話說孫大聖得了金箍棒，打出門前，跳上高峰，對眾神滿心歡喜。The story goes that the Great Sage Sun, having recovered his gold-banded cudgel, fought his way out the cave door, leapt up to the high peak, and faced the assembled gods, his heart brimming with joy.李天王道：「你這場如何？」行者道：「老孫變化進他洞去，那怪物越發唱唱舞舞的吃得勝酒哩。Heavenly King Li said, "How did that bout go?" Wukong said, "Old Sun transformed himself and slipped into his cave, and that monster was singing and dancing all the more, drinking his victory wine."更不曾打聽得他的寶貝在那裡。"I still hadn't managed to learn where his treasure was kept."我轉他後面，忽聽得馬叫龍吟，知是火部之物。"When I went around behind him, I suddenly heard a horse neighing and a dragon crying, and knew these must belong to the Fire Department."東壁廂靠著我的金箍棒，是老孫拿在手中，一路打將出來也。」眾神道：「你的寶貝得了，我們的寶貝何時到手？」行者道：「不難，不難。"Against the east wall stood my gold-banded cudgel, and old Sun took it up in hand and fought my way straight out." The gods said, "You've got your treasure back—when will we get ours?" Wukong said, "No trouble, no trouble."我有了這根鐵棒，不管怎的，也要打倒他，取寶貝還你。」"Now that I have this iron rod, no matter what, I'll beat him down and get the treasures back for you."

话说孙大圣得了金箍棒，打出门前，跳上高峰，对众神满心欢喜。李天王道：「你这场如何？」行者道：「老孙变化进他洞去，那怪物越发唱唱舞舞的吃得胜酒哩。更不曾打听得他的宝贝在那里。我转他后面，忽听得马叫龙吟，知是火部之物。东壁厢靠著我的金箍棒，是老孙拿在手中，一路打将出来也。」众神道：「你的宝贝得了，我们的宝贝何时到手？」行者道：「不难，不难。我有了这根铁棒，不管怎的，也要打倒他，取宝贝还你。」

正講處，只聽得那山坡下鑼鼓齊鳴，喊聲振地。Just as they were speaking, they suddenly heard gongs and drums sounding together down the mountain slope, and shouts that shook the earth.原來是兕大王帥眾精靈來趕行者。It turned out to be the Rhinoceros King leading his host of spirits to chase after Wukong.行者見了，叫道：「好好好，正合吾意。When Wukong saw this, he cried, "Good, good, good—just what I wanted."列位請坐，待老孫再去捉他。」好大聖，舉鐵棒劈面迎來，喝道：「潑魔那裡走！"Gentlemen, please sit, while old Sun goes to catch him again." The splendid Great Sage raised his iron rod and came straight at him, shouting, "Where do you think you're going, you vile fiend!"看棍！」那怪使槍支住，罵道：「賊猴頭！"Take this rod!" The monster raised his spear to block it, cursing, "You thieving monkey-head!"著實無禮。"Utterly insolent!"你怎麼白晝劫吾物件？」行者道：「我把你這個不知死的孽畜！"How dare you rob my belongings in broad daylight?" Wukong said, "You wretched beast who doesn't know death is near!"你倒弄圈套白晝搶奪我物，那件兒是你的？"You're the one who set a trap and snatched my things in broad daylight—which of those was ever yours?"不要走，吃老爺一棍！」那怪物掄槍隔架。"Don't run—taste your grandfather's rod!" The monster swung his spear to parry.這一場好戰：What a fine battle this was:

正讲处，只听得那山坡下锣鼓齐鸣，喊声振地。原来是兕大王帅众精灵来赶行者。行者见了，叫道：「好好好，正合吾意。列位请坐，待老孙再去捉他。」好大圣，举铁棒劈面迎来，喝道：「泼魔那里走！看棍！」那怪使枪支住，骂道：「贼猴头！著实无礼。你怎么白昼劫吾物件？」行者道：「我把你这个不知死的孽畜！你倒弄圈套白昼抢夺我物，那件儿是你的？不要走，吃老爷一棍！」那怪物抡枪隔架。这一场好战：

那魔王與孫大聖戰經三個時辰，不分勝敗，早又見天色將晚。The demon king and the Great Sage Sun fought through three double-hours without either gaining the upper hand, and before long the sky began to darken toward evening.妖魔支著長槍道：「悟空，你住了。The demon, propping up his long spear, said, "Wukong, stop now."天昏地暗，不是個賭鬥之時，且各歇息歇息，明朝再與你比迸。」行者罵道：「潑畜休言！"The sky is dark and the earth dim—this is no time to fight it out. Let's each rest a while, and tomorrow morning I'll match strength with you again." Wukong cursed, "Enough of that, you filthy beast!"老孫的興頭才來，管甚麼天晚？"Old Sun's fighting spirit has just risen—what do I care if it's getting late?"是必與你定個輸贏。」那怪物喝一聲，虛幌一槍，逃了性命，帥群妖收轉干戈，入洞中將門緊緊閉了。"I must settle who wins and who loses with you today." The monster gave a shout, made a feint with his spear, and fled for his life, leading his host of demons to gather up their weapons and retreat into the cave, shutting the doors tight behind them.

那魔王与孙大圣战经三个时辰，不分胜败，早又见天色将晚。妖魔支著长枪道：「悟空，你住了。天昏地暗，不是个赌斗之时，且各歇息歇息，明朝再与你比迸。」行者骂道：「泼畜休言！老孙的兴头才来，管甚么天晚？是必与你定个输赢。」那怪物喝一声，虚幌一枪，逃了性命，帅群妖收转干戈，入洞中将门紧紧闭了。

這大聖拽棍方回，天神在岸頭賀喜，都道：「是有能有力的大齊天，無量無邊的真本事。」行者笑道：「承過獎，承過獎。」李天王近前道：「此言實非褒獎，真是一條好漢子。The Great Sage dragged his rod back only then, and the heavenly gods on the ridge congratulated him with joy, all saying, "What a mighty and capable Great Sage Equal to Heaven, with boundless, matchless true skill!" Wukong laughed, "You flatter me, you flatter me." Heavenly King Li came forward and said, "These words are truly no flattery—you really are a fine fellow."這一陣也不亞當時瞞地網罩天羅也。」行者道：「且休題夙話。"This battle just now was no less than the time you were caught under the heaven-and-earth nets." Wukong said, "Let's not bring up old stories now."那妖魔被老孫打了這一場，必然疲倦。"That demon, having been fought by old Sun through this whole bout, must certainly be worn out."我也說不得辛苦，你們都放懷坐坐，等我再進洞去打聽他的圈子，務要偷了他的，捉住那怪，尋取兵器，奉還汝等歸天。」太子道：「今已天晚，不若安眠一宿，明早去罷。」行者笑道：「這小郎不知世事，那見做賊的好白日裡下手？"I can't speak of hardship either—all of you just relax and sit a while, and let me go back into the cave again to find out about his ring; I must steal it from him, catch that fiend, recover the weapons, and return them to you all so you can go back to Heaven." The prince said, "It's already late now—wouldn't it be better to sleep soundly through the night and go at dawn?" Wukong laughed, "This young lad doesn't know the ways of the world—whoever heard of a thief working his trade in broad daylight?"似這等掏摸的，必須夜去夜來，不知不覺，才是買賣哩。」火德與雷公道：「三太子休言，這件事我們不知。"For this kind of pilfering, one must go by night and come back by night, without anyone noticing—that's how the business is done." The Fire God and the Duke of Thunder said, "Third Prince, say no more—this matter we simply don't understand."大聖是個慣家熟套，須教他趁此時候，一則魔頭困倦，二來夜黑無防，就請快去，快去。」"The Great Sage is an old hand at this trade—we should let him take advantage of this moment, first because the demon chief is tired out, and second because the night is dark and unguarded. Please, go quickly, go quickly."

