卻說八戒跳下山，尋著一條小路。Now tell of Bajie, who leapt down the mountain and found a small path.依路前行，有五六里遠近，忽見二個女怪，在那井上打水。Following the path onward for some five or six li, he suddenly saw two female monsters drawing water at a well.他怎麼認得是兩個女怪，見他頭上戴一頂一尺二三寸高的篾絲䯼髻，甚不時興。How did he know they were female monsters? He saw that on their heads they wore split-bamboo chignons a foot and two or three inches high, quite out of fashion.獃子走近前，叫聲：「妖怪。」那怪聞言大怒，兩人互相說道：「這和尚憊懶，我們又不與他相識，平時又沒有調得嘴慣，他怎麼叫我們做妖怪？」那怪惱了，掄起擡水的杠子，劈頭就打。The idiot walked up close and called out, "Monsters!" Hearing this, the two spirits flew into a rage, and said to each other, "This monk is insolent — we've never even met him, and we've never been in the habit of trading loose talk with him, so how dare he call us monsters?" The spirits, enraged, swung up their water-carrying pole and struck straight at his head.

却说八戒跳下山，寻著一条小路。依路前行，有五六里远近，忽见二个女怪，在那井上打水。他怎么认得是两个女怪，见他头上戴一顶一尺二三寸高的篾丝䯼髻，甚不时兴。呆子走近前，叫声：「妖怪。」那怪闻言大怒，两人互相说道：「这和尚惫懒，我们又不与他相识，平时又没有调得嘴惯，他怎么叫我们做妖怪？」那怪恼了，抡起抬水的杠子，劈头就打。

這獃子手無兵器，遮架不得，被他撈了幾下，侮著頭跑上山來道：「哥啊，回去罷，妖怪兇。」行者道：「怎麼兇？」八戒道：「山凹內兩個女妖精在井上打水，我只叫了他一聲，就被他打了我三四杠子。」行者道：「你叫他做甚麼的？」八戒道：「我叫他做妖怪。」行者笑道：「打得還少。」八戒道：「謝你照顧。The idiot, with no weapon in hand, could not fend off the blows, and after taking several strokes he covered his head and ran back up the mountain, saying, "Brother, let's go back — the monsters are fierce." Xingzhe said, "Fierce how?" Bajie said, "Down in the mountain hollow two female spirits were drawing water at a well; I only called out to them once, and they gave me three or four blows with the pole." Xingzhe said, "What did you call them?" Bajie said, "I called them monsters." Xingzhe laughed and said, "You got off lightly." Bajie said, "Much obliged for your concern.頭都打腫了，還說少哩。」行者道：「溫柔天下去得，剛強寸步難移。My head is swollen from the beating, and you still say it was light." Xingzhe said, "Gentleness can get you anywhere under heaven; stubborn hardness can't move an inch.他們是此地之怪，我們是遠來之僧，你一身都是手，也要略溫存。They are spirits native to this place, while we are monks come from afar — you have hands all over your body, yet you can't manage a little courtesy.你就去叫他做妖怪，他不打你，打我？You went and called her a monster — why didn't she beat you instead of me?人將禮樂為先。」八戒道：「一發不曉得。」行者道：「你自幼在山中吃人，你曉得有兩樣木麼？」八戒道：「不知。When dealing with people, courtesy and harmony come first." Bajie said, "I understand it even less now." Xingzhe said, "You've eaten your fill of men in the mountains since childhood — do you know there are two kinds of wood?" Bajie said, "I don't know.是甚麼木？」行者道：「一樣是楊木，一樣是檀木。What kinds of wood?" Xingzhe said, "One is poplar wood, the other is sandalwood.楊木性格甚軟，巧匠取來，或雕聖像，或刻如來，裝金立粉，嵌玉裝花，萬人燒香禮拜，受了多少無量之福。Poplar wood is very soft in nature; a skilled craftsman takes it and carves it into a holy image, or into a figure of the Buddha, gilds it with gold and dusts it with powder, inlays it with jade and adorns it with flowers, and ten thousand people burn incense and bow before it, receiving immeasurable blessings.那檀木性格剛硬，油房裡取了去，做柞撒，使鐵箍箍了頭，又使鐵鎚往下打，只因剛強，所以受此苦楚。」八戒道：「哥啊，你這好話兒，早與我說說也好，卻不受他打了。」行者道：「你還去問他個端的。」八戒道：「這去他認得我了。」行者道：「你變化了去。」八戒道：「哥啊，且如我變了，卻怎麼問麼？」行者道：「你變了去，到他跟前，行個禮兒，看他多大年紀。Sandalwood, by nature, is hard and stubborn; taken to the oil press, it's made into a pressing beam, bound at the head with an iron hoop, and pounded down with an iron hammer — all because of its stubborn hardness, it suffers such torment." Bajie said, "Brother, if you'd told me these fine words earlier, it would have been just as well — I wouldn't have taken that beating." Xingzhe said, "Go and ask them properly this time." Bajie said, "If I go, they'll recognize me." Xingzhe said, "Transform yourself before you go." Bajie said, "Brother, even if I transform myself, how am I supposed to question them?" Xingzhe said, "Once you've transformed, go up to them, make a bow, and see how old they look.若與我們差不多，叫他聲『姑娘』；If they seem about our age, call them 'young lady';若比我們老些兒，叫他聲『奶奶』。」八戒笑道：「可是蹭蹬，這般許遠的田地，認得是甚麼親？」行者道：「不是認親，要套他的話哩。if they seem older than us, call them 'madam.'" Bajie laughed and said, "What a nuisance — coming all this way to some remote place, and now I have to figure out what to call them like kin?" Xingzhe said, "It's not about kinship — it's to draw out what they're saying.若是他拿了師父，就好下手；If it's them who've captured Master, we can act accordingly;若不是他，卻不誤了我們別處幹事？」八戒道：「說得有理，等我再去。」if it's not them, we mustn't waste our time and delay our business elsewhere." Bajie said, "That makes sense. Let me go again."

