教他先去出陣。」行者道：「既如此，等老孫引太子去來。」Let us all discuss, then — who shall go first to challenge him to battle?" The Heavenly King halted his cloud and stationed the Heavenly soldiers on the southern slope of the mountain, saying, "The Great Sage well knows that my son Nezha once subdued the demons of ninety-six caves; he is skilled in transformation, and carries demon-subduing weapons on his person — let him go out first to give battle." Xingzhe said, "Since it is so, let old Sun lead the prince there."

顷刻而到。行者道：「此山便是金兜山。山中间乃是金兜洞。列位商议，却教那个先去索战？」天王停下云头，扎住天兵在于山南坡下道：「大圣素知小儿哪咤，曾降九十六洞妖魔，善能变化，随身有降妖兵器，须教他先去出阵。」行者道：「既如此，等老孙引太子去来。」

那太子抖擻雄威，與大聖跳在高山，徑至洞口，但見那洞門緊閉，崖下無精。The prince, rousing his heroic might, leapt up the high mountain together with the Great Sage, and went straight to the mouth of the cave, where they saw the cave gate tightly shut, with no demon spirits below the cliff.行者上前高叫：「潑魔！Xingzhe stepped forward and called out loudly, "Vile fiend!快開門，還我師父來也。」那洞裡把門的小妖看見，急報道：「大王，孫行者領著一個小童男，在門前叫戰哩。」那魔王道：「這猴子鐵棒被我奪了，空手難爭，想是請得救兵來也。」叫：「取兵器。」魔王綽槍在手，走到門外觀看，那小童男生得相貌清奇，十分精壯。Open the gate at once and give me back my master!" The little demons guarding the gate inside the cave saw this and hastily reported, "Great King, Sun Xingzhe has come, leading a young lad, calling for battle before the gate." The demon king said, "That monkey's iron cudgel has been taken by me — he cannot fight bare-handed; he must have gone to fetch reinforcements." He called out, "Bring my weapon." The demon king took up his spear in hand and walked outside to look, and saw that the young lad was of striking and unusual appearance, exceedingly vigorous and strong.真個是：Truly it was thus:

那太子抖擞雄威，与大圣跳在高山，径至洞口，但见那洞门紧闭，崖下无精。行者上前高叫：「泼魔！快开门，还我师父来也。」那洞里把门的小妖看见，急报道：「大王，孙行者领著一个小童男，在门前叫战哩。」那魔王道：「这猴子铁棒被我夺了，空手难争，想是请得救兵来也。」叫：「取兵器。」魔王绰枪在手，走到门外观看，那小童男生得相貌清奇，十分精壮。真个是：

魔王笑道：「你是李天王第三個孩兒，名喚做哪吒太子，卻如何到我這門前呼喝？」太子道：「因你這潑魔作亂，困害東土聖僧，奉玉帝金旨，特來拿你。」魔王大怒道：「你想是孫悟空請來的。The demon king laughed and said, "You must be the third son of Heavenly King Li, named Prince Nezha — why then do you come shouting before my gate?" The prince said, "Because you, vile fiend, have wrought havoc and imprisoned the holy monk of the Tang court, I come by the golden edict of the Jade Emperor especially to capture you." The demon king, greatly enraged, said, "You must have been sent for by Sun Wukong.我就是那聖僧的魔頭哩。I am indeed the demon-head troubling that holy monk.量你這小兒曹有何武藝，敢出朗言？How could a mere child like you have any martial skill, that you dare speak such bold words?不要走，吃吾一槍。」Do not run — taste my spear!"

魔王笑道：「你是李天王第三个孩儿，名唤做哪咤太子，却如何到我这门前呼喝？」太子道：「因你这泼魔作乱，困害东土圣僧，奉玉帝金旨，特来拿你。」魔王大怒道：「你想是孙悟空请来的。我就是那圣僧的魔头哩。量你这小儿曹有何武艺，敢出朗言？不要走，吃吾一枪。」

這太子使斬妖劍，劈手相迎。The prince wielded his demon-slaying sword and met the blow head-on.他兩個搭上手，卻才賭鬥，那大聖急轉山坡，叫：「雷公何在？The two of them crossed hands and had just begun their contest when the Great Sage hastily turned to the mountain slope and called out, "Thunder Gods, where are you?快早去，著妖魔下個雷㨝，助太子降伏來也。」鄧、張二公即踏雲光，正欲下手，只見那太子使出法來，將身一變，變作三頭六臂，手持六般兵器，望妖魔砍來；Go quickly now, and loose a thunderbolt upon the demon, to help the prince subdue him." The two lords Deng and Zhang at once trod upon their cloud-light and were about to strike, when they saw the prince employ his magic art, transforming his body into three heads and six arms, holding six kinds of weapons in his hands, and hacking at the demon;那魔王也變作三頭六臂，三柄長槍抵住。the demon king likewise transformed into three heads and six arms, and with three long spears held him off.這太子又弄出降妖法力，將六般兵器拋將起去。The prince then again brought forth his demon-subduing magic power, and cast his six weapons up into the air;是那六般兵器？and what were these six weapons?卻是砍妖劍、斬妖刀、縛妖索、降魔杵、繡球、火輪兒。They were the demon-hacking sword, the demon-slaying blade, the demon-binding rope, the demon-subduing pestle, the embroidered ball, and the fire wheel.大叫一聲：「變！」一變十，十變百，百變千，千變萬，都是一般兵器，如驟雨冰雹，紛紛密密，望妖魔打將去。He gave a great shout, "Change!" — and one became ten, ten became a hundred, a hundred became a thousand, a thousand became ten thousand, all the same kind of weapon, and like a sudden shower of hail, thick and fast, they rained down upon the demon.那魔王公然不懼，一隻手取出那白森森的圈子來，望空拋起，叫聲：「著！」唿喇的一下，把六般兵器套將下來。The demon king showed not the least fear, and with one hand drew out that gleaming white ring, tossed it up into the empty air, and shouted, "Catch!" — with a whooshing sound, it swept down and gathered up all six kinds of weapons.慌得那哪吒太子赤手逃生。The prince Nezha, terrified, fled empty-handed to save his life.魔王得勝而回。The demon king returned to his cave in triumph.