这大圣拽棍方回，天神在岸头贺喜，都道：「是有能有力的大齐天，无量无边的真本事。」行者笑道：「承过奖，承过奖。」李天王近前道：「此言实非褒奖，真是一条好汉子。这一阵也不亚当时瞒地网罩天罗也。」行者道：「且休题夙话。那妖魔被老孙打了这一场，必然疲倦。我也说不得辛苦，你们都放怀坐坐，等我再进洞去打听他的圈子，务要偷了他的，捉住那怪，寻取兵器，奉还汝等归天。」太子道：「今已天晚，不若安眠一宿，明早去罢。」行者笑道：「这小郎不知世事，那见做贼的好白日里下手？似这等掏摸的，必须夜去夜来，不知不觉，才是买卖哩。」火德与雷公道：「三太子休言，这件事我们不知。大圣是个惯家熟套，须教他趁此时候，一则魔头困倦，二来夜黑无防，就请快去，快去。」

好大聖，笑唏唏的，將鐵棒藏了。The splendid Great Sage, grinning, hid away his iron rod.跳下高峰，又至洞口，搖身一變，變作一個促織兒。He leapt down from the high peak, made his way again to the cave entrance, shook himself, and transformed into a cricket.真個：Truly:

好大圣，笑唏唏的，将铁棒藏了。跳下高峰，又至洞口，摇身一变，变作一个促织儿。真个：

蹬開大腿，三五跳，跳到門邊，自門縫裡鑽將進去，蹲在那壁根下，迎著裡面燈光，仔細觀看。Kicking out his legs, in three or five hops he sprang to the doorway, wriggled in through a crack in the door, and crouched at the foot of the wall, facing the lamplight within, watching carefully.只見那大小群妖，一個個狼餐虎嚥，正都吃東西哩。There he saw the demons great and small, every one of them gulping and gorging like wolves and tigers, all busy eating.行者揲揲鎚鎚的叫了一遍。Wukong chirped away steadily for a while.少時間，收了家火，又都去安排窩鋪，各各安身。After a short while, they cleared away the cookware, and then all went off to arrange their sleeping quarters, each settling in for the night.

蹬开大腿，三五跳，跳到门边，自门缝里钻将进去，蹲在那壁根下，迎著里面灯光，仔细观看。只见那大小群妖，一个个狼餐虎咽，正都吃东西哩。行者揲揲锤锤的叫了一遍。少时间，收了家火，又都去安排窝铺，各各安身。

約摸有一更時分，行者才到他後邊房裡，只聽那老魔傳令，教：「各門上小的醒睡，恐孫悟空又變甚麼，私入家偷盜。」又有些該班坐夜的，滌滌托托，梆鈴齊響。By about the first watch, Wukong made his way to the room behind, where he heard the old demon giving orders: "Have the little ones at every door stay alert while they sleep, in case Sun Wukong transforms into something again and sneaks in to steal." There were also some on night duty, clattering and knocking, with clappers and bells sounding together.這大聖越好行事。This made it all the easier for the Great Sage to go about his business.鑽入房門，見有一架石床，左右列幾個抹粉搽胭的山精樹鬼，展鋪蓋伏侍老魔，脫腳的脫腳，解衣的解衣。He slipped in through the chamber door and saw a stone bed, with several powdered and rouged mountain sprites and tree spirits arrayed on either side, spreading the bedding to serve the old demon—some taking off his boots, others undoing his robes.只見那魔王寬了衣服，左肐膊上白森森的套著那個圈子，原來像一個連珠鐲頭模樣。He saw the demon king loosen his clothes, and on his left forearm gleamed white the ring, which turned out to look like a string of linked bracelet-beads.你看他更不取下，轉往上抹了兩抹，緊緊的勒在肐膊上，方才睡下。Notice that he did not take it off at all, but instead pushed it up his arm a couple of times, binding it tightly onto his forearm, before finally lying down to sleep.行者見了，將身又變，變作一個黃皮虼蚤，跳上石床，鑽入被裡，爬在那怪的肐膊上，著實一口。When Wukong saw this, he transformed his body again, becoming a yellow-skinned flea, hopped onto the stone bed, burrowed under the quilt, crawled onto the monster's forearm, and bit down hard.叮的那怪翻身罵道：「這些少打的奴才！The bite made the monster roll over and curse, "You servants who haven't been beaten enough!"被也不抖，床也不拂，不知甚麼東西，咬了我這一下。」他卻把圈子又捋上兩捋，依然睡下。"You didn't shake out the quilt or sweep the bed properly—something's just bitten me." He then pushed the ring up a couple more times, and lay back down to sleep as before.行者爬上那圈子，又咬一口。Wukong crawled onto the ring and bit him again.那怪睡不得，又翻過身來道：「刺鬧殺我也！」Unable to sleep, the monster rolled over again and said, "This stinging is killing me!"

约摸有一更时分，行者才到他后边房里，只听那老魔传令，教：「各门上小的醒睡，恐孙悟空又变甚么，私入家偷盗。」又有些该班坐夜的，涤涤托托，梆铃齐响。这大圣越好行事。钻入房门，见有一架石床，左右列几个抹粉搽胭的山精树鬼，展铺盖伏侍老魔，脱脚的脱脚，解衣的解衣。只见那魔王宽了衣服，左肐膊上白森森的套著那个圈子，原来像一个连珠镯头模样。你看他更不取下，转往上抹了两抹，紧紧的勒在肐膊上，方才睡下。行者见了，将身又变，变作一个黄皮虼蚤，跳上石床，钻入被里，爬在那怪的肐膊上，著实一口。叮的那怪翻身骂道：「这些少打的奴才！被也不抖，床也不拂，不知甚么东西，咬了我这一下。」他却把圈子又捋上两捋，依然睡下。行者爬上那圈子，又咬一口。那怪睡不得，又翻过身来道：「刺闹杀我也！」

行者見他關防得緊，寶貝又隨身，不肯除下，料偷他的不得。Seeing how tightly he guarded himself, and that the treasure stayed on his person and he refused to take it off, Wukong reckoned there was no way to steal it.跳下床來，還變做促織兒，出了房門，徑至後面，又聽得龍吟馬嘶。He hopped down off the bed, turned back into a cricket, went out through the chamber door, made straight for the rear, and there again heard a dragon crying and a horse neighing.原來那層門緊鎖，火龍、火馬都吊在裡面。It turned out that door was locked tight, with the fire dragon and fire horse both tethered inside.行者現了原身，走近門前，使個解鎖法，念動咒語，用手一抹，扢扠一聲，那鎖雙鐄俱就脫落。Wukong resumed his true form, walked up to the door, worked a lock-opening spell, recited the incantation, gave it a wipe with his hand, and with a click both hasps of the lock fell away at once.推開門，闖將進去觀看，原來那裡面被火器照得明晃晃的，如白日一般。He pushed open the door and burst in to look, and found the whole place lit up bright and dazzling by the fire-implements, just like broad daylight.忽見東西兩邊斜靠著幾件兵器，都是太子的砍妖刀等物，並那火德的火弓、火箭等物。He suddenly saw, leaning slantwise against the east and west walls, several weapons—all the prince's demon-slaying sword and the like, along with the Fire God's fire bow, fire arrows, and other things.行者映火光，週圍看了一遍，又見那門背後一張石桌子上有一個篾絲盤兒，放著一把毫毛。By the light of the fire, Wukong looked all around once more, and saw behind the door, on a stone table, a bamboo-strip tray holding a bunch of hairs.大聖滿心歡喜，將毫毛拿起來，啊了兩口熱氣，叫聲：「變！」即變作三五十個小猴。The Great Sage was overjoyed, picked up the hairs, breathed two mouthfuls of hot breath onto them, and shouted, "Change!"—and at once they turned into thirty or fifty little monkeys.教他都拿了刀、劍、杵、索、裘輪及弓、箭、槍、車、葫蘆、火鴉、火鼠、火馬，一應套去之物，��了火龍，縱起火勢，從裡邊往外燒來。He had them all take up the sword, blade, pestle, rope, fur-wheel, and the bow, arrows, spear, cart, gourd, fire-crows, fire-rats, fire-horses—every item that had been captured—then he mounted the fire dragon, let the flames loose, and set the fire burning from the inside outward.只聽得烘烘����，撲撲乒乒，好便似咋雷連炮之聲。All that could be heard was a roaring and crackling, a popping and banging, exactly like peals of thunder mixed with cannon fire.慌得那些大小妖精夢夢查查的，披著被，朦著頭，喊的喊，哭的哭，一個個走頭無路，被這火燒死大半。This threw the demons great and small into a panic, half-asleep and bewildered, throwing quilts over themselves and covering their heads, some shouting, some wailing, every one of them at their wits' end with nowhere to run, and more than half were burned to death by this fire.美猴王得勝回來，只好有三更時候。The Handsome Monkey King returned in victory, and by then it was just about the third watch.