这呆子手无兵器，遮架不得，被他捞了几下，侮著头跑上山来道：「哥啊，回去罢，妖怪凶。」行者道：「怎么凶？」八戒道：「山凹内两个女妖精在井上打水，我只叫了他一声，就被他打了我三四杠子。」行者道：「你叫他做甚么的？」八戒道：「我叫他做妖怪。」行者笑道：「打得还少。」八戒道：「谢你照顾。头都打肿了，还说少哩。」行者道：「温柔天下去得，刚强寸步难移。他们是此地之怪，我们是远来之僧，你一身都是手，也要略温存。你就去叫他做妖怪，他不打你，打我？人将礼乐为先。」八戒道：「一发不晓得。」行者道：「你自幼在山中吃人，你晓得有两样木么？」八戒道：「不知。是甚么木？」行者道：「一样是杨木，一样是檀木。杨木性格甚软，巧匠取来，或雕圣像，或刻如来，装金立粉，嵌玉装花，万人烧香礼拜，受了多少无量之福。那檀木性格刚硬，油房里取了去，做柞撒，使铁箍箍了头，又使铁锤往下打，只因刚强，所以受此苦楚。」八戒道：「哥啊，你这好话儿，早与我说说也好，却不受他打了。」行者道：「你还去问他个端的。」八戒道：「这去他认得我了。」行者道：「你变化了去。」八戒道：「哥啊，且如我变了，却怎么问么？」行者道：「你变了去，到他跟前，行个礼儿，看他多大年纪。若与我们差不多，叫他声『姑娘』；若比我们老些儿，叫他声『奶奶』。」八戒笑道：「可是蹭蹬，这般许远的田地，认得是甚么亲？」行者道：「不是认亲，要套他的话哩。若是他拿了师父，就好下手；若不是他，却不误了我们别处干事？」八戒道：「说得有理，等我再去。」

好獃子，把釘鈀撒在腰裡，下山凹，搖身一變，變做個黑胖和尚。Good idiot — he tucked his rake into his waistband, went down into the mountain hollow, gave his body a shake, and turned himself into a swarthy, plump monk.搖搖擺擺，走近怪前，深深唱個大喏道：「奶奶，貧僧稽首了。」那兩個喜道：「這個和尚卻好，會唱個喏兒，又會稱道一聲兒。」問道：「長老，那裡來的？」八戒道：「那裡來的。」又問：「那裡去的？」又道：「那裡去的。」又問：「你叫做甚麼名字？」又答道：「我叫做甚麼名字。」那怪笑道：「這和尚好便好，只是沒來歷，會說順口話兒。」八戒道：「奶奶，你們打水怎的？」那怪道：「和尚，你不知道，我家老夫人今夜裡攝了一個唐僧在洞內，要管待他，我洞中水不乾淨，差我兩個來此打這陰陽交媾的好水，安排素果素菜的筵席，與唐僧吃了，晚間要成親哩。」Swaying along, he walked up close to the spirits and bowed deeply with a greeting, saying, "Madam, this poor monk pays his respects." The two spirits said happily, "This monk is quite nice — he knows how to bow and how to address us properly." They asked, "Elder, where have you come from?" Bajie said, "From there I've come." They asked again, "Where are you going?" He said again, "There I am going." They asked again, "What is your name?" He answered again, "That is my name." The spirits laughed and said, "This monk is nice enough, but he has no substance — he just parrots back whatever's said." Bajie said, "Madam, why are you drawing water?" The spirit said, "Monk, you don't know — our old mistress captured a Tang monk into the cave last night, and wants to entertain him properly. Our cave's water isn't clean, so she sent the two of us here to fetch this fine water where yin and yang converge, to prepare a feast of vegetarian fruits and dishes for the Tang monk to eat, and tonight they are to be wed."

好呆子，把钉钯撒在腰里，下山凹，摇身一变，变做个黑胖和尚。摇摇摆摆，走近怪前，深深唱个大喏道：「奶奶，贫僧稽首了。」那两个喜道：「这个和尚却好，会唱个喏儿，又会称道一声儿。」问道：「长老，那里来的？」八戒道：「那里来的。」又问：「那里去的？」又道：「那里去的。」又问：「你叫做甚么名字？」又答道：「我叫做甚么名字。」那怪笑道：「这和尚好便好，只是没来历，会说顺口话儿。」八戒道：「奶奶，你们打水怎的？」那怪道：「和尚，你不知道，我家老夫人今夜里摄了一个唐僧在洞内，要管待他，我洞中水不干净，差我两个来此打这阴阳交媾的好水，安排素果素菜的筵席，与唐僧吃了，晚间要成亲哩。」

那獃子聞此言，急抽身跑上山，叫：「沙和尚，快拿將行李來，我們分了罷。」沙僧道：「二哥，又分怎的？」八戒道：「分了，便你還去流沙河吃人，我去高老莊探親，哥哥去花果山稱聖，白龍馬歸大海成龍。Hearing this, the idiot hastily turned and ran back up the mountain, calling out, "Sha Wujing, quick, bring the luggage — let's divide it up and go our separate ways." Sha Seng said, "Second brother, why divide things up again?" Bajie said, "Once divided, you can go back to the Flowing Sand River and eat people, I'll go to Gao Village to visit my in-laws, big brother can go to Flower-Fruit Mountain and proclaim himself a sage, and the White Dragon Horse can return to the sea and become a dragon again.師父已在這妖精洞內成親哩，我們都各安生理去也。」行者道：「這獃子又胡說了。」八戒道：「你的兒子胡說。Master is already getting married inside that monster's cave — let's each go make our own living." Xingzhe said, "This idiot is talking nonsense again." Bajie said, "Your own son talks nonsense.才那兩個擡水的妖精說，安排素筵席與唐僧吃了成親哩。」行者道：「那妖精把師父困在洞裡，師父眼巴巴的望我們去救，你卻在此說這樣話。」八戒道：「怎麼救？」行者道：「你兩個牽著馬，挑著擔，我們跟著那兩個女怪，做個引子，引到那門前，一齊下手。」Just now those two spirits carrying water said they were preparing a vegetarian feast for the Tang monk to eat before the wedding." Xingzhe said, "The spirit has Master trapped in her cave, and Master is anxiously hoping we'll come save him, yet here you are saying such things." Bajie said, "Then how do we save him?" Xingzhe said, "The two of you lead the horse and carry the luggage; we'll follow those two female spirits as a lead, and let them guide us to the gate, then we'll all strike together."