这太子使斩妖剑，劈手相迎。他两个搭上手，却才赌斗，那大圣急转山坡，叫：「雷公何在？快早去，著妖魔下个雷㨝，助太子降伏来也。」邓、张二公即踏云光，正欲下手，只见那太子使出法来，将身一变，变作三头六臂，手持六般兵器，望妖魔砍来；那魔王也变作三头六臂，三柄长枪抵住。这太子又弄出降妖法力，将六般兵器抛将起去。是那六般兵器？却是砍妖剑、斩妖刀、缚妖索、降魔杵、绣球、火轮儿。大叫一声：「变！」一变十，十变百，百变千，千变万，都是一般兵器，如骤雨冰雹，纷纷密密，望妖魔打将去。那魔王公然不惧，一只手取出那白森森的圈子来，望空抛起，叫声：「著！」唿喇的一下，把六般兵器套将下来。慌得那哪咤太子赤手逃生。魔王得胜而回。

鄧、張二雷公在空中暗笑道：「早是我先看頭勢，不曾放了雷㨝。The two Thunder Gods Deng and Zhang, up in the air, laughed to themselves in secret, saying, "Good thing we saw how things stood beforehand and did not yet loose our thunderbolt.假若被他套將去，卻怎麼回見天尊？」二公按落雲頭，與太子來山南坡下，對李天王道：「妖魔果神通廣大。」悟空在傍笑道：「那廝神通也只如此，爭奈那個圈子利害。Had it been swept away too, how could we ever go back to face the Heavenly Honored One?" The two of them brought their clouds down and went with the prince to the southern slope of the mountain, and said to Heavenly King Li, "That demon truly has vast magic powers." Wukong, standing by, laughed and said, "That fellow's magic powers are only so-so, but it is that ring of his that is truly formidable.不知是甚麼寶貝，丟起來善套諸物。」哪吒恨道：「這大聖甚不成人。I know not what sort of treasure it is, that whenever it is cast it can capture anything so easily." Nezha said resentfully, "This Great Sage behaves quite improperly.我等折兵敗陣，十分煩惱，都只為你，你反喜笑何也？」行者道：「你說煩惱，終然我老孫不煩惱？We have lost our troops and been defeated in battle, and are exceedingly vexed, all on your account — yet you instead laugh with delight. Why is that?" Xingzhe said, "You speak of vexation — do you think old Sun is not vexed as well?我如今沒計奈何，哭不得，所以只得笑也。」I have no plan left to me now; I cannot weep, and so I can only laugh."

邓、张二雷公在空中暗笑道：「早是我先看头势，不曾放了雷㨝。假若被他套将去，却怎么回见天尊？」二公按落云头，与太子来山南坡下，对李天王道：「妖魔果神通广大。」悟空在傍笑道：「那厮神通也只如此，争奈那个圈子利害。不知是甚么宝贝，丢起来善套诸物。」哪咤恨道：「这大圣甚不成人。我等折兵败阵，十分烦恼，都只为你，你反喜笑何也？」行者道：「你说烦恼，终然我老孙不烦恼？我如今没计奈何，哭不得，所以只得笑也。」

天王道：「似此怎生結果？」行者道：「憑你等再怎計較；The Heavenly King said, "At this rate, how will things ever be resolved?" Xingzhe said, "However you all wish to deliberate further;只是圈子套不去的，就可拿住他了。」天王道：「套不去者，惟水火最利。only, whatever the ring cannot sweep up and capture — with that, he could be caught." The Heavenly King said, "Of the things the ring cannot capture, water and fire are surely the most potent.常言道：『水火無情。』」行者聞言道：「說得有理。As the common saying goes, 'Water and fire show no mercy.'" On hearing this, Xingzhe said, "Well said, and reasonable.你且穩坐在此，待老孫再上天走走來。」鄧、張二公道：「又去做甚的？」行者道：「老孫這去，不消啟奏玉帝，只到南天門裡，上彤華宮，請熒惑火德星君來此放火，燒那怪物一場，或者連那圈子燒做灰燼，捉住妖魔。You had best sit here calmly for now, while old Sun goes up to Heaven once more to take a walk." The two lords Deng and Zhang said, "What are you going for this time?" Xingzhe said, "On this trip of mine, there is no need to report to the Jade Emperor — I need only go to the Southern Heavenly Gate, up to the Tonghua Palace, and invite the Fire-Virtue Star Lord Yinghuo to come here and set a fire, to burn that monster thoroughly, and perhaps even burn that ring itself to ashes, so that the demon may be caught.一則取兵器還汝等歸天，二則可解脫吾師之難。」太子聞言甚喜道：「不必遲疑，請大聖早去早來，我等只在此拱候。」First, to recover the weapons and return them to you all for your journey back to Heaven; second, to free my master from his ordeal." On hearing this, the prince was greatly pleased and said, "There is no need for delay — I beg the Great Sage to go quickly and return quickly; we will simply wait here with folded hands."