行者见他关防得紧，宝贝又随身，不肯除下，料偷他的不得。跳下床来，还变做促织儿，出了房门，径至后面，又听得龙吟马嘶。原来那层门紧锁，火龙、火马都吊在里面。行者现了原身，走近门前，使个解锁法，念动咒语，用手一抹，扢扠一声，那锁双𨱑俱就脱落。推开门，闯将进去观看，原来那里面被火器照得明晃晃的，如白日一般。忽见东西两边斜靠著几件兵器，都是太子的砍妖刀等物，并那火德的火弓、火箭等物。行者映火光，周围看了一遍，又见那门背后一张石桌子上有一个篾丝盘儿，放著一把毫毛。大圣满心欢喜，将毫毛拿起来，啊了两口热气，叫声：「变！」即变作三五十个小猴。教他都拿了刀、剑、杵、索、裘轮及弓、箭、枪、车、葫芦、火鸦、火鼠、火马，一应套去之物，𩣔了火龙，纵起火势，从里边往外烧来。只听得烘烘𤊨𤊨，扑扑乒乒，好便似咋雷连炮之声。慌得那些大小妖精梦梦查查的，披著被，朦著头，喊的喊，哭的哭，一个个走头无路，被这火烧死大半。美猴王得胜回来，只好有三更时候。

卻說那高峰上，李天王眾位忽見火光晃亮，一擁前來。Meanwhile, up on the high peak, Heavenly King Li and the others suddenly saw the firelight blazing bright, and all rushed forward together.見行者騎著龍，喝喝呼呼，縱著小猴，徑上峰頭，厲聲高叫道：「來收兵器，來收兵器。」火德與哪吒答應一聲。They saw Wukong riding the dragon, shouting and hollering, driving the little monkeys along, heading straight up to the peak, and calling out loudly, "Come and collect your weapons, come and collect your weapons!" The Fire God and Nezha answered with a shout.這行者將身一抖，那把毫毛復上身來。Wukong gave his body a shake, and the bunch of hairs returned to his body.哪吒太子收了他六件兵器，火德星君著眾火部收了火龍等物，都笑吟吟贊賀行者不題。Prince Nezha collected his six weapons, and the Fire God had his Fire Department gather up the fire dragon and the other things, and all of them, smiling with delight, praised and congratulated Wukong—no need to dwell on that further.

却说那高峰上，李天王众位忽见火光晃亮，一拥前来。见行者骑著龙，喝喝呼呼，纵著小猴，径上峰头，厉声高叫道：「来收兵器，来收兵器。」火德与哪咤答应一声。这行者将身一抖，那把毫毛复上身来。哪咤太子收了他六件兵器，火德星君著众火部收了火龙等物，都笑吟吟赞贺行者不题。

卻說那金兜洞裡火焰紛紛，諕得個兕大王魂不附體，急欠身開了房門，雙手拿著圈子，東推東火滅，西推西火消，滿空中冒煙突火，執著寶貝跑了一遍，四下裡煙火俱熄。Meanwhile, inside Jindou Cave the flames were raging in all directions, frightening the Rhinoceros King half out of his wits; he hurriedly sat up, threw open his chamber door, and holding the ring in both hands, pushed east and the fire there died out, pushed west and the fire there vanished—smoke and flame filled the whole sky, and he ran about clutching his treasure, until on every side the smoke and fire were all extinguished.急忙收救群妖，已此燒殺大半，男男女女，收不上百十餘丁；He hastily set about rescuing his host of demons, but by then more than half had already been burned to death, and gathering the men and women together, he could muster no more than a hundred or so;又查看藏兵之內，各件皆無。he then checked the weapon storeroom, and every single item was gone.又去後面看處，見八戒、沙僧與長老還綑住未解，白龍馬還在槽上，行李擔亦在屋裡。He went to look at the back as well, and found Bajie, Sha Monk, and the elder still bound and not freed, the white dragon horse still at its trough, and the luggage load still in the room.妖魔遂恨道：「不知是那個小妖不仔細，失了火，致令如此。」傍有近侍的告道：「大王，這火不干本家之事。The demon then said bitterly, "I don't know which careless little demon let the fire start, causing all this." An attendant standing nearby reported, "Great King, this fire had nothing to do with our own household."多是個偷營劫寨之賊，放了那火部之物，盜了神兵去也。」老魔方然省悟道：「沒有別人，斷乎是孫悟空那賊。"It was very likely a thief raiding the camp who set loose those Fire Department items and stole the divine weapons away." Only then did the old demon come to his senses and say, "It can be no one else—it must certainly be that thief Sun Wukong."怪道我臨睡時不得安穩。"No wonder I couldn't settle down peacefully when I went to sleep."想是那賊猴變化進來，在我這肐膊叮了兩口。"It must have been that thieving monkey who transformed himself and got in, biting my forearm twice."一定是要偷我的寶貝，見我抹勒得緊，不能下手，故此盜了兵器，縱著火龍，放此狠毒之心，意欲燒殺我也。"He must certainly have meant to steal my treasure, and finding I had it bound too tight to get at, he stole the weapons instead and let the fire dragon loose, setting his vicious heart on burning us all to death."賊猴啊！"You thieving monkey!"你枉使機關，不知我的本事。"You've wasted your scheming in vain—you don't know my true power."我但帶了這件寶貝，就是入大海而不能溺，赴火池而不能焚哩。"As long as I wear this treasure, I could plunge into the great sea and not drown, or step into a pool of fire and not burn."這番若拿住那賊，只把刮了點垛，方趁我心。」"If I catch that thief this time, I'll flay him and mince him to bits before I'm satisfied."

却说那金兜洞里火焰纷纷，諕得个兕大王魂不附体，急欠身开了房门，双手拿著圈子，东推东火灭，西推西火消，满空中冒烟突火，执著宝贝跑了一遍，四下里烟火俱熄。急忙收救群妖，已此烧杀大半，男男女女，收不上百十余丁；又查看藏兵之内，各件皆无。又去后面看处，见八戒、沙僧与长老还捆住未解，白龙马还在槽上，行李担亦在屋里。妖魔遂恨道：「不知是那个小妖不仔细，失了火，致令如此。」傍有近侍的告道：「大王，这火不干本家之事。多是个偷营劫寨之贼，放了那火部之物，盗了神兵去也。」老魔方然省悟道：「没有别人，断乎是孙悟空那贼。怪道我临睡时不得安稳。想是那贼猴变化进来，在我这肐膊叮了两口。一定是要偷我的宝贝，见我抹勒得紧，不能下手，故此盗了兵器，纵著火龙，放此狠毒之心，意欲烧杀我也。贼猴啊！你枉使机关，不知我的本事。我但带了这件宝贝，就是入大海而不能溺，赴火池而不能焚哩。这番若拿住那贼，只把刮了点垛，方趁我心。」

說著話，懊惱多時，不覺的雞鳴天曉。So saying, he brooded in vexation for a long while, until before he knew it the cocks were crowing and dawn had come.那高峰上太子得了六件兵器，對行者道：「大聖，天色已明，不須怠慢，我們趁那妖魔挫了銳氣，與火部等扶助你，再去力戰，庶幾這次可擒拿也。」行者笑道：「說得有理。Up on the high peak, the prince, having recovered his six weapons, said to Wukong, "Great Sage, the sky is already light, so there's no need to delay—let's take advantage of the demon's spirit being broken, and the Fire Department and the rest of us will support you in fighting hard again, so that this time we may well be able to capture him." Wukong laughed, "Well said."我們齊了心，耍子兒去耶。」一個個抖擻威風，喜弄武藝，徑至洞口。"Let's all set our hearts as one and go have some fun." Every one of them shook out their might, eager to show off their martial skill, and headed straight to the cave entrance.行者叫道：「潑魔出來，與老孫打者。」Wukong called out, "Come out, you vile fiend, and fight with old Sun!"