那呆子闻此言，急抽身跑上山，叫：「沙和尚，快拿将行李来，我们分了罢。」沙僧道：「二哥，又分怎的？」八戒道：「分了，便你还去流沙河吃人，我去高老庄探亲，哥哥去花果山称圣，白龙马归大海成龙。师父已在这妖精洞内成亲哩，我们都各安生理去也。」行者道：「这呆子又胡说了。」八戒道：「你的儿子胡说。才那两个抬水的妖精说，安排素筵席与唐僧吃了成亲哩。」行者道：「那妖精把师父困在洞里，师父眼巴巴的望我们去救，你却在此说这样话。」八戒道：「怎么救？」行者道：「你两个牵著马，挑著担，我们跟著那两个女怪，做个引子，引到那门前，一齐下手。」

真個獃子只得隨行。Sure enough, the idiot had no choice but to follow along.行者遠遠的標著那兩怪，漸入深山，有一二十里遠近，忽然不見。Xingzhe kept the two spirits marked from a distance as they went deeper into the mountains, and after some ten or twenty li, they suddenly vanished from sight.八戒驚道：「師父是日裡鬼拿去了。」行者道：「你好眼力，怎麼就看出他本相來？」八戒道：「那兩個怪正擡著水走，忽然不見，卻不是個日裡鬼？」行者道：「想是鑽進洞去了。Bajie said in alarm, "Master must have been taken by a daytime ghost!" Xingzhe said, "What sharp eyes you have — how could you tell their true form so quickly?" Bajie said, "Those two spirits were just now carrying water and walking along, and suddenly vanished — isn't that exactly a daytime ghost?" Xingzhe said, "They must have gone into a cave.等我去看。」Let me go take a look."

真个呆子只得随行。行者远远的标著那两怪，渐入深山，有一二十里远近，忽然不见。八戒惊道：「师父是日里鬼拿去了。」行者道：「你好眼力，怎么就看出他本相来？」八戒道：「那两个怪正抬著水走，忽然不见，却不是个日里鬼？」行者道：「想是钻进洞去了。等我去看。」

好大聖，急睜火眼金睛，漫山看處，果然不見動靜。Good Great Sage — he quickly opened wide his fiery golden eyes and scanned the whole mountainside, but indeed saw no sign of movement.只見那陡崖前，有一座玲瓏剔透細妝花、堆五采、三簷四簇的牌樓。Then he saw, before a steep cliff, an archway intricately carved and finely adorned with flowers, piled with five colors, with three eaves and four clusters of roofs.他與八戒、沙僧近前觀看，上有六個大字，乃「陷空山無底洞」。He and Bajie and Sha Seng went up close to look, and saw six large characters above: "Bottomless Cave of Xiankong Mountain."行者道：「兄弟呀，這妖精把個架子支在這裡，還不知門向那裡開哩。」沙僧說：「不遠，不遠，好生尋。」都轉身看時，牌樓下，山腳下有一塊大石，約有十餘里方圓，正中間有缸口大的一個洞兒，爬得光溜溜的。Xingzhe said, "Brothers, this monster has set up this facade here, but we still don't know which way the entrance faces." Sha Seng said, "It can't be far — let's search carefully." They all turned to look, and beneath the archway, at the foot of the mountain, there was a great rock, some ten-odd li in circumference, and right in the middle was a hole the size of a jar's mouth, worn smooth and slick.八戒道：「哥啊，這就是妖精出入洞也。」行者看了道：「怪哉！Bajie said, "Brother, this must be the opening the monster uses to come and go." Xingzhe looked at it and said, "Strange!我老孫自保唐僧，瞞不得你兩個，妖精也拿了些，卻不見這樣洞府。Old Monkey has escorted the Tang monk and dealt with more than a few monsters along the way — nothing has escaped me — and yet I've never seen a cave-dwelling of this sort.八戒，你先下去試試，看有多少淺深，我好進去救師父。」八戒搖頭道：「這個難，這個難。Bajie, go down first and test it, and see how deep it is, so I can go in and rescue Master." Bajie shook his head and said, "This is hard, this is hard.我老豬身子夯夯的，若塌了腳吊下去，不知二三年可得到底哩。」行者道：「就有多深麼？」八戒道：「你看。」大聖伏在洞邊上，仔細往下看處，咦！My old hog body is heavy and clumsy — if my foot slipped and I fell down, who knows if it'd take two or three years to reach the bottom." Xingzhe said, "Is it really that deep?" Bajie said, "See for yourself." The Great Sage lay flat at the edge of the hole and looked carefully down into it — my! —深啊，周圍足有三百餘里。deep indeed, a good three hundred-odd li around.回頭道：「兄弟，果然深得緊。」八戒道：「你便回去罷，師父救不得耶。」行者道：「你說那裡話？Turning his head, he said, "Brother, it truly is exceedingly deep." Bajie said, "Then you'd best go back — there's no saving Master." Xingzhe said, "What kind of talk is that?莫生懶惰意，休起怠荒心。Don't let laziness take hold, don't let a slack heart arise.且將行李歇下，把馬拴在牌樓柱上。Set the luggage down for now, and tie the horse to a pillar of the archway.你使釘鈀，沙僧使杖，攔住洞門，讓我進去打聽打聽。You use your rake and Sha Seng his staff, and guard the cave entrance, while I go in to reconnoiter.若師父果在裡面，我將鐵棒把妖精從裡打出，跑至門口，你兩個卻在外面擋住：這是裡應外合。If Master really is inside, I'll use my iron rod to beat the monster from within, out to the mouth of the cave, while the two of you block the way from outside: this will be an inside-outside pincer.打死精靈，才救得師父。」二人遵命。Once the spirit is beaten to death, only then can Master be saved." The two of them obeyed.