天王道：「似此怎生结果？」行者道：「凭你等再怎计较；只是圈子套不去的，就可拿住他了。」天王道：「套不去者，惟水火最利。常言道：『水火无情。』」行者闻言道：「说得有理。你且稳坐在此，待老孙再上天走走来。」邓、张二公道：「又去做甚的？」行者道：「老孙这去，不消启奏玉帝，只到南天门里，上彤华宫，请荧惑火德星君来此放火，烧那怪物一场，或者连那圈子烧做灰烬，捉住妖魔。一则取兵器还汝等归天，二则可解脱吾师之难。」太子闻言甚喜道：「不必迟疑，请大圣早去早来，我等只在此拱候。」

行者縱起祥光，又至南天門外。The Great Sage rose upon his somersault cloud and again went to the outside of the Southern Heavenly Gate.那廣目與四將迎道：「大聖如何又來？」行者道：「李天王著太子出師，只一陣，被那魔王把六件兵器撈了去了。There Wide-Eyes and the four generals came to meet him, saying, "Great Sage, why have you come again?" Xingzhe said, "Heavenly King Li sent the prince to give battle, but in a single engagement, the demon king swept away all six of his weapons with his ring.我如今要到彤華宮請火德星君助陣哩。」四將不敢久留，讓他進去。Now I must go to the Tonghua Palace to invite the Fire-Virtue Star Lord to aid in the battle." The four generals dared not detain him long, and let him pass through.至彤華宮，只見那火部眾神，即入報道：「孫悟空欲見主公。」那南方三炁火德星君整衣出門迎進道：「昨日可韓司查點小宮，更無一人思凡。」行者道：「已知。On reaching the Tonghua Palace, the host of Fire spirits there at once went in to report, saying, "Sun Wukong wishes to see the Lord." The Fire-Virtue Star Lord of the Three Vital Breaths of the South straightened his robes and came out to greet him, ushering him in, and said, "Yesterday the Ke Han Office investigated my small palace, and found not a single one who had longed for the mortal world." Xingzhe said, "I already know this.但李天王與太子敗陣，失了兵器，特來請你救援救援。」星君道：「那哪吒乃三壇海會大神，他出身時，曾降九十六洞妖魔，神通廣大，若他不能，小神又怎敢望也？」行者道：「因與李天王計議，天地間至利者，惟水火也。But Heavenly King Li and the prince have been defeated in battle and lost their weapons, and I have come specially to beg you to give aid." The Star Lord said, "That Nezha is the Great Spirit of the Three Altars and Sea Assemblies; when he first came into being, he subdued the demons of ninety-six caves, and his magic powers are vast — if even he could not prevail, how could this small spirit dare to hope for success?" Xingzhe said, "Because I discussed this with Heavenly King Li, and concluded that of all things between Heaven and Earth, the most potent are water and fire.那怪物有一個圈子，善能套人的物件，不知是甚麼寶貝，故此說火能滅諸物，特請星君領火部到下方縱火燒那妖魔，救我師父一難。」That monster has a ring that is skilled at capturing things — I know not what treasure it is — and so we reasoned that fire could destroy anything, and have come especially to beg the Star Lord to lead the Fire host down to the mortal world to set a fire and burn that demon, to save my master from this ordeal."

行者纵起祥光，又至南天门外。那广目与四将迎道：「大圣如何又来？」行者道：「李天王著太子出师，只一阵，被那魔王把六件兵器捞了去了。我如今要到彤华宫请火德星君助阵哩。」四将不敢久留，让他进去。至彤华宫，只见那火部众神，即入报道：「孙悟空欲见主公。」那南方三炁火德星君整衣出门迎进道：「昨日可韩司查点小宫，更无一人思凡。」行者道：「已知。但李天王与太子败阵，失了兵器，特来请你救援救援。」星君道：「那哪咤乃三坛海会大神，他出身时，曾降九十六洞妖魔，神通广大，若他不能，小神又怎敢望也？」行者道：「因与李天王计议，天地间至利者，惟水火也。那怪物有一个圈子，善能套人的物件，不知是甚么宝贝，故此说火能灭诸物，特请星君领火部到下方纵火烧那妖魔，救我师父一难。」

火德星君聞言，即點本部神兵，同行者到金兜山南坡下，與天王、雷公等相見了。On hearing this, the Fire-Virtue Star Lord at once mustered the spirit-soldiers of his own department, and went together with Xingzhe to the southern slope of Jindou Mountain, where he met with the Heavenly King, the Thunder Gods, and the others.天王道：「孫大聖，你還去叫那廝出來，等我與他交戰，待他拿動圈子，我卻閃過，教火德帥眾燒他。」行者笑道：「正是，我和你去來。」火德共太子、鄧、張二公立於高峰之上，與他眺戰。The Heavenly King said, "Great Sage Sun, go once more and call that fellow out, and let me do battle with him; when he moves to use his ring, I will dodge aside, and let the Fire-Virtue commander lead his host to burn him." Xingzhe laughed and said, "Just so — let us go together." The Fire-Virtue Star Lord, together with the prince and the two lords Deng and Zhang, stood upon the high peak to watch the battle from afar.

火德星君闻言，即点本部神兵，同行者到金兜山南坡下，与天王、雷公等相见了。天王道：「孙大圣，你还去叫那厮出来，等我与他交战，待他拿动圈子，我却闪过，教火德帅众烧他。」行者笑道：「正是，我和你去来。」火德共太子、邓、张二公立于高峰之上，与他眺战。

這大聖到了金兜洞口，叫聲：「開門！The Great Sage reached the mouth of Jindou Cave and called out, "Open the gate!快早還我師父。」那小怪又急通報道：「孫悟空又來了。」那魔帥眾出洞，見了行者道：「你這潑猴，又請了甚麼兵來耶？」這壁廂轉上托塔天王喝道：「潑魔頭！Quickly give me back my master." The little demon again hastily reported, "Sun Wukong has come again." The demon commander led his host out of the cave, and seeing Xingzhe, said, "You wretched ape, what troops have you gone and fetched this time?" At this, the Pagoda-Bearing Heavenly King stepped forward and shouted, "Vile demon-head!認得我麼？」魔王笑道：「李天王，想是要與你令郎報仇，欲討兵器麼？」天王道：「一則報仇要兵器，二來是拿你救唐僧。Do you recognize me?" The demon king laughed and said, "Heavenly King Li, I suppose you wish to avenge your son and reclaim his weapons?" The Heavenly King said, "First, to avenge him and recover the weapons; second, to capture you and rescue the Tang Monk.不要走，吃吾一刀。」那怪物側身躲過，挺長槍，隨手相迎。Do not run — taste my blade!" The monster turned aside to dodge, and thrusting out his long spear, met the blow with his own hand.他兩個在洞前這場好殺。The two of them fought a fine and fierce battle before the cave.你看那：Behold how:

这大圣到了金兜洞口，叫声：「开门！快早还我师父。」那小怪又急通报道：「孙悟空又来了。」那魔帅众出洞，见了行者道：「你这泼猴，又请了甚么兵来耶？」这壁厢转上托塔天王喝道：「泼魔头！认得我么？」魔王笑道：「李天王，想是要与你令郎报仇，欲讨兵器么？」天王道：「一则报仇要兵器，二来是拿你救唐僧。不要走，吃吾一刀。」那怪物侧身躲过，挺长枪，随手相迎。他两个在洞前这场好杀。你看那：

那孫大聖見他兩個交戰，即轉身跳上高峰，對火德星君道：「三炁用心者。」你看那個妖魔與天王正鬥到好處，卻又取出圈子來。Seeing the two of them locked in battle, the Great Sage Sun at once turned and leapt up to the high peak, and said to the Fire-Virtue Star Lord, "Now is the time for the Three Vital Breaths to be used with care." Just as that demon and the Heavenly King were fighting at their fiercest, the demon once again drew out his ring.天王看見，即撥祥光，敗陣而走。Seeing this, the Heavenly King at once wheeled his auspicious light about and fled the field in defeat.這高峰上火德星君忙傳號令，教眾部火神一齊放火。There on the high peak, the Fire-Virtue Star Lord hastily gave the signal, ordering the host of Fire spirits to loose their flames all together.這一場真個利害，好火：This was truly a formidable scene — what a fire it was:

那孙大圣见他两个交战，即转身跳上高峰，对火德星君道：「三炁用心者。」你看那个妖魔与天王正斗到好处，却又取出圈子来。天王看见，即拨祥光，败阵而走。这高峰上火德星君忙传号令，教众部火神一齐放火。这一场真个利害，好火：

那妖魔見火來時，全無恐懼。When the demon saw the fire coming, he showed not the least fear.將圈子望空拋起，唿喇一聲，把這火龍、火馬、火鴉、火鼠、火槍、火刀、火弓、火箭，一圈子又套將下去，轉回本洞，得勝收兵。He tossed the ring up into the empty air, and with a whooshing sound, it swept down and captured the fire dragon, the fire horse, the fire crow, the fire rat, the fire spear, the fire blade, the fire bow, and the fire arrows, all in one sweep of the ring, then turned back to his own cave, having won the battle, and withdrew his troops.

那妖魔见火来时，全无恐惧。将圈子望空抛起，唿喇一声，把这火龙、火马、火鸦、火鼠、火枪、火刀、火弓、火箭，一圈子又套将下去，转回本洞，得胜收兵。

這火德星君手執著一桿空旗，招回眾將，會合天王等，坐於山南坡下，對行者道：「大聖啊，這個兇魔真是罕見。The Fire-Virtue Star Lord, holding an empty banner in his hand, called back his host of generals, and joined with the Heavenly King and the others, sitting down on the southern slope of the mountain, and said to Xingzhe, "Great Sage, ah, this fierce demon is truly a rare one.我今折了火具，怎生是好？」行者笑道：「不須報怨。Now I have lost my fire-implements too — what is to be done?" Xingzhe laughed and said, "There is no need for complaint.列位且請寬坐坐，老孫再去去來。」天王道：「你又往那裡去？」行者道：「那怪物既不怕火，斷然怕水。Gentlemen, please sit at ease for a while; old Sun will go once more and come back." The Heavenly King said, "Where are you off to this time?" Xingzhe said, "Since that monster does not fear fire, he must surely fear water.常言道：『水能剋火。』等老孫去北天門裡，請水德星君施佈水勢，往他洞裡一灌，把魔王渰死，取物件還你們。」天王道：「此計雖妙，但恐連你師父都淹死也。」行者道：「沒事。As the common saying goes, 'Water overcomes fire.' Let old Sun go to the Northern Heavenly Gate, to ask the Water-Virtue Star Lord to spread the power of water, and pour it into his cave, to drown the demon king, and recover the weapons to return them to you all." The Heavenly King said, "This plan is clever indeed, but I fear it may drown your master along with the demon." Xingzhe said, "No matter.渰死我師，我自有個法兒教他活來。Even if my master is drowned, I have my own way to bring him back to life.如今稽遲列位，甚是不當。」火德道：「既如此，且請行，請行。」To delay you all any longer now would be most improper." The Fire-Virtue Lord said, "Since it is so, please go, please go."

这火德星君手执著一杆空旗，招回众将，会合天王等，坐于山南坡下，对行者道：「大圣啊，这个凶魔真是罕见。我今折了火具，怎生是好？」行者笑道：「不须报怨。列位且请宽坐坐，老孙再去去来。」天王道：「你又往那里去？」行者道：「那怪物既不怕火，断然怕水。常言道：『水能克火。』等老孙去北天门里，请水德星君施布水势，往他洞里一灌，把魔王渰死，取物件还你们。」天王道：「此计虽妙，但恐连你师父都淹死也。」行者道：「没事。渰死我师，我自有个法儿教他活来。如今稽迟列位，甚是不当。」火德道：「既如此，且请行，请行。」