说著话，懊恼多时，不觉的鸡鸣天晓。那高峰上太子得了六件兵器，对行者道：「大圣，天色已明，不须怠慢，我们趁那妖魔挫了锐气，与火部等扶助你，再去力战，庶几这次可擒拿也。」行者笑道：「说得有理。我们齐了心，耍子儿去耶。」一个个抖擞威风，喜弄武艺，径至洞口。行者叫道：「泼魔出来，与老孙打者。」

原來那裡兩扇石門被火氣化成灰燼，門裡邊有幾個小妖，正然掃地撮灰。It turned out that the two stone door-leaves there had been reduced to ashes by the fire, and inside the gate several little demons were just then sweeping the ground and scooping up ash.忽見眾聖齊來，慌得丟了掃帚，撇下灰耙，跑入裡面，又報道：「孫悟空領著許多天神，又在門外罵戰哩。」那兕怪聞報大驚，扢迸迸，鋼牙咬響；Suddenly seeing all the gods arrive together, they panicked, dropped their brooms, threw down their ash-rakes, and ran inside to report, "Sun Wukong is leading a great many heavenly gods, and he's out at the gate again shouting a challenge." When the Rhinoceros fiend heard this report he was greatly alarmed, and gnashed his steel teeth with a grinding sound;滴溜溜，環眼睜圓。his ring-shaped eyes rolled and glared wide open.挺著長槍，帶了寶貝，走出門來，潑口亂罵道：「我把你這個偷營放火的賊猴！Gripping his long spear and carrying his treasure, he strode out the gate, cursing wildly, "You thieving monkey who raided my camp and set the fire!"你有多大手段，敢這等藐視我也？」行者笑臉兒罵道：「潑怪物！"How much skill do you really have, that you dare look down on me like this?" Wukong, grinning, cursed back, "You vile monster!"你要知我的手段，且上前來，我說與你聽："If you want to know my skill, come closer, and I'll tell it to you:"

原来那里两扇石门被火气化成灰烬，门里边有几个小妖，正然扫地撮灰。忽见众圣齐来，慌得丢了扫帚，撇下灰耙，跑入里面，又报道：「孙悟空领著许多天神，又在门外骂战哩。」那兕怪闻报大惊，扢迸迸，钢牙咬响；滴溜溜，环眼睁圆。挺著长枪，带了宝贝，走出门来，泼口乱骂道：「我把你这个偷营放火的贼猴！你有多大手段，敢这等藐视我也？」行者笑脸儿骂道：「泼怪物！你要知我的手段，且上前来，我说与你听：

那怪聞言，指著行者道：「你原來是個偷天的大賊。Hearing this, the monster pointed at Wukong and said, "So you're a great thief who steals even from Heaven."不要走，吃吾一槍。」這大聖使棒來迎。"Don't run—take a thrust of my spear!" The Great Sage swung his rod to meet him.兩個正自相持，這壁廂哪吒太子生嗔，火德星君發狠，即將那六件神兵、火部等物，望妖魔身上拋來。While the two of them were locked in combat, on this side Prince Nezha flared with anger and the Fire God grew fierce, and at once they hurled the six divine weapons and the Fire Department's items straight at the demon's body.孫大聖更加雄勢。The Great Sage Sun grew all the more forceful.一邊又雷公使㨝，天王舉刀，不分上下，一擁齊來。On another side, the Duke of Thunder wielded his mallet and the Heavenly King raised his blade, and without any order of rank they all rushed in together.那魔頭巍巍冷笑，袖子中暗暗將寶貝取出，撒手拋起空中，叫聲：「著！」唿喇的一下，把六件神兵、火部等物、雷公㨝、天王刀、行者棒，盡情又都撈去。The demon chief, towering and cold, gave a sneer, secretly drew the treasure from his sleeve, flung it up into the air with a toss of his hand, and shouted, "Got it!" With a whoosh, it scooped up the six divine weapons, the Fire Department's items, the Duke of Thunder's mallet, the Heavenly King's blade, and Wukong's rod, every single one, all over again.眾神靈依然赤手，孫大聖仍是空拳。The assembled gods were once again empty-handed, and the Great Sage Sun was back to bare fists.妖魔得勝回身，叫：「小的們，搬石砌門，動土修造，從新整理房廊。The demon, having won the bout, turned back and called out, "You little ones, move stones and build up the gate, break ground and rebuild, and set the halls and corridors in order anew."待齊備了，殺唐僧三眾來謝土，大家散福受用。」眾小妖領命維持不題。"Once everything is ready, we'll kill the Tang Monk and his three followers as a thanksgiving offering to the earth, and everyone can share in the blessing and enjoy it." The little demons received the order and set about the work—no need to dwell on that further.

那怪闻言，指著行者道：「你原来是个偷天的大贼。不要走，吃吾一枪。」这大圣使棒来迎。两个正自相持，这壁厢哪咤太子生嗔，火德星君发狠，即将那六件神兵、火部等物，望妖魔身上抛来。孙大圣更加雄势。一边又雷公使㨝，天王举刀，不分上下，一拥齐来。那魔头巍巍冷笑，袖子中暗暗将宝贝取出，撒手抛起空中，叫声：「著！」唿喇的一下，把六件神兵、火部等物、雷公㨝、天王刀、行者棒，尽情又都捞去。众神灵依然赤手，孙大圣仍是空拳。妖魔得胜回身，叫：「小的们，搬石砌门，动土修造，从新整理房廊。待齐备了，杀唐僧三众来谢土，大家散福受用。」众小妖领命维持不题。

卻說那李天王帥眾回上高峰，火德怨哪吒性急，雷公怪天王放刁，惟水伯在傍無語。Meanwhile, Heavenly King Li led the group back up to the high peak, where the Fire God blamed Nezha for being too hasty, the Duke of Thunder blamed the Heavenly King for being reckless, while only the Water God stood by saying nothing.行者見他們面不廝睹，心有縈思，沒奈何，懷恨強歡，對眾笑道：「列位不須煩惱。Seeing that they could not even look each other in the face, their minds tangled with worry, Wukong, having no other choice, suppressed his own resentment and forced a smile, saying to them all, "Gentlemen, there's no need to fret."自古道：『勝敗兵家之常。』我和他論武藝，也只如此；"As the old saying goes: 'Victory and defeat are the common lot of soldiers.' When I match martial skill with him, it comes down to just this;"但只是他多了這個圈子，所以為害，把我等兵器又套將去了。"it's only that he has this extra ring, which is what does the damage, and it's scooped up all our weapons again."你且放心，待老孫再去查查他的腳色來也。」太子道：「你前啟奏玉帝，查勘滿天世界，更無一點蹤跡，如今卻又何處去查？」行者道：「我想起來，佛法無邊。"But set your minds at ease—let old Sun go find out just who he really is." The prince said, "Before this, you petitioned the Jade Emperor and had the whole of Heaven searched, and not a trace was found—so where will you go to search now?" Wukong said, "It occurs to me—the power of the Buddha's Law knows no bounds."如今且上西天問我佛如來，教他著慧眼觀看大地四部洲，看這怪是那方生長，何處鄉貫住居，圈子是件甚麼寶貝。"I'll go now to the Western Heaven and ask our Buddha Tathagata, and have him use his wisdom-eye to look over the four continents of the earth, to see where this fiend was born and raised, where his home and residence are, and just what kind of treasure that ring is."不管怎的，一定要拿他，與列位出氣，還汝等歡喜歸天。」眾神道：「既有此意，不須久停，快去，快去。」"No matter what, I must certainly catch him, avenge you all, and let you return to Heaven rejoicing." The gods said, "Since you're resolved on this, there's no need to delay any longer—go quickly, go quickly."

却说那李天王帅众回上高峰，火德怨哪咤性急，雷公怪天王放刁，惟水伯在傍无语。行者见他们面不厮睹，心有萦思，没奈何，怀恨强欢，对众笑道：「列位不须烦恼。自古道：『胜败兵家之常。』我和他论武艺，也只如此；但只是他多了这个圈子，所以为害，把我等兵器又套将去了。你且放心，待老孙再去查查他的脚色来也。」太子道：「你前启奏玉帝，查勘满天世界，更无一点踪迹，如今却又何处去查？」行者道：「我想起来，佛法无边。如今且上西天问我佛如来，教他著慧眼观看大地四部洲，看这怪是那方生长，何处乡贯住居，圈子是件甚么宝贝。不管怎的，一定要拿他，与列位出气，还汝等欢喜归天。」众神道：「既有此意，不须久停，快去，快去。」

好行者，說聲去，就縱觔斗雲，早至靈山。The splendid Wukong, no sooner said than done, sprang onto his somersault cloud and soon arrived at Vulture Peak.落下祥光，四方觀看，好去處：He descended from the auspicious light and looked all around—what a fine place:

那行者正然點看山景，忽聽得有人叫道：「孫悟空，從那裡來？Just as Wukong was taking in the mountain scenery, he suddenly heard someone call out, "Sun Wukong, where have you come from?"往何處去？」急回頭看，原來是比丘尼尊者。"Where are you going?" He turned quickly to look, and it turned out to be the Bhikshuni Worthy.大聖作禮道：「正有一事，欲見如來。」比丘尼道：「你這個頑皮。The Great Sage bowed in greeting and said, "I have a matter just now and wish to see the Tathagata." The Bhikshuni said, "You mischievous thing."既然要見如來，怎麼不登寶剎，且在這裡看山？」行者道：「初來貴地，故此大膽。」比丘尼道：「你快跟我來也。」這行者緊隨至雷音寺山門下，又見那八大金剛雄糾糾的，兩邊擋住。"If you want to see the Tathagata, why haven't you gone up to the sacred monastery, and instead are here looking at the mountain?" Wukong said, "This is my first time at this honored place, so I was being bold enough to look around." The Bhikshuni said, "Come with me quickly." Wukong followed close behind her to the gate of Thunderclap Monastery, where he again saw the Eight Great Vajra Guardians standing imposingly, blocking the way on either side.比丘尼道：「悟空，暫候片時，等我與你奏上去來。」行者只得住立門外。The Bhikshuni said, "Wukong, wait here a moment while I go report this for you." Wukong had no choice but to stand waiting outside the gate.那比丘尼至佛前合掌道：「孫悟空有事，要見如來。」如來傳旨令入，金剛才閃路放行。The Bhikshuni went before the Buddha, pressed her palms together, and said, "Sun Wukong has a matter and wishes to see the Tathagata." The Tathagata sent word to let him enter, and only then did the Vajra Guardians step aside and let him pass.

那行者正然点看山景，忽听得有人叫道：「孙悟空，从那里来？往何处去？」急回头看，原来是比丘尼尊者。大圣作礼道：「正有一事，欲见如来。」比丘尼道：「你这个顽皮。既然要见如来，怎么不登宝刹，且在这里看山？」行者道：「初来贵地，故此大胆。」比丘尼道：「你快跟我来也。」这行者紧随至雷音寺山门下，又见那八大金刚雄纠纠的，两边挡住。比丘尼道：「悟空，暂候片时，等我与你奏上去来。」行者只得住立门外。那比丘尼至佛前合掌道：「孙悟空有事，要见如来。」如来传旨令入，金刚才闪路放行。

行者低頭禮拜畢，如來問道：「悟空，前聞得觀音尊者解脫汝身，皈依釋教，保唐僧來此求經，你怎麼獨自到此？After Wukong bowed his head in worship, the Tathagata asked, "Wukong, I heard before that the Bodhisattva Guanyin freed you and had you take refuge in the Buddhist faith to escort the Tang Monk here in search of scriptures—why have you come here alone?"有何事故？」行者頓首道：「上告我佛。"What is the matter?" Wukong knocked his head to the ground and said, "I report to our Buddha."弟子自秉迦持，與唐朝師父西來，行至金兜山金兜洞，遇著一個惡魔頭，名喚兕大王，神通廣大，把師父與師弟等攝入洞中。"Since your disciple took up the faith and came west with my Tang master, we traveled as far as Jindou Cave on Mount Jindou, where we met a vicious demon chief called the Rhinoceros King, whose magic powers are vast, and he seized my master and my fellow disciples and carried them into his cave."弟子向伊求取，沒好意，兩家比迸，被他將一個白森森的圈子，搶了我的鐵棒。"When your disciple went to demand them back, he showed no goodwill, and the two of us fought it out, and he used a gleaming white ring to snatch away my iron rod."我恐他是天將思凡，急上界查勘不出。"Fearing he might be some heavenly general who had grown fond of the mortal world, I hurried up to the celestial realm to investigate, but could find nothing."蒙玉帝差遣李天王父子助援，又被他搶了太子的六般兵器。"The Jade Emperor kindly dispatched Heavenly King Li and his son to assist me, but he also snatched away the prince's six kinds of weapons."及請火德星君放火燒他，又被他將火具搶去。"Then I invited the Fire God to set fire and burn him, but he snatched away the fire-implements as well."又請水德星君放水渰他，一毫又渰他不著。"I also invited the Water God to loose water and drown him, but not the slightest bit of water could even touch him."弟子費若干精神氣力，將那鐵棒等物偷出，復去索戰，又被他將前物依然套去，無法收降。"Your disciple spent no small amount of energy and effort stealing back the iron rod and the other items, and went again to demand battle, but he scooped up all those same items once more, and there was no way to subdue him."因此特告我佛，望垂慈與弟子看看，果然是何物出身。"For this reason I have come specially to report to our Buddha, hoping in your mercy you might look and see just what sort of creature he truly is by origin."我好去拿他家屬四鄰，擒此魔頭，救我師父，合拱虔誠，拜求正果。」"So that I may go and seize his family and neighbors, capture this demon chief, save my master, and together with devout sincerity bow and seek the true fruit of enlightenment."

行者低头礼拜毕，如来问道：「悟空，前闻得观音尊者解脱汝身，皈依释教，保唐僧来此求经，你怎么独自到此？有何事故？」行者顿首道：「上告我佛。弟子自秉迦持，与唐朝师父西来，行至金兜山金兜洞，遇著一个恶魔头，名唤兕大王，神通广大，把师父与师弟等摄入洞中。弟子向伊求取，没好意，两家比迸，被他将一个白森森的圈子，抢了我的铁棒。我恐他是天将思凡，急上界查勘不出。蒙玉帝差遣李天王父子助援，又被他抢了太子的六般兵器。及请火德星君放火烧他，又被他将火具抢去。又请水德星君放水渰他，一毫又渰他不著。弟子费若干精神气力，将那铁棒等物偷出，复去索战，又被他将前物依然套去，无法收降。因此特告我佛，望垂慈与弟子看看，果然是何物出身。我好去拿他家属四邻，擒此魔头，救我师父，合拱虔诚，拜求正果。」

如來聽說，將慧眼遙觀，早已知識。When the Tathagata heard this, he used his wisdom-eye to gaze from afar, and at once knew everything.對行者道：「那怪物我雖知之，但不可與你說。He said to Xingzhe: "That monster—though I know what it is, I cannot tell you."你這猴兒口敞，一傳道是我說他，他就不與你鬥，定要嚷上靈山，反遺禍於我也。You monkey have a loose tongue—if word got out that I told you, he would not fight you at all, but would go straight up to Vulture Peak to make a scene, and the trouble would fall back on me instead.我這裡著法力助你擒他去罷。」行者再拜稱謝道：「如來助我甚麼法力？」如來即令十八尊羅漢開寶庫，取十八粒金丹砂，與悟空助力。"Let me instead lend you some magic power to help you capture him." Xingzhe bowed again in thanks and asked, "What power will you lend me, Rulai?" Rulai at once ordered the Eighteen Luohan to open the treasury and take out eighteen grains of Golden Cinnabar Sand to aid Wukong.行者道：「金丹砂卻如何？」如來道：「你去洞外，叫那妖魔比試。Xingzhe asked, "What good is Golden Cinnabar Sand?" Rulai said, "Go to the mouth of the cave and challenge the demon to a contest.演他出來，卻教羅漢放砂，陷住他，使他動不得身，拔不得腳，憑你揪打便了。」行者笑道：「妙妙妙，趁早去來。」Lure him out, and then have the Luohan release the sand to bury him, so that he cannot move his body or lift his feet, and you may seize and beat him as you please." Xingzhe laughed and said, "Splendid, splendid, splendid! Let's go at once."