好大圣，急睁火眼金睛，漫山看处，果然不见动静。只见那陡崖前，有一座玲珑剔透细妆花、堆五采、三簷四簇的牌楼。他与八戒、沙僧近前观看，上有六个大字，乃「陷空山无底洞」。行者道：「兄弟呀，这妖精把个架子支在这里，还不知门向那里开哩。」沙僧说：「不远，不远，好生寻。」都转身看时，牌楼下，山脚下有一块大石，约有十余里方圆，正中间有缸口大的一个洞儿，爬得光溜溜的。八戒道：「哥啊，这就是妖精出入洞也。」行者看了道：「怪哉！我老孙自保唐僧，瞒不得你两个，妖精也拿了些，却不见这样洞府。八戒，你先下去试试，看有多少浅深，我好进去救师父。」八戒摇头道：「这个难，这个难。我老猪身子夯夯的，若塌了脚吊下去，不知二三年可得到底哩。」行者道：「就有多深么？」八戒道：「你看。」大圣伏在洞边上，仔细往下看处，咦！深啊，周围足有三百余里。回头道：「兄弟，果然深得紧。」八戒道：「你便回去罢，师父救不得耶。」行者道：「你说那里话？莫生懒惰意，休起怠荒心。且将行李歇下，把马拴在牌楼柱上。你使钉钯，沙僧使杖，拦住洞门，让我进去打听打听。若师父果在里面，我将铁棒把妖精从里打出，跑至门口，你两个却在外面挡住：这是里应外合。打死精灵，才救得师父。」二人遵命。

行者卻將身一縱，跳入洞中，足下彩雲生萬道，身邊瑞氣護千層。Xingzhe then gave his body a leap and jumped into the hole; beneath his feet ten thousand strands of colored cloud arose, and around his body auspicious vapors formed a thousand layers of protection.不多時，到於深遠之間，那裡邊明明朗朗，一般的有日色，有風聲，又有花草果木。Before long, he reached a deep and distant place, where it was bright and clear inside, just as though there were sunlight, the sound of wind, and even flowers, grasses, and fruit trees.行者喜道：「好去處啊！Xingzhe said happily, "What a fine place!想老孫出世，天賜與水簾洞，這裡也是個洞天福地。」正看時，又有一座二滴水的門樓，團團都是松竹，內有許多房舍。I recall that when Old Monkey was born, Heaven bestowed the Water Curtain Cave upon me — this too is a blessed cave-heaven." As he was looking about, he saw another gate tower with double eaves, all surrounded by pines and bamboo, with many buildings inside.又想道：「此必是妖精的住處了。He thought again, "This must surely be the monster's dwelling.我且到裡邊去打聽打聽。Let me go inside and listen around a bit.且住。Wait a moment.若是這般去啊，他認得我了。If I go in like this, she'll recognize me.且變化了去。」搖身捻訣，就變做個蒼蠅兒，輕輕的飛在門樓上聽聽。Better to transform before going in." 行者却将身一纵，跳入洞中，足下彩云生万道，身边瑞气护千层。不多时，到于深远之间，那里边明明朗朗，一般的有日色，有风声，又有花草果木。行者喜道：「好去处啊！想老孙出世，天赐与水帘洞，这里也是个洞天福地。」正看时，又有一座二滴水的门楼，团团都是松竹，内有许多房舍。又想道：「此必是妖精的住处了。我且到里边去打听打听。且住。若是这般去啊，他认得我了。且变化了去。」摇身捻诀，就变做个苍蝇儿，轻轻的飞在门楼上听听。只见那怪高坐在草亭内，他那模样，比在松林里救他，寺里拿他，便是不同，越发打扮得俊了：

行者且不言語，聽他說甚話。Xingzhe said nothing for now, listening to hear what she would say.少時，綻破櫻桃，喜孜孜的叫道：「小的們，快排素筵席來，我與唐僧哥哥吃了成親。」行者暗笑道：「真個有這話！After a while, she parted her cherry lips and called out gleefully, "Little ones, quickly set out the vegetarian feast — Brother Tang Monk and I are to eat and then be wed." Xingzhe laughed to himself, "So it's really true!我只道八戒作耍子亂說哩。I thought Bajie was just making mischief with nonsense.等我且飛進去尋尋，看師父在那裡。Let me fly in and search around, to see where Master is.不知他的心性如何？I wonder what frame of mind he's in?假若被他摩弄動了啊，留他在這裡也罷。」即展翅，飛到裡邊看處，那東廊下上明下暗的紅紙格子裡面，坐著唐僧哩。If he's been swayed and moved by her, well, I'll just leave him here." So saying, he spread his wings and flew inside to look, and there, beneath the east corridor, in a room with red-paper lattice windows, bright above and dim below, sat the Tang monk.

行者且不言语，听他说甚话。少时，绽破樱桃，喜孜孜的叫道：「小的们，快排素筵席来，我与唐僧哥哥吃了成亲。」行者暗笑道：「真个有这话！我只道八戒作耍子乱说哩。等我且飞进去寻寻，看师父在那里。不知他的心性如何？假若被他摩弄动了啊，留他在这里也罢。」即展翅，飞到里边看处，那东廊下上明下暗的红纸格子里面，坐著唐僧哩。