好大聖，又駕觔斗雲，徑到北天門外。The good Great Sage once again mounted his somersault cloud, and went straight to the outside of the Northern Heavenly Gate.忽擡頭，見多聞天王向前施禮道：「孫大聖何往？」行者道：「有一事要入烏浩宮見水德星君。Suddenly raising his head, he saw the Heavenly King Vaisravana come forward and greet him with courtesy, saying, "Where is the Great Sage bound?" Xingzhe said, "I have a matter and must go into the Wuhao Palace to see the Water-Virtue Star Lord.你在此作甚？」多聞道：「今日輪該巡視。」正說處，又見那龐、劉、苟、畢四大天將進禮邀茶。What are you doing here?" Vaisravana said, "Today it falls to my turn to patrol." Just as they were speaking, the four great Heavenly generals Pang, Liu, Gou, and Bi also came forward with courtesy, inviting him to tea.行者道：「不勞，不勞，我事急矣。」遂別卻門神，直至烏浩宮，著水部眾神即時通報。Xingzhe said, "No need, no need — my business is urgent." So he took leave of the gate-guardian gods, and went straight to the Wuhao Palace, where the host of Water spirits at once reported his arrival.眾神報道：「齊天大聖孫悟空來了。」水德星君聞言，即將查點四海、五湖、八河、四瀆、三江、九派並各處龍王俱遣退。The spirits reported, "The Great Sage Equal to Heaven, Sun Wukong, has come." On hearing this, the Water-Virtue Star Lord at once dismissed the Dragon Kings of the Four Seas, Five Lakes, Eight Rivers, Four Waterways, Three Rivers, and Nine Branches, whom he had been inspecting.整冠束帶，接出宮門，迎進宮內道：「昨日可韓司查勘小宮，恐有本部之神思凡作怪，正在此點查江海河瀆之神，尚未完也。」行者道：「那魔王不是江河之神，此乃廣大之精。He straightened his cap and belt, came out of the palace gate to receive him, and ushering him inside said, "Yesterday the Ke Han Office investigated my small palace, fearing there might be some spirit of my department who had longed for the mortal world and caused mischief, and I am at present still inspecting the spirits of the rivers, seas, and waterways — not yet finished." Xingzhe said, "That demon king is not a spirit of rivers or seas — this is a fiend of vast and formidable power.先蒙玉帝差李天王父子並兩個雷公下界擒拿，被他弄個圈子，將六件神兵套去。Earlier, by the Jade Emperor's command, Heavenly King Li and his son, together with two Thunder Gods, were sent down to capture him, but he used a ring to sweep away their six divine weapons.老孫無奈，又上彤華宮請火德星君帥火部眾神放火，又將火龍、火馬等物一圈子套去。Having no other recourse, old Sun then went up to the Tonghua Palace to beg the Fire-Virtue Star Lord to lead his host of Fire spirits to set a fire, but he swept up the fire dragon, the fire horse, and the rest with his ring as well.我想此物既不怕火，必然怕水，特來告請星君施水勢，與我捉那妖精，取兵器歸還天將，吾師之難，亦可救也。」水德聞言，即令黃河水伯神王：「隨大聖去助功。」水伯自衣袖中取出一個白玉盂兒道：「我有此物盛水。」行者道：「看這盂兒能盛幾何？I reasoned that since this thing does not fear fire, it must surely fear water, and so I have come especially to beg the Star Lord to spread the power of water, to help me capture that fiend, recover the weapons and return them to the Heavenly generals, and thereby also save my master from his ordeal." On hearing this, the Water-Virtue Lord at once ordered the Yellow River Water Lord, the Spirit-King: "Go with the Great Sage to aid in this task." The Water Lord drew from his sleeve a white jade bowl, saying, "I have this vessel to hold water." Xingzhe said, "Just look at this bowl — how much can it possibly hold?妖魔如何渰得？」水伯道：「不瞞大聖說。How could the demon possibly be drowned with it?" The Water Lord said, "I will not hide it from the Great Sage.我這一盂乃是黃河之水，半盂就是半河，一盂就是一河。」行者喜道：「只消半盂足矣。」遂辭別水德，與黃河神躲離天闕。"This bowl of mine is water from the Yellow River — half a bowl is half the river, a full bowl is the whole river." Wukong said happily, "Half a bowl will be more than enough." Then he took his leave of the Water Lord and, together with the God of the Yellow River, departed from the Heavenly Gate.

好大圣，又驾觔斗云，径到北天门外。忽抬头，见多闻天王向前施礼道：「孙大圣何往？」行者道：「有一事要入乌浩宫见水德星君。你在此作甚？」多闻道：「今日轮该巡视。」正说处，又见那庞、刘、苟、毕四大天将进礼邀茶。行者道：「不劳，不劳，我事急矣。」遂别却门神，直至乌浩宫，著水部众神即时通报。众神报道：「齐天大圣孙悟空来了。」水德星君闻言，即将查点四海、五湖、八河、四渎、三江、九派并各处龙王俱遣退。整冠束带，接出宫门，迎进宫内道：「昨日可韩司查勘小宫，恐有本部之神思凡作怪，正在此点查江海河渎之神，尚未完也。」行者道：「那魔王不是江河之神，此乃广大之精。先蒙玉帝差李天王父子并两个雷公下界擒拿，被他弄个圈子，将六件神兵套去。老孙无奈，又上彤华宫请火德星君帅火部众神放火，又将火龙、火马等物一圈子套去。我想此物既不怕火，必然怕水，特来告请星君施水势，与我捉那妖精，取兵器归还天将，吾师之难，亦可救也。」水德闻言，即令黄河水伯神王：「随大圣去助功。」水伯自衣袖中取出一个白玉盂儿道：「我有此物盛水。」行者道：「看这盂儿能盛几何？妖魔如何渰得？」水伯道：「不瞒大圣说。我这一盂乃是黄河之水，半盂就是半河，一盂就是一河。」行者喜道：「只消半盂足矣。」遂辞别水德，与黄河神躲离天阙。

那水伯將盂兒望黃河舀了半盂，跟大聖至金兜山，向南坡下見了天王、太子、雷公、火德，具言前事。The Water Lord dipped the bowl into the Yellow River and scooped up half a bowl, then followed the Great Sage to Mount Jindou, where at the foot of the southern slope they met the Heavenly King, the Prince, the Duke of Thunder, and the Fire Virtue, and told them all that had happened.行者道：「不必細講，且教水伯跟我去。Wukong said, "No need to explain in detail — just let the Water Lord come with me.待我叫開他門，不要等他出來，就將水往門裡一倒，那怪物一窩子可都渰死。Wait until I call the door open — don't wait for him to come out — just pour the water straight in through the door, and that whole nest of monsters can be drowned at once.我卻去撈師父的屍首，再救活不遲。」Then I'll go and fish out my master's body, and it won't be too late to revive him afterward."