如来听说，将慧眼遥观，早已知识。对行者道：「那怪物我虽知之，但不可与你说。你这猴儿口敞，一传道是我说他，他就不与你斗，定要嚷上灵山，反遗祸于我也。我这里著法力助你擒他去罢。」行者再拜称谢道：「如来助我甚么法力？」如来即令十八尊罗汉开宝库，取十八粒金丹砂，与悟空助力。行者道：「金丹砂却如何？」如来道：「你去洞外，叫那妖魔比试。演他出来，却教罗汉放砂，陷住他，使他动不得身，拔不得脚，凭你揪打便了。」行者笑道：「妙妙妙，趁早去来。」

那羅漢不敢遲延，即取金丹砂出門。The Luohan dared not delay, and at once took up the Golden Cinnabar Sand and went out the gate.行者又謝了如來。Xingzhe thanked Rulai once more.一路查看，止有十六尊羅漢，行者嚷道：「這是那個去處，卻賣放人。」眾羅漢道：「那個賣放？」行者道：「原差十八尊，今怎麼只得十六尊？」說不了，裡邊走出降龍、伏虎二尊，上前道：「悟空，怎麼就這等放刁？Checking the party along the way, he found only sixteen Luohan present, and Xingzhe shouted, "What kind of place is this, that you'd cheat and let someone off?" The Luohan said, "Who is cheating whom?" Xingzhe said, "Eighteen were originally sent—how is it there are only sixteen now?" Before he had finished speaking, the two Luohan Subduing the Dragon and Taming the Tiger came out from within and stepped forward, saying, "Wukong, why are you being so unreasonable?我兩個在後聽如來吩咐話的。」行者道：「忒賣法，忒賣法。The two of us stayed behind to hear Rulai's further instructions." Xingzhe said, "Too sly by half, too sly by half.才自若嚷遲了些兒，你敢就不出來了。」眾羅漢笑呵呵駕起祥雲。If I hadn't just now shouted, would you two dare come out at all?" The Luohan all laughed and mounted their auspicious clouds.

那罗汉不敢迟延，即取金丹砂出门。行者又谢了如来。一路查看，止有十六尊罗汉，行者嚷道：「这是那个去处，却卖放人。」众罗汉道：「那个卖放？」行者道：「原差十八尊，今怎么只得十六尊？」说不了，里边走出降龙、伏虎二尊，上前道：「悟空，怎么就这等放刁？我两个在后听如来吩咐话的。」行者道：「忒卖法，忒卖法。才自若嚷迟了些儿，你敢就不出来了。」众罗汉笑呵呵驾起祥云。

不多時，到了金兜山界。Before long, they arrived at the borders of Jindou Mountain.那李天王見了，帥眾相迎，備言前事。When Heavenly King Li saw them, he led everyone out to greet them and related in full what had happened before.羅漢道：「不必絮繁，快去叫他出來。」這大聖捻著拳頭，來於洞口，罵道：「腯潑怪物，快出來與你孫外公見個上下。」那小妖又飛跑去報。The Luohan said, "No need for a long account—hurry and call him out." The Great Sage clenched his fists, went up to the mouth of the cave, and cursed: "You vile, insolent monster, come out at once and let your Grandpa Sun show you a thing or two!" The little demon again ran flying in to report.魔王怒道：「這賊猴又不知請誰來猖獗也。」小妖道：「更無甚將，止他一人。」魔王道：「那根棒子已被我收來，怎麼卻又一人到此？The Demon King said angrily, "That thieving monkey—who knows what reinforcements he's brought to run wild here again!" The little demon said, "There is no one else at all, only him alone." The Demon King said, "I already took that cudgel of his—how can he have come here alone again?敢是又要走拳？」隨帶了寶貝，綽槍在手，叫小妖搬開石塊，跳出門來，罵道：「賊猴，你幾番家不得便宜，就該迴避，如何又來吆喝？」行者道：「這潑魔不識好歹！Perhaps he means to fight with his bare fists again?" He then took his treasure with him, seized his spear in hand, called the little demons to move away the stone blocking the entrance, and leapt out of the gate, cursing: "Thieving monkey, time after time you've gotten nothing but the worse of it—you ought to keep clear, so why have you come shouting again?" Xingzhe said, "This insolent fiend doesn't know what's good for him!若要你外公不來，除非你服了降，陪了禮，送出我師父、師弟，我就饒你。」那怪道：「你那三個和尚已被我洗淨了，不久便要宰殺，你還不識起倒？If you want your Grandpa to stay away, you must surrender, offer an apology, and hand back my master and my fellow disciples—only then will I spare you." The monster said, "Those three monks of yours have already been thoroughly scrubbed clean by me, and before long I shall have them slaughtered—do you still not know how the wind blows?去了罷。」Just go away."

不多时，到了金兜山界。那李天王见了，帅众相迎，备言前事。罗汉道：「不必絮繁，快去叫他出来。」这大圣捻著拳头，来于洞口，骂道：「腯泼怪物，快出来与你孙外公见个上下。」那小妖又飞跑去报。魔王怒道：「这贼猴又不知请谁来猖獗也。」小妖道：「更无甚将，止他一人。」魔王道：「那根棒子已被我收来，怎么却又一人到此？敢是又要走拳？」随带了宝贝，绰枪在手，叫小妖搬开石块，跳出门来，骂道：「贼猴，你几番家不得便宜，就该回避，如何又来吆喝？」行者道：「这泼魔不识好歹！若要你外公不来，除非你服了降，陪了礼，送出我师父、师弟，我就饶你。」那怪道：「你那三个和尚已被我洗净了，不久便要宰杀，你还不识起倒？去了罢。」

行者聽說「宰殺」二字，扢蹬蹬腮邊火發，按不住心頭之怒，丟了架子，掄著拳，斜行抅步，望妖魔使個掛面；When Xingzhe heard the words "slaughtered," fire blazed up along his cheeks, and unable to hold back the fury in his heart, he dropped his stance, swung his fists, stepped sideways and hooked his stride, and aimed a face-raking blow at the demon;那怪展長槍，劈手相迎。the monster stretched out his long spear and met him head-on.行者左跳右跳，哄那妖魔；Xingzhe jumped left and right, luring the demon on;妖魔不知是計，趕離洞口南來。the demon, unaware it was a trick, chased after him southward, away from the mouth of the cave.行者即招呼羅漢把金丹砂望妖魔一齊拋下。Xingzhe at once signaled the Luohan to cast the Golden Cinnabar Sand down upon the demon all together.好砂！What splendid sand!正是那：Truly it was:

行者听说「宰杀」二字，扢蹬蹬腮边火发，按不住心头之怒，丢了架子，抡著拳，斜行抅步，望妖魔使个挂面；那怪展长枪，劈手相迎。行者左跳右跳，哄那妖魔；妖魔不知是计，赶离洞口南来。行者即招呼罗汉把金丹砂望妖魔一齐抛下。好砂！正是那：

那妖魔見飛砂迷目，把頭低了一低，足下就有三尺餘深。When the demon saw the flying sand blinding his eyes, he lowered his head just slightly, and already the sand beneath his feet was more than three feet deep.慌得他將身一縱，跳在浮上一層。In alarm he sprang up with his whole body and leapt onto the layer above.未曾立得穩，須臾，又有二尺餘深。Before he could even stand firm, in an instant it was again more than two feet deep.那怪急了，拔出腳來，即忙取圈子，往上一撇，叫聲：「著！」唿喇的一下，把十八粒金丹砂又盡套去，拽回步，徑歸本洞。The monster, growing desperate, pulled his feet free, hastily took out his ring, flung it upward, and shouted, "Catch!" With a whoosh it swept up all eighteen grains of Golden Cinnabar Sand at once; he then turned on his heel and went straight back to his own cave.

那妖魔见飞砂迷目，把头低了一低，足下就有三尺余深。慌得他将身一纵，跳在浮上一层。未曾立得稳，须臾，又有二尺余深。那怪急了，拔出脚来，即忙取圈子，往上一撇，叫声：「著！」唿喇的一下，把十八粒金丹砂又尽套去，拽回步，径归本洞。

那羅漢一個個空手停雲。The Luohan, one by one, stood empty-handed upon their halted clouds.行者近前問道：「眾羅漢，怎麼不下砂了？」羅漢道：「適才響了一聲，金丹砂就不見矣。」行者笑道：「又是那話兒套將去了。」天王等眾道：「這般難伏啊，卻怎麼捉得他？Xingzhe came forward and asked, "Reverend Luohan, why has the sand stopped falling?" The Luohan said, "Just now there was a sound, and the Golden Cinnabar Sand vanished." Xingzhe said with a laugh, "That thing has swept it up again." The Heavenly King and the others said, "If he's this hard to subdue, however shall he be captured?何日歸天，何顏見帝也？」旁有降龍、伏虎二羅漢對行者道：「悟空，你曉得我兩個出門遲滯何也？」行者道：「老孫只怪你躲避不來，卻不知有甚話說。」羅漢道：「如來吩咐我兩個說：『那妖魔神通廣大，如失了金丹砂，就教孫悟空上離恨天兜率宮太上老君處尋他的蹤跡，庶幾可一鼓而擒也。』」行者聞言道：「可恨，可恨！When shall we ever return to Heaven, and with what face shall we see the Emperor?" Standing nearby, the two Luohan Subduing the Dragon and Taming the Tiger said to Xingzhe, "Wukong, do you know why the two of us were slow in coming out?" Xingzhe said, "Old Monkey only blamed you for hanging back and not coming, without knowing there was some word to be said." The Luohan said, "Rulai instructed the two of us to say: 'That demon's magic powers are vast; if he should lose the Golden Cinnabar Sand, have Sun Wukong go to the Palace of Sorrow-Parted Heaven, to the Tushita Palace, to Lord Laozi, and seek the trail there—then he may be captured in a single stroke.'" On hearing this, Xingzhe said, "Hateful, hateful!如來卻也閃賺老孫。So Rulai has been keeping Old Monkey in the dark and toying with him after all.當時就該對我說了，卻不免教汝等遠涉。」李天王道：「既是如來有此明示，大聖就當早起。」He should have told me at the time—instead he let you all make this long journey for nothing." Heavenly King Li said, "Since Rulai has given this clear instruction, the Great Sage should set out at once."