行者一頭撞破格子眼，飛在唐僧光頭上丁著，叫聲：「師父。」三藏認得聲音，叫道：「徒弟，救我命啊！」行者道：「師父不濟呀，那妖精安排筵宴，與你吃了成親哩。Xingzhe butted his way through a hole in the lattice window and flew to land squarely atop Tang Seng's bald head, calling out, "Master." Sanzang recognized the voice and cried, "Disciple, save my life!" Xingzhe said, "Master, this won't do — the spirit has prepared a banquet, and once you've eaten it, you're to be wed to her.或生下一男半女，也是你和尚之後代，你愁怎的？」長老聞言，咬牙切齒道：「徒弟，我自出了長安，到兩界山中收你，一向西來，那個時辰動葷？If you happen to have a son or a daughter by her, well, that would be your monk's own descendant — why worry about that?" Hearing this, the elder gnashed his teeth and said, "Disciple, ever since I left Chang'an, took you in at Liangjie Mountain, and journeyed west, when have I ever eaten meat at the wrong hour?那一日子有甚歪意？When has there ever been a crooked thought in me?今被這妖精拿住，要求配偶，我若把真陽喪了，我就身墮輪迴，打在那陰山背後，永世不得翻身。」行者笑道：「莫發誓。Now that this monster has caught me and demands to be my mate — if I lose my true masculine essence, I shall fall into the cycle of reincarnation, cast down behind the dark mountains of hell, never to rise again for all eternity." Xingzhe laughed and said, "Don't make oaths.既有真心往西天取經，老孫帶你去罷。」三藏道：「進來的路兒，我通忘了。」行者道：「莫說你忘了。Since you truly mean to go to the Western Heaven for the scriptures, Old Monkey will take you out of here." Sanzang said, "I've completely forgotten the way I came in." Xingzhe said, "Never mind that you've forgotten.他這洞，不比走進來走出去的，是打上頭往下鑽。This cave isn't like ones you walk in and out of — it's bored straight down from the top.如今救了你，要打底下往上鑽。Now, to save you, we'll have to bore straight up from the bottom.若是造化高，鑽著洞口兒，就出去了；If your fortune is good, you'll bore right to the opening and get out;若是造化低，鑽不著，還有個悶殺的日子了。」三藏滿眼垂淚道：「似此艱難，怎生是好？」行者道：「沒事，沒事。if your fortune is poor and you can't find the opening, there'll be quite a miserable, suffocating time ahead." Sanzang, tears brimming in his eyes, said, "Given such hardship, what's to be done?" Xingzhe said, "No matter, no matter.那妖精整治酒與你吃，沒奈何，也吃他一鍾。When the spirit prepares wine for you to drink, there's nothing for it — just drink one cup with her.只要斟得急些兒，斟起一個喜花兒來，等我變作個蟭蟟蟲兒，飛在酒泡之下。Only make sure she pours it quickly, so that it froths up a cup of bubbles, and I'll turn myself into a tiny gnat and fly down beneath the bubbles.他把我一口吞下肚去，我就捻破他的心肝，扯斷他的腸肚，弄死那妖精，你才得脫身出去。」三藏道：「徒弟，這等說，只是不當人子。」行者道：「只管行起善來，你命休矣。When she swallows me down with the wine into her belly, I'll pinch and tear apart her heart and liver, rip out her intestines, and kill the monster off — only then will you be able to get free and out of here." Sanzang said, "Disciple, put that way, it's simply not humane." Xingzhe said, "If you keep insisting on being kind and good, your life will be finished.妖精乃害人之根，你惜他怎的？」三藏道：「也罷，也罷。The monster is the root of harm to people — why pity her?" Sanzang said, "Very well, very well.你只是要跟著我。」正是：Just be sure to stay close by me." Indeed:

行者一头撞破格子眼，飞在唐僧光头上丁著，叫声：「师父。」三藏认得声音，叫道：「徒弟，救我命啊！」行者道：「师父不济呀，那妖精安排筵宴，与你吃了成亲哩。或生下一男半女，也是你和尚之后代，你愁怎的？」长老闻言，咬牙切齿道：「徒弟，我自出了长安，到两界山中收你，一向西来，那个时辰动荤？那一日子有甚歪意？今被这妖精拿住，要求配偶，我若把真阳丧了，我就身堕轮回，打在那阴山背后，永世不得翻身。」行者笑道：「莫发誓。既有真心往西天取经，老孙带你去罢。」三藏道：「进来的路儿，我通忘了。」行者道：「莫说你忘了。他这洞，不比走进来走出去的，是打上头往下钻。如今救了你，要打底下往上钻。若是造化高，钻著洞口儿，就出去了；若是造化低，钻不著，还有个闷杀的日子了。」三藏满眼垂泪道：「似此艰难，怎生是好？」行者道：「没事，没事。那妖精整治酒与你吃，没奈何，也吃他一钟。只要斟得急些儿，斟起一个喜花儿来，等我变作个蟭蟟虫儿，飞在酒泡之下。他把我一口吞下肚去，我就捻破他的心肝，扯断他的肠肚，弄死那妖精，你才得脱身出去。」三藏道：「徒弟，这等说，只是不当人子。」行者道：「只管行起善来，你命休矣。妖精乃害人之根，你惜他怎的？」三藏道：「也罢，也罢。你只是要跟著我。」正是：

他師徒兩個商量未了，早是那妖精安排停當，走近東廊外，開了門鎖，叫聲：「長老。」唐僧不敢答應。Before master and disciple had finished discussing this, the monster had already made her preparations, and walked over outside the east corridor, unlocked the door, and called out, "Elder." Tang Seng dared not answer.又叫一聲，又不敢答應。She called again, and still he dared not answer.他不敢答應者何意？Why did he not dare answer?想著：「口開神氣散，舌動是非生。」卻又一條心兒想著：「若死住法兒不開口，只怕他心狠，頃刻間就害了性命。」正是那進退兩難心問口，三思忍耐口問心。He thought to himself: "Open the mouth and the spirit leaks out; move the tongue and trouble arises." Yet another thought came to him: "If I stubbornly refuse to open my mouth, I fear she may turn vicious and take my life in an instant." Truly it was a case of the heart questioning the mouth, caught between two hard choices, and the mouth, after much deliberation, questioning the heart in return.正自狐疑，那怪又叫一聲：「長老。」唐僧沒奈何，應他一聲道：「娘子，有。」那長老應出這一句言來，真是肉落千斤。Just as he was caught in this uncertainty, the spirit called out once more: "Elder." Tang Seng had no choice but to answer, "My lady, yes?" When the elder uttered this single line, it truly felt as if a thousand pounds of flesh had dropped from him.人都說唐僧是個真心的和尚，往西天拜佛求經，怎麼與這女妖精答話？Everyone says Tang Seng is a monk of true and sincere heart, going to the Western Heaven to worship the Buddha and seek the scriptures — how could he exchange words with this female spirit?不知此時正是危急存亡之際，萬分出於無奈，雖是外有所答，其實內無所慾。Little did they know that at this moment of utmost peril, he had absolutely no choice — though outwardly he gave an answer, inwardly he harbored no desire at all.妖精見長老應了一聲，他推開門，把唐僧攙起來，和他攜手挨背，交頭接耳。Seeing the elder had answered, the spirit pushed the door open and helped Tang Seng to his feet, and walked arm in arm with him, shoulder brushing shoulder, whispering into his ear.你看他做出那千般嬌態，萬種風情。Just look at her, putting on every manner of coquettish charm and a thousand kinds of amorous airs.豈知三藏一腔子煩惱。Little did she know that Sanzang's heart was filled with nothing but distress.行者暗中笑道：「我師父被他這般哄誘，只怕一時動心。」正是：Xingzhe laughed secretly to himself, "My master, being coaxed and enticed like this — I'm afraid his heart might waver for a moment." Indeed:

他师徒两个商量未了，早是那妖精安排停当，走近东廊外，开了门锁，叫声：「长老。」唐僧不敢答应。又叫一声，又不敢答应。他不敢答应者何意？想著：「口开神气散，舌动是非生。」却又一条心儿想著：「若死住法儿不开口，只怕他心狠，顷刻间就害了性命。」正是那进退两难心问口，三思忍耐口问心。正自狐疑，那怪又叫一声：「长老。」唐僧没奈何，应他一声道：「娘子，有。」那长老应出这一句言来，真是肉落千斤。人都说唐僧是个真心的和尚，往西天拜佛求经，怎么与这女妖精答话？不知此时正是危急存亡之际，万分出于无奈，虽是外有所答，其实内无所欲。妖精见长老应了一声，他推开门，把唐僧搀起来，和他携手挨背，交头接耳。你看他做出那千般娇态，万种风情。岂知三藏一腔子烦恼。行者暗中笑道：「我师父被他这般哄诱，只怕一时动心。」正是：

妖精挽著三藏，行近草亭道：「長老，我辦了一杯酒，和你酌酌。」唐僧道：「娘子，貧僧自不用葷。」妖精道：「我知你不吃葷，因洞中水不潔淨，特命山頭上取陰陽交媾的淨水，做些素果素菜筵席，和你耍子。」唐僧跟他進去觀看，果然見那：The spirit, holding Sanzang's arm, walked close to the thatched pavilion and said, "Elder, I've prepared a cup of wine — let's have a drink together." Tang Seng said, "My lady, this poor monk never touches meat or wine on my own." The spirit said, "I know you don't eat meat, so because the water in the cave wasn't clean, I especially had someone fetch the pure water where yin and yang converge from the mountaintop, and prepared a feast of vegetarian fruits and dishes, to enjoy with you." Tang Seng followed her in to look, and indeed he saw:

妖精挽著三藏，行近草亭道：「长老，我办了一杯酒，和你酌酌。」唐僧道：「娘子，贫僧自不用荤。」妖精道：「我知你不吃荤，因洞中水不洁净，特命山头上取阴阳交媾的净水，做些素果素菜筵席，和你耍子。」唐僧跟他进去观看，果然见那：

那妖精露尖尖之玉指，捧晃晃之金杯，滿斟美酒，遞與唐僧，口裡叫道：「長老哥哥，妙人，請一杯交歡酒兒。」三藏羞答答的接了酒，望空澆奠，心中暗祝道：「護法諸天、五方揭諦、四值功曹：弟子陳玄奘，自離東土，蒙觀世音菩薩差遣列位眾神暗中保護，拜雷音，見佛求經，今在途中，被妖精拿住，強逼成親，將這一杯酒遞與我吃。The spirit bared her slender jade fingers, held up a gleaming golden cup, poured it full of fine wine, and handed it to Tang Seng, calling out, "Elder brother, my dear wonderful one, please take this cup of union wine." Sanzang, blushing with shame, took the cup, poured a libation into the air, and silently prayed in his heart: "Guardian devas of the Dharma, Ushers of the Five Directions, Officers of the Four Watches: your disciple Chen Xuanzang, ever since leaving the Tang land, entrusted by the Bodhisattva Guanyin to your hidden protection, am on my way to bow at Vulture Peak and seek the scriptures from the Buddha. Now, along the road, I have been captured by a monster who forces marriage upon me, and hands me this cup of wine to drink.此酒果是素酒，弟子勉強吃了，還得見佛成功；If this wine is truly vegetarian, your disciple will force himself to drink it, and still be able to see the Buddha and accomplish his task;若是葷酒，破了弟子之戒，永墮輪迴苦。」孫大聖，他卻變得輕巧，在耳根後，若像一個耳報；but if it is wine made with meat, it will break your disciple's vows, and he will fall forever into the suffering of the cycle of rebirth." The Great Sage Sun, meanwhile, had transformed himself into something small and nimble, and hovered right behind Tang Seng's ear, like a whisper in his ear;但他說話，惟三藏聽見，別人不聞。but when he spoke, only Sanzang could hear him — no one else could.他知師父平日好吃葡萄做的素酒，教吃他一鍾。Knowing Master was fond, in ordinary times, of the vegetarian wine made from grapes, he told him to drink that cup.那師父沒奈何吃了，急將酒滿斟一鍾，回與妖怪。The elder, having no choice, drank it, and hastily poured the cup full again, and handed it back to the monster.果然斟起有一個喜花兒。Sure enough, the pouring raised a froth of bubbles on top.行者變作個蟭蟟蟲兒，輕輕的飛入喜花之下。Xingzhe transformed himself into a tiny gnat, and flew lightly down beneath the bubbles.那妖精接在手，且不吃，把杯兒放住，與唐僧拜了兩拜，口裡嬌嬌怯怯，敘了幾句情話。The spirit took the cup in hand but did not drink at once — she set the cup down, bowed twice to Tang Seng, and, speaking in a coy and coquettish voice, exchanged a few words of tender feeling with him.卻才舉杯，那花兒已散，就露出蟲來。Just as she raised the cup to drink, the froth had already dispersed, revealing the tiny insect within.妖精也認不得是行者變的，只以為蟲兒，用小指挑起，往下一彈。The spirit did not recognize it as Xingzhe transformed, and simply thought it was an insect; she flicked it up with her little finger and flung it downward.