那水伯将盂儿望黄河舀了半盂，跟大圣至金兜山，向南坡下见了天王、太子、雷公、火德，具言前事。行者道：「不必细讲，且教水伯跟我去。待我叫开他门，不要等他出来，就将水往门里一倒，那怪物一窝子可都渰死。我却去捞师父的尸首，再救活不迟。」

那水伯依命，緊隨行者，轉山坡，徑至洞口，叫聲：「妖怪開門！」那把門的小妖，聽得是孫大聖的聲音，急又去報道：「孫悟空又來矣！」那魔聞說，帶了寶貝，綽槍就走，響一聲，開了石門。The Water Lord obeyed the order and followed close behind Wukong; they went around the mountain slope, straight to the mouth of the cave, and called out, "Demon, open the door!" The little imp guarding the gate heard that it was the voice of the Great Sage Sun and hurried in to report, "Sun Wukong has come again!" When the demon king heard this, he took up his treasure, seized his spear, and went out at once — with a bang, the stone door opened.這水伯將白玉盂向裡一傾。The Water Lord tipped the white jade bowl and poured it in.那妖見是水來，撒了長槍，即忙取出圈子，撐住二門。When the demon saw the water coming, he dropped his long spear, hastily took out his ring, and used it to prop up the inner gate.只見那股水骨都都的只往外泛將出來。All that could be seen was that stream of water, gurgling and bubbling, surging back out again.慌得孫大聖急縱觔斗，與水伯跳在高峰。This startled Sun the Great Sage into a hasty somersault, and he and the Water Lord leaped up onto a high peak.那天王同眾都駕雲停於高峰之前，觀看那水，波濤泛漲，著實狂瀾，好水！The Heavenly King and the others all rode their clouds to a stop before the high peak, watching the water — the waves surging and swelling, truly a wild torrent. What water!真個是：Truly it was:

那水伯依命，紧随行者，转山坡，径至洞口，叫声：「妖怪开门！」那把门的小妖，听得是孙大圣的声音，急又去报道：「孙悟空又来矣！」那魔闻说，带了宝贝，绰枪就走，响一声，开了石门。这水伯将白玉盂向里一倾。那妖见是水来，撒了长枪，即忙取出圈子，撑住二门。只见那股水骨都都的只往外泛将出来。慌得孙大圣急纵觔斗，与水伯跳在高峰。那天王同众都驾云停于高峰之前，观看那水，波涛泛涨，著实狂澜，好水！真个是：

行者見了，心慌道：「不好啊！When Wukong saw this, his heart sank and he said, "This is bad!水漫四野，渰了民田，未曾灌在他的洞裡，曾奈之何？」喚水伯急忙收水。The water is flooding the fields all around, drowning the people's farmland, without ever having flowed into his cave — what's to be done about that?" He called on the Water Lord to hurry and take the water back.水伯道：「小神只會放水，卻不會收水。The Water Lord said, "This lowly god knows only how to release water, not how to take it back.常言道：『潑水難收。』」咦！As the saying goes, 'Water once spilled is hard to gather back.'" Ah!那座山卻也高峻，這場水只奔低流。That mountain was after all high and steep, and this flood of water could only rush toward the low ground.須臾間，四散而歸澗壑。In a moment, it scattered in all directions and returned to the gullies and ravines.

行者见了，心慌道：「不好啊！水漫四野，渰了民田，未曾灌在他的洞里，曾奈之何？」唤水伯急忙收水。水伯道：「小神只会放水，却不会收水。常言道：『泼水难收。』」咦！那座山却也高峻，这场水只奔低流。须臾间，四散而归涧壑。

又只見那洞外跳出幾個小妖，在外邊吆吆喝喝，伸拳邏袖，弄棒拈槍，依舊喜喜歡歡耍子。Then they saw several little imps leap out from the cave, shouting and calling outside, stretching their fists, rolling up their sleeves, wielding cudgels and toying with spears, still merrily playing about as before.天王道：「這水原來不曾灌入洞內，枉費一場之功也。」行者忍不住心中怒發，雙手掄拳，闖至妖魔門首，喝道：「那裡走！The Heavenly King said, "So the water never did flow into the cave after all — all that effort was wasted for nothing." Wukong could not hold back the anger rising in his heart; swinging both fists, he charged up to the demon's gate and shouted, "Where do you think you're going!看打！」諕得那幾個小妖丟了槍棒，跑入洞裡，戰兢兢的報道：「大王，不好了，打將來了！」那魔王挺長槍，迎出門前道：「這潑猴老大憊懶！Take this!" This so frightened the little imps that they threw down their spears and cudgels and ran into the cave, trembling as they reported, "Great King, it's bad — he's come to attack!" The demon king leveled his long spear and came out to meet him at the gate, saying, "This impudent monkey is utterly shameless!你幾番家敵不過我，縱水火亦不能近，怎麼又踵將來送命？」行者道：「這兒子反說了哩。Time and again you've been no match for me — not even water or fire could get near me — so why have you come again to throw your life away?" Wukong said, "This son of a bitch has it backwards.不知是我送命，是你送命？I don't know whether it's me throwing my life away, or you throwing yours.走過來，吃老外公一拳。」那妖魔笑道：「這猴兒強勉纏帳！Come over here and take a punch from your old grandfather!" The demon laughed and said, "This monkey is being stubborn and unreasonable!我倒使槍，他卻使拳。Here I am wielding a spear, while he's using his fists.那般一個筋䯞子拳頭，只好有個核桃兒大小，怎麼稱得個鎚子起也？A bony little fist like that, no bigger than a walnut — how could it possibly pass for a hammer?罷罷罷，我且把槍放下，與你走一路拳看看。」行者笑道：「說得是，走上來。」Ah well, forget it — I'll set my spear down and spar a round of fists with you instead." Wukong laughed and said, "Well said — come on then."