那罗汉一个个空手停云。行者近前问道：「众罗汉，怎么不下砂了？」罗汉道：「适才响了一声，金丹砂就不见矣。」行者笑道：「又是那话儿套将去了。」天王等众道：「这般难伏啊，却怎么捉得他？何日归天，何颜见帝也？」旁有降龙、伏虎二罗汉对行者道：「悟空，你晓得我两个出门迟滞何也？」行者道：「老孙只怪你躲避不来，却不知有甚话说。」罗汉道：「如来吩咐我两个说：『那妖魔神通广大，如失了金丹砂，就教孙悟空上离恨天兜率宫太上老君处寻他的踪迹，庶几可一鼓而擒也。』」行者闻言道：「可恨，可恨！如来却也闪赚老孙。当时就该对我说了，却不免教汝等远涉。」李天王道：「既是如来有此明示，大圣就当早起。」

好行者，說聲去，就縱一道觔斗雲，直入南天門裡。Splendid Xingzhe—no sooner had he said the word "go" than he sprang onto a somersault cloud and flew straight in through the Southern Gate of Heaven.時有四大元帥擎拳拱手道：「擒怪事如何？」行者且行且答道：「未哩，未哩。At that time the Four Great Marshals clasped their fists in salute and asked, "How goes the matter of capturing the demon?" Xingzhe answered as he walked on, "Not yet, not yet.如今有處尋根去也。」四將不敢留阻，讓他進了天門。I am now off to trace the matter to its root." The four generals dared not detain him, and let him pass through the Gate of Heaven.不上靈霄殿，不入斗牛宮，徑至三十三天之外離恨天兜率宮前，見兩仙童侍立，他也不通姓名，一直徑走。He did not go up to the Hall of Miraculous Mist, nor did he enter the Palace of the Dipper and Ox; he went straight beyond the Thirty-three Heavens to the front of the Tushita Palace in the Heaven of Sorrow-Parting. There he saw two immortal boys standing in attendance, but without so much as giving his name he walked straight on in.慌得兩童扯住道：「你是何人？In alarm the two boys pulled him back, saying, "Who are you?往何處去？」行者才說：「我是齊天大聖，欲尋李老君哩。」仙童道：「你怎這樣粗魯？Where are you going?" Only then did Xingzhe say, "I am the Great Sage Equal to Heaven, and I wish to see Lord Li Laojun." The immortal boys said, "Why are you so rude and rough?且住下，讓我們通報。」行者那容分說，喝了一聲，往裡徑走。Wait here a moment and let us announce you." Xingzhe would not let them explain further—he gave a shout and walked straight on inside.忽見老君自內而出，撞個滿懷。Suddenly he saw Laojun coming out from within, and they collided full in each other's arms.行者躬身唱個喏道：「老官，一向少看。」老君笑道：「這猴兒不去取經，卻來我處何幹？」行者道：「取經取經，晝夜無停。Xingzhe bowed and made a salute, saying, "Old Sir, it's been a while since I've seen you." Laojun laughed and said, "You monkey, instead of fetching scriptures, what business brings you to my place?" Xingzhe said, "Fetching scriptures, fetching scriptures—day and night without stopping.有些阻礙，到此行行。」老君道：「西天路阻，與我何干？」行者道：「西天西天，你且休言。There has been some obstruction, so I've come here to have a look around." Laojun said, "The road to the Western Heaven is blocked—what has that to do with me?" Xingzhe said, "The Western Heaven, the Western Heaven—say no more of that for now.尋著蹤跡，與你纏纏。」老君道：「我這裡乃是無上仙宮，有甚蹤跡可尋？」I've traced a trail here, and I've come to have it out with you." Laojun said, "This is the Supreme Immortal Palace here—what trail could there possibly be to trace?"

行者入裡，眼不轉睛，東張西看。Xingzhe went on inside, his eyes never still, looking east and west.走過幾層廊宇，忽見那牛欄邊一個童兒盹睡，青牛不在欄中。Passing through several galleries of buildings, he suddenly saw, beside the ox pen, a boy dozing off, and the green ox was not in its pen.行者道：「老官，走了牛也，走了牛也。」老君大驚道：「這孽畜幾時走了？」正嚷間，那童兒方醒，跪於當面道：「爺爺，弟子睡著，不知是幾時走的。」老君罵道：「你這廝如何盹睡？」童兒叩頭道：「弟子在丹房裡拾得一粒丹，當時吃了，就在此睡著。」老君道：「想是前日煉的七返火丹，吊了一粒，被這廝拾吃了。Xingzhe said, "Old Sir, the ox has run off, the ox has run off!" Laojun cried out in great alarm, "When did that wretched beast get away?" As he was shouting, the boy just then woke up and knelt before him, saying, "Grandfather, your disciple fell asleep and does not know when it got away." Laojun scolded, "How could you, wretch, fall asleep dozing?" The boy kowtowed and said, "Your disciple picked up a pill in the elixir chamber, ate it on the spot, and fell asleep right here." Laojun said, "It must be that of the Sevenfold-Reverted Fire Elixir I refined the other day, one grain fell and this wretch picked it up and ate it.那丹吃一粒，該睡七日哩。Whoever eats one grain of that elixir is bound to sleep for seven days.那孽畜因你睡著，無人看管，遂乘機走下界去，今亦是七日矣。」That wretched beast, since you were asleep and there was no one to watch him, seized the chance and went down to the mortal world—and it has likewise been seven days now."

行者入里，眼不转睛，东张西看。走过几层廊宇，忽见那牛栏边一个童儿盹睡，青牛不在栏中。行者道：「老官，走了牛也，走了牛也。」老君大惊道：「这孽畜几时走了？」正嚷间，那童儿方醒，跪于当面道：「爷爷，弟子睡著，不知是几时走的。」老君骂道：「你这厮如何盹睡？」童儿叩头道：「弟子在丹房里拾得一粒丹，当时吃了，就在此睡著。」老君道：「想是前日炼的七返火丹，吊了一粒，被这厮拾吃了。那丹吃一粒，该睡七日哩。那孽畜因你睡著，无人看管，遂乘机走下界去，今亦是七日矣。」

即查可曾偷甚寶貝。He at once checked whether anything had been stolen among his treasures.行者道：「無甚寶貝，只見他有一個圈子，甚是利害。」老君急查看時，諸般俱在，止不見了金剛琢。Xingzhe said, "I saw no treasures on him, only that he had a ring, which is extremely fierce." Laojun hurriedly checked, and found everything else present—only the Diamond Snare was missing.老君道：「這孽畜偷了我金剛琢去了！」行者道：「原來是這件寶貝。Laojun said, "That wretched beast has stolen my Diamond Snare!" Xingzhe said, "So it was this treasure after all.當時打著老孫的是他。It was that very thing that struck Old Monkey at the time.如今在下界張狂，不知套了我等多少物件。」老君道：「這孽畜在甚地方？」行者道：「現住金兜山金兜洞。Now he's running wild down in the mortal world, and there's no telling how many of our things he's snared away with it." Laojun said, "Where is this wretched beast now?" Xingzhe said, "He currently lives on Jindou Mountain, in the Jindou Cave.他捉了我唐僧進去，搶了我金箍棒。He captured my Tang Sanzang and took him inside, and he snatched away my gold-banded cudgel.請天兵相助，又搶了太子的神兵。When I asked the Heavenly soldiers for help, he also snatched away the Prince's divine weapons.及請火德星君，又搶了他的火具。And when I asked the Star Lord of Fire Virtue, he snatched away his fire implements too.惟水伯雖不能渰死他，倒還不曾搶他物件。Only the Lord of the Waters, though he could not drown him, at least did not have anything of his snatched away.至請如來著羅漢下砂，又將金丹砂搶去。And when I went so far as to ask Rulai to have the Luohan release the sand, he snatched away the Golden Cinnabar Sand too.似你這老官縱放怪物，搶奪傷人，該當何罪？」老君道：「我那金剛琢，乃是我過函關化胡之器，自幼煉成之寶。For an old sir like you, letting loose a monster to plunder and injure people—what crime should that be counted?" Laojun said, "That Diamond Snare of mine is the very implement I used when I passed through Hangu Pass to convert the barbarians—a treasure I refined since my earliest days.憑你甚麼兵器、水火，俱莫能近他。No matter what weapon, water, or fire you use, none can come near it.若偷去我的芭蕉扇兒，連我也不能奈他何矣。」If he had stolen my plantain-leaf fan instead, even I myself could have done nothing against him."