那妖精露尖尖之玉指，捧晃晃之金杯，满斟美酒，递与唐僧，口里叫道：「长老哥哥，妙人，请一杯交欢酒儿。」三藏羞答答的接了酒，望空浇奠，心中暗祝道：「护法诸天、五方揭谛、四值功曹：弟子陈玄奘，自离东土，蒙观世音菩萨差遣列位众神暗中保护，拜雷音，见佛求经，今在途中，被妖精拿住，强逼成亲，将这一杯酒递与我吃。此酒果是素酒，弟子勉强吃了，还得见佛成功；若是荤酒，破了弟子之戒，永堕轮回苦。」孙大圣，他却变得轻巧，在耳根后，若像一个耳报；但他说话，惟三藏听见，别人不闻。他知师父平日好吃葡萄做的素酒，教吃他一钟。那师父没奈何吃了，急将酒满斟一钟，回与妖怪。果然斟起有一个喜花儿。行者变作个蟭蟟虫儿，轻轻的飞入喜花之下。那妖精接在手，且不吃，把杯儿放住，与唐僧拜了两拜，口里娇娇怯怯，叙了几句情话。却才举杯，那花儿已散，就露出虫来。妖精也认不得是行者变的，只以为虫儿，用小指挑起，往下一弹。

行者見事不諧，料難入他腹，即變做個餓老鷹。Seeing that things were not going as planned, and reckoning it would be hard to get into her belly, Xingzhe at once transformed himself into a starving eagle.真個是：Truly it was thus:

行者见事不谐，料难入他腹，即变做个饿老鹰。真个是：

飛起來，掄開玉爪，響一聲，掀翻桌席，把些素果素菜，盤碟壺爵，盡皆捽碎，撇卻唐僧，飛將出去。Soaring up, he spread wide his jade talons, and with a single crash, overturned the table and all the dishes, smashing to pieces all the vegetarian fruits and dishes, the plates and platters, cups and vessels, and, leaving Tang Seng behind, flew straight out.諕得妖精心膽皆裂，唐僧亦骨肉通酥。This so terrified the spirit that her very soul was shattered, and Tang Seng too felt his flesh and bones turn to jelly with fright.妖精戰戰兢兢，摟住唐僧道：「長老哥哥，此物是那裡來的？」三藏道：「貧僧不知。」妖怪道：「我費了許多心，安排這個素宴與你耍耍，卻不知這個扁毛畜生從那裡飛來，把我的家火打碎。」眾小妖道：「夫人，打碎家火猶可，將些素品都潑散在地，穢了怎用？」三藏分明曉得是行者弄法，他那裡敢說。Trembling all over, the spirit embraced Tang Seng and said, "Elder brother, where did that creature come from?" Sanzang said, "This poor monk does not know." The monster said, "I went to such trouble to prepare this vegetarian feast to enjoy with you, and who would have thought this feather-covered brute would fly in from nowhere and smash all my utensils to pieces." The little spirits said, "Madam, smashing the utensils is one thing, but the vegetarian dishes have all been spilled and scattered on the ground — filthy now, how can they be used?" Tang Seng understood clearly that this was Xingzhe working his magic, but how could he dare say so.那妖精道：「小的們，我知道了：想必是我把唐僧困住，天地不容，故降此物。The spirit said, "Little ones, now I understand: it must be that, by trapping the Tang monk here, I have offended Heaven and Earth, and so this creature was sent down as a punishment.你們將碎家火拾出去，另安排些酒餚，不拘葷素，我指天為媒，指地作訂，然後再與唐僧成親。」依然把長老送在東廊裡坐下不題。Take the broken utensils away, and prepare more wine and dishes, meat or vegetarian, it doesn't matter — I shall take Heaven as matchmaker and Earth as witness, and then complete the marriage with the Tang monk." And so, as before, she had the elder sent back to sit in the east corridor — but no more of that for now.

飞起来，抡开玉爪，响一声，掀翻桌席，把些素果素菜，盘碟壶爵，尽皆捽碎，撇却唐僧，飞将出去。諕得妖精心胆皆裂，唐僧亦骨肉通酥。妖精战战兢兢，搂住唐僧道：「长老哥哥，此物是那里来的？」三藏道：「贫僧不知。」妖怪道：「我费了许多心，安排这个素宴与你耍耍，却不知这个扁毛畜生从那里飞来，把我的家火打碎。」众小妖道：「夫人，打碎家火犹可，将些素品都泼散在地，秽了怎用？」三藏分明晓得是行者弄法，他那里敢说。那妖精道：「小的们，我知道了：想必是我把唐僧困住，天地不容，故降此物。你们将碎家火拾出去，另安排些酒肴，不拘荤素，我指天为媒，指地作订，然后再与唐僧成亲。」依然把长老送在东廊里坐下不题。

卻說行者飛出去，現了本相，到於洞口，叫聲：「開門！」八戒笑道：「沙僧，哥哥來了。」他二人撒開兵器。Now tell of Xingzhe, who flew out, resumed his true form, and arrived at the mouth of the cave, calling out, "Open up!" Bajie laughed, "Sha Seng, big brother is here." The two of them lowered their weapons.行者跳出，八戒上前扯住道：「可有妖精？Xingzhe leapt out, and Bajie rushed up and grabbed hold of him, saying, "Are there monsters?可有師父？」行者道：「有有有。」八戒道：「師父在裡邊受罪哩，綁著是綑著？Is Master there?" Xingzhe said, "Yes, yes, yes." Bajie said, "Is Master suffering in there — is he tied up or bound?要蒸是要煮？」行者道：「這個事倒沒有，只是安排素宴，要與他幹那個事哩。」八戒道：「你造化，你造化，你吃了陪親酒來了？」行者道：「獃子啊，師父的性命也難保，吃甚麼陪親酒？」八戒道：「你怎的就來了？」行者把見唐僧施變化的上項事說了一遍。Are they going to steam him or boil him?" Xingzhe said, "None of that, actually — they've only prepared a vegetarian feast, wanting to do that business with him." Bajie said, "What luck, what luck — did you come back after drinking the toasting wine at the wedding?" Xingzhe said, "Idiot, Master's very life is hardly safe — what toasting wine would I drink?" Bajie said, "Then how did you get out so soon?" Xingzhe then related in full how he had seen Tang Seng and worked his transformations.道：「兄弟們，再休胡思亂想。Then he said, "Brothers, no more wild and foolish thinking.師父已在此間，老孫這一去，一定救他出來。」Master is already in there, and this time when Old Monkey goes, I will surely bring him out."