又只见那洞外跳出几个小妖，在外边吆吆喝喝，伸拳逻袖，弄棒拈枪，依旧喜喜欢欢耍子。天王道：「这水原来不曾灌入洞内，枉费一场之功也。」行者忍不住心中怒发，双手抡拳，闯至妖魔门首，喝道：「那里走！看打！」諕得那几个小妖丢了枪棒，跑入洞里，战兢兢的报道：「大王，不好了，打将来了！」那魔王挺长枪，迎出门前道：「这泼猴老大惫懒！你几番家敌不过我，纵水火亦不能近，怎么又踵将来送命？」行者道：「这儿子反说了哩。不知是我送命，是你送命？走过来，吃老外公一拳。」那妖魔笑道：「这猴儿强勉缠帐！我倒使枪，他却使拳。那般一个筋䯞子拳头，只好有个核桃儿大小，怎么称得个锤子起也？罢罢罢，我且把枪放下，与你走一路拳看看。」行者笑道：「说得是，走上来。」

那妖撩衣進步，丟了個架子，舉起兩個拳來，真似打油的鐵鎚模樣。The demon hitched up his robe, stepped forward, struck a stance, and raised both fists — truly looking like a pair of iron hammers for pressing oil.這大聖展足挪身，擺開解數，在那洞門前，與那魔王遞走拳勢。The Great Sage spread his feet, shifted his stance, and laid out his moves, exchanging blows with the demon king right there before the cave gate.這一場好打。What a fine fight this was!咦！Ah!

那妖撩衣进步，丢了个架子，举起两个拳来，真似打油的铁锤模样。这大圣展足挪身，摆开解数，在那洞门前，与那魔王递走拳势。这一场好打。咦！

他兩個在那洞門前廝打，只見這高峰頭喜得個李天王厲聲喝采，火德星鼓掌誇稱。As the two of them fought before the cave gate, up on the high peak, Heavenly King Li was so delighted he cheered loudly, and the Fire Virtue Star clapped his hands in praise.那兩個雷公與哪吒太子，帥眾神跳到跟前，都要來相助；The two Dukes of Thunder and Prince Nezha led the assembled gods leaping forward, all wanting to lend their help;這壁廂群妖搖旗擂鼓，舞劍掄刀一齊護。while on the other side, the horde of demons waved flags and beat drums, brandishing swords and wielding blades, all guarding their king together.孫大聖見事不諧，將毫毛拔下一把，望空撒起，叫：「變！」即變做三五十個小猴，一擁上前，把那妖纏住，抱腿的抱腿，扯腰的扯腰，抓眼的抓眼，撏毛的撏毛。Seeing the situation was not going well, Sun the Great Sage plucked out a handful of his down hairs, tossed them into the air, and shouted, "Change!" They at once turned into thirty or fifty little monkeys, who rushed forward in a swarm and entangled the demon — some hugging his legs, some grabbing his waist, some clawing at his eyes, some pulling out his fur.那怪物慌了，急把圈子拿將出來。The monster panicked and hastily brought out his ring.大聖與天王等見他弄出圈套，撥轉雲頭，走上高峰逃陣。When the Great Sage and the Heavenly King and the others saw him bring out his trap, they turned their clouds around and fled up to the high peak to escape the battle line.那妖把圈子往上拋起，唿喇的一聲，把那三五十個毫毛變的小猴，收為本相，套入洞中，得了勝，領兵閉門，賀喜而去。The demon threw the ring up into the air, and with a whooshing sound, it turned the thirty or fifty down-hair monkeys back into their true form and swept them into the cave. Having won the victory, he led his troops back in, shut the gate, and went off to celebrate.

他两个在那洞门前厮打，只见这高峰头喜得个李天王厉声喝采，火德星鼓掌夸称。那两个雷公与哪咤太子，帅众神跳到跟前，都要来相助；这壁厢群妖摇旗擂鼓，舞剑抡刀一齐护。孙大圣见事不谐，将毫毛拔下一把，望空撒起，叫：「变！」即变做三五十个小猴，一拥上前，把那妖缠住，抱腿的抱腿，扯腰的扯腰，抓眼的抓眼，挦毛的挦毛。那怪物慌了，急把圈子拿将出来。大圣与天王等见他弄出圈套，拨转云头，走上高峰逃阵。那妖把圈子往上抛起，唿喇的一声，把那三五十个毫毛变的小猴，收为本相，套入洞中，得了胜，领兵闭门，贺喜而去。