即查可曾偷甚宝贝。行者道：「无甚宝贝，只见他有一个圈子，甚是利害。」老君急查看时，诸般俱在，止不见了金刚琢。老君道：「这孽畜偷了我金刚琢去了！」行者道：「原来是这件宝贝。当时打著老孙的是他。如今在下界张狂，不知套了我等多少物件。」老君道：「这孽畜在甚地方？」行者道：「现住金兜山金兜洞。他捉了我唐僧进去，抢了我金箍棒。请天兵相助，又抢了太子的神兵。及请火德星君，又抢了他的火具。惟水伯虽不能渰死他，倒还不曾抢他物件。至请如来著罗汉下砂，又将金丹砂抢去。似你这老官纵放怪物，抢夺伤人，该当何罪？」老君道：「我那金刚琢，乃是我过函关化胡之器，自幼炼成之宝。凭你甚么兵器、水火，俱莫能近他。若偷去我的芭蕉扇儿，连我也不能奈他何矣。」

大聖才歡歡喜喜，隨著老君。Only then was the Great Sage glad and joyful, and he followed after Laojun.老君執了芭蕉扇，駕著祥雲同行，出了仙宮。Laojun took up his plantain-leaf fan, mounted an auspicious cloud, and set off together with him, leaving the immortal palace.南天門外，低下雲頭，徑至金兜山界。Outside the Southern Gate of Heaven they lowered their cloud-heads and went straight to the borders of Jindou Mountain.見了十八尊羅漢、雷公、水伯、火德、李天王父子，備言前事一遍。There they met the Eighteen Luohan, the Duke of Thunder, the Lord of the Waters, the God of Fire, and Heavenly King Li with his son, and related the whole affair from the beginning.老君道：「孫悟空還去誘他出來，我好收他。」Laojun said, "Let Sun Wukong go lure him out again, so that I may capture him."

大圣才欢欢喜喜，随著老君。老君执了芭蕉扇，驾著祥云同行，出了仙宫。南天门外，低下云头，径至金兜山界。见了十八尊罗汉、雷公、水伯、火德、李天王父子，备言前事一遍。老君道：「孙悟空还去诱他出来，我好收他。」

這行者跳下峰頭，又高聲罵道：「腯潑孽畜！Xingzhe leapt down from the peak and again cursed loudly: "You vile, insolent beast!趁早出來受死！」那小妖又去報知。Come out at once and meet your death!" The little demon again went in to report.老魔道：「這賊猴又不知請誰來也。」急綽槍帶寶，迎出門來。The old demon said, "Who knows what reinforcements that thieving monkey has brought this time!" He hastily seized his spear, took his treasure, and came out through the gate to meet him.行者罵道：「你這潑魔，今番坐定是死了！Xingzhe cursed: "You insolent fiend, this time you are certainly doomed to die!不要走，吃吾一掌。」急縱身跳個滿懷，劈臉打了一個耳括子，回頭就跑。Don't run—take a slap from me!" He sprang forward at once, leapt straight into the demon's arms, struck him full in the face with a box on the ear, then turned and ran.那魔掄槍就趕。The demon swung his spear and gave chase.只聽得高峰上叫道：「那牛兒還不歸家，更待何日？」那魔擡頭，看見是太上老君，就諕得心驚膽戰道：「這賊猴真個是個地裡鬼，卻怎麼就訪得我的主公來也？」Just then he heard a voice calling from the high peak: "You ox, if you do not go home now, when will you ever?" The demon raised his head, and seeing it was Taishang Laojun, was so frightened that his heart trembled and his gall quivered, saying, "That thieving monkey really is a crafty devil—however did he manage to seek out my master and bring him here?"

这行者跳下峰头，又高声骂道：「腯泼孽畜！趁早出来受死！」那小妖又去报知。老魔道：「这贼猴又不知请谁来也。」急绰枪带宝，迎出门来。行者骂道：「你这泼魔，今番坐定是死了！不要走，吃吾一掌。」急纵身跳个满怀，劈脸打了一个耳括子，回头就跑。那魔抡枪就赶。只听得高峰上叫道：「那牛儿还不归家，更待何日？」那魔抬头，看见是太上老君，就諕得心惊胆战道：「这贼猴真个是个地里鬼，却怎么就访得我的主公来也？」

老君念個咒語，將扇子搧了一下，那怪將圈子丟來，被老君一把接住。Laojun recited a spell and gave one wave of his fan; the monster flung his ring at him, but Laojun caught it in a single grasp.又一搧，那怪物力軟筋麻，現了本相，原來是一隻青牛。He waved the fan once more, and the monster's strength went limp and his sinews went numb, and he reverted to his true form—it turned out to be a green ox.老君將金鋼琢吹口仙氣，穿了那怪的鼻子，解下勒袍帶，繫於琢上，牽在手中。Laojun blew a breath of immortal energy onto the Diamond Snare, pierced it through the monster's nose, undid the sash binding his robe, tied it to the Snare, and led him by hand.至今留下個拴牛鼻的拘兒，又名賓郎，職此之謂。Down to this very day the ring for tethering an ox's nose remains, also called a "binlang"—it is this very affair that gave rise to it.老君辭了眾神，跨上青牛背上，駕彩雲，徑歸兜率院；Laojun took his leave of the assembled gods, mounted astride the green ox's back, rode a colored cloud, and returned straight to the Tushita Court;縛妖怪，高昇離恨天。having bound the demon fast, he rose high into the Heaven of Sorrow-Parting.

老君念个咒语，将扇子扇了一下，那怪将圈子丢来，被老君一把接住。又一扇，那怪物力软筋麻，现了本相，原来是一只青牛。老君将金钢琢吹口仙气，穿了那怪的鼻子，解下勒袍带，系于琢上，牵在手中。至今留下个拴牛鼻的拘儿，又名宾郎，职此之谓。老君辞了众神，跨上青牛背上，驾彩云，径归兜率院；缚妖怪，高升离恨天。

孫大聖才同天王等眾打入洞裡，把那百十個小妖盡皆打死，各取兵器。Only then did the Great Sage Sun, together with the Heavenly King and the others, fight their way into the cave, killing all one hundred or so little demons, and each retrieved his own weapon.謝了天王父子回天，雷公入府，火德歸宮，水伯回河，羅漢向西。They thanked the Heavenly King and his son, who returned to Heaven; the Duke of Thunder went back to his residence, the God of Fire returned to his palace, the Lord of the Waters went back to his river, and the Luohan headed west.然後才解放唐僧、八戒、沙僧，拿了鐵棒。Only then did they free Tang Sanzang, Bajie, and Sha Wujing, and retrieve the iron cudgel.他三人又謝了行者，收拾馬匹、行裝，師徒們離洞，找大路方走。The three of them thanked Xingzhe once more, packed up the horse and the luggage, and master and disciples left the cave to find the main road and set off again.

孙大圣才同天王等众打入洞里，把那百十个小妖尽皆打死，各取兵器。谢了天王父子回天，雷公入府，火德归宫，水伯回河，罗汉向西。然后才解放唐僧、八戒、沙僧，拿了铁棒。他三人又谢了行者，收拾马匹、行装，师徒们离洞，找大路方走。

正走間，只聽得路傍叫：「唐聖僧，吃了齋飯去。」那長老心驚。Just as they were walking along, they suddenly heard a voice calling from beside the road: "Holy Monk Tang, stay and take a vegetarian meal before you go." The elder's heart was startled.