這太子道：「孫大聖還是個好漢。Then the Prince said, "Sun the Great Sage is quite the hero after all.這一路拳，走得似錦上添花；That round of boxing he performed was like adding embroidery to brocade;使分身法，正是人前顯貴。」行者笑道：「列位在此遠觀，那怪的本事，比老孫如何？」李天王道：「他拳鬆腳慢，不如大聖的緊疾。and his use of the body-dividing technique was truly a display of splendor before others." Wukong laughed and said, "Since you were all watching from afar, how does that monster's skill compare with old Monkey's?" Heavenly King Li said, "His fists were loose and his footwork slow, not nearly as swift and tight as the Great Sage's.他見我們去時，也就著忙；When he saw us moving in, he grew flustered too;又見你使出分身法來，他就急了。and when he saw you use the body-dividing technique, he grew desperate.所以大弄個圈套。」行者道：「魔王好治，只是套子難降。」火德與水伯道：「若還取勝，除非得了他那寶貝，然後可擒。」行者道：「他那寶貝如何可得？That's why he made such a great fuss with his trap." Wukong said, "The demon king himself would be easy enough to deal with — it's only that ring that's hard to overcome." The Fire Virtue and the Water Lord said, "If you're to win, you must first get hold of that treasure of his — only then can he be captured." Wukong said, "How could one possibly get that treasure of his?只除是偷去來。」鄧、張二公笑道：「若要行偷禮，除大聖再無能者。There's no way but to steal it." The two lords Deng and Zhang laughed and said, "If it comes to the art of thieving, there's no one abler than the Great Sage.想當年大鬧天宮時，偷御酒，偷蟠桃，偷龍肝、鳳髓及老君之丹，那是何等手段！Remember back when you wreaked havoc in Heaven, stealing the imperial wine, stealing the peaches of immortality, stealing dragon liver, phoenix marrow, and Laojun's elixir — what consummate skill that was!今日正該拿此處用也。」行者道：「好說，好說。Today is exactly the time to put that skill to use again." Wukong said, "Well said, well said.既如此，你們且坐，等老孫打聽去來。」Since that's so, all of you sit tight here and wait while old Monkey goes to scout things out."

这太子道：「孙大圣还是个好汉。这一路拳，走得似锦上添花；使分身法，正是人前显贵。」行者笑道：「列位在此远观，那怪的本事，比老孙如何？」李天王道：「他拳松脚慢，不如大圣的紧疾。他见我们去时，也就著忙；又见你使出分身法来，他就急了。所以大弄个圈套。」行者道：「魔王好治，只是套子难降。」火德与水伯道：「若还取胜，除非得了他那宝贝，然后可擒。」行者道：「他那宝贝如何可得？只除是偷去来。」邓、张二公笑道：「若要行偷礼，除大圣再无能者。想当年大闹天宫时，偷御酒，偷蟠桃，偷龙肝、凤髓及老君之丹，那是何等手段！今日正该拿此处用也。」行者道：「好说，好说。既如此，你们且坐，等老孙打听去来。」

好大聖，跳下峰頭，私至洞口，搖身一變，變做個麻蒼蠅兒，真個秀溜。What a Great Sage! He leapt down from the peak, slipped secretly to the mouth of the cave, gave himself a shake, and transformed into a little gray fly — truly sleek and nimble.你看他：Just look at him:

好大圣，跳下峰头，私至洞口，摇身一变，变做个麻苍蝇儿，真个秀溜。你看他：

輕輕的飛在門上，爬到門縫邊，鑽進去。He flew lightly onto the door, crawled to the crack of the door, and slipped inside.只見那大小群妖舞的舞，唱的唱，排列兩傍。There he saw the whole horde of demons, great and small, some dancing, some singing, arrayed in rows on either side.老魔王高坐臺上，面前擺著些蛇肉、鹿脯、熊掌、駝峰、山蔬果品。The old demon king sat high upon a dais, with snake meat, dried venison, bear's paw, camel's hump, mountain greens, and fruits laid out before him.有一把青磁酒壺，香噴噴的羊酪椰醪，大碗家寬懷暢飲。There was a celadon wine pot with fragrant goat's-milk cheese and coconut wine, and he was drinking freely and happily from great bowls.行者落於小妖叢裡，又變做一個獾頭精，慢慢的演近臺邊。Wukong landed among the crowd of little demons and changed again into a badger-headed spirit, slowly edging his way toward the dais.看夠多時，全不見寶貝放在何方。He watched for quite a long while, but nowhere did he see where the treasure had been placed.急抽身轉至臺後，又見那後廳上高吊著火龍吟嘯，火馬號嘶。He quickly slipped away and went around behind the dais, where he saw, hung high in the rear hall, a fire dragon crying out and a fire horse neighing.忽擡頭，見他的那金箍棒靠在東壁，喜得他心癢難撾，忘記了更容變像，走上前拿了鐵棒，現原身丟開解數，一路棒打將出去。Suddenly looking up, he saw his own gold-banded cudgel leaning against the east wall; overjoyed, his heart itched so he could hardly bear it, and forgetting to change his form again, he walked up and seized the iron rod, revealed his true form, and laid about with his stance, fighting his way straight out with the cudgel.慌得那群妖膽戰心驚，老魔王措手不及，卻被他推倒三個，放倒兩個，打開一條血路，徑自出了洞門。This so alarmed the horde of demons that their gall shook and their hearts trembled, and the old demon king was caught off guard; Wukong knocked down three, felled two more, beat open a bloody path, and went straight out through the cave gate.這才是：This was indeed:

轻轻的飞在门上，爬到门缝边，钻进去。只见那大小群妖舞的舞，唱的唱，排列两傍。老魔王高坐台上，面前摆著些蛇肉、鹿脯、熊掌、驼峰、山蔬果品。有一把青磁酒壶，香喷喷的羊酪椰醪，大碗家宽怀畅饮。行者落于小妖丛里，又变做一个獾头精，慢慢的演近台边。看够多时，全不见宝贝放在何方。急抽身转至台后，又见那后厅上高吊著火龙吟啸，火马号嘶。忽抬头，见他的那金箍棒靠在东壁，喜得他心痒难挝，忘记了更容变像，走上前拿了铁棒，现原身丢开解数，一路棒打将出去。慌得那群妖胆战心惊，老魔王措手不及，却被他推倒三个，放倒两个，打开一条血路，径自出了洞门。这才是：