却说行者飞出去，现了本相，到于洞口，叫声：「开门！」八戒笑道：「沙僧，哥哥来了。」他二人撒开兵器。行者跳出，八戒上前扯住道：「可有妖精？可有师父？」行者道：「有有有。」八戒道：「师父在里边受罪哩，绑著是捆著？要蒸是要煮？」行者道：「这个事倒没有，只是安排素宴，要与他干那个事哩。」八戒道：「你造化，你造化，你吃了陪亲酒来了？」行者道：「呆子啊，师父的性命也难保，吃甚么陪亲酒？」八戒道：「你怎的就来了？」行者把见唐僧施变化的上项事说了一遍。道：「兄弟们，再休胡思乱想。师父已在此间，老孙这一去，一定救他出来。」

復翻身入裡面，還變做個蒼蠅兒，丁在門樓上聽之。He turned himself over and went back inside again, once more transforming into a fly, and landed on the gate tower to listen.只聞得這妖怪氣呼呼的，在亭子上吩咐：「小的們，不論葷素，拿來燒紙。He heard only that the monster, huffing with anger, was giving orders in the pavilion: "Little ones, meat or vegetarian, no matter, just bring it and burn the paper offerings.借煩天地為媒訂，務要與他成親。」行者聽見，暗笑道：「這妖精全沒一些兒廉恥，青天白日的，把個和尚關在家裡擺佈。I shall trouble Heaven and Earth to serve as matchmakers, and see to it that I am wed to him." Hearing this, Xingzhe laughed to himself, "This monster has not a shred of shame — in broad daylight, keeping a monk locked up at home to toy with him.且不要忙，等老孫再進去看看。」嚶的一聲，飛在東廊之下，只見那師父坐在裡邊，清滴滴腮邊淚淌。No need to rush — let Old Monkey go in and take another look." With a buzz, he flew down beneath the east corridor, and saw Master sitting inside, tears streaming coldly down his cheeks.行者鑽將進去，丁在他頭上，又叫聲：「師父。」長老認得聲音，跳起來，咬牙恨道：「猢猻啊，別人膽大，還是身包膽；Xingzhe bored his way in, landed atop his head, and called out again, "Master." The elder recognized the voice, sprang up, and said, gnashing his teeth in resentment, "You monkey — other people are bold because their bodies contain their courage;你的膽大，就是膽包身。but your boldness is such that your courage contains your whole body.你弄變化神通，打破家火，能值幾何？What good does it do, working your transformation magic and smashing the utensils?鬥得那妖精淫興發了，那裡不分葷素安排，定要與我交媾，此事怎了？」行者暗中陪笑道：「師父莫怪，有救你處。」唐僧道：「那裡救得我？」行者道：「我才一翅飛起去時，見他後邊有個花園。You've stirred the monster's lust into full flame, and now, without regard for meat or vegetarian, she is determined to consummate the union with me — how is this to end?" Xingzhe said with an apologetic smile, "Master, don't be angry — there is a way to save you." Tang Seng said, "How can you possibly save me?" Xingzhe said, "Just now when I flew up, I saw there's a flower garden behind this place.你哄他往園裡去耍子，我救了你罷。」唐僧道：「園裡怎麼樣救？」行者道：「你與他到園裡，走到桃樹邊，就莫走了。You coax her into going to the garden to enjoy herself, and I'll save you there." Tang Seng said, "How can you save me in the garden?" Xingzhe said, "When you go with her to the garden, walk to beside a peach tree, and don't move from there.等我飛上桃枝，變作個紅桃子。I'll fly up onto a peach branch and turn myself into a red peach.你要吃果子，先揀紅的兒摘下來。When you want to eat fruit, pick the red one first.紅的是我。The red one will be me.他必然也要摘一個，你把紅的定要讓他。She's bound to want to pick one too — you must insist on letting her have the red one.他若一口吃了，我卻在他肚裡，等我搗破他的皮袋，扯斷他的肝腸，弄死他，你就脫身了。」三藏道：「你若有手段，就與他賭鬥便了，只要鑽在他肚裡怎麼？」行者道：「師父，你不知趣。“If she swallows me in one gulp, I shall be inside her belly. Once I smash open her skin-bag, tear apart her liver and guts, and finish her off, you will be free.” Sanzang said, “If you have such powers, you need only fight her. Why must you crawl into her belly?” The Pilgrim said, “Master, you do not understand.”他這個洞，若好出入，便可與他賭鬥；“If it were easy to enter and leave this cave, I could simply fight her;”只為出入不便，曲道難行，若就動手，他這一窩子，老老小小，連我都扯住，卻怎麼了？“but as it is hard to get in or out, and the twisting passages are difficult to traverse, if I attacked now, her whole nestful, old and young alike, would seize even me. What then?”須是這般捽手幹，大家才得乾淨。」三藏點頭聽信，只叫：「你跟定我。」行者道：「曉得，曉得，我在你頭上。」“I must do it by this underhanded means; only then can we all come away cleanly.” Sanzang nodded, believing him, and merely said, “Stay close to me.” The Pilgrim replied, “I know, I know. I am on your head.”

复翻身入里面，还变做个苍蝇儿，丁在门楼上听之。只闻得这妖怪气呼呼的，在亭子上吩咐：「小的们，不论荤素，拿来烧纸。借烦天地为媒订，务要与他成亲。」行者听见，暗笑道：「这妖精全没一些儿廉耻，青天白日的，把个和尚关在家里摆布。且不要忙，等老孙再进去看看。」嘤的一声，飞在东廊之下，只见那师父坐在里边，清滴滴腮边泪淌。行者钻将进去，丁在他头上，又叫声：「师父。」长老认得声音，跳起来，咬牙恨道：「猢狲啊，别人胆大，还是身包胆；你的胆大，就是胆包身。你弄变化神通，打破家火，能值几何？斗得那妖精淫兴发了，那里不分荤素安排，定要与我交媾，此事怎了？」行者暗中陪笑道：「师父莫怪，有救你处。」唐僧道：「那里救得我？」行者道：「我才一翅飞起去时，见他后边有个花园。你哄他往园里去耍子，我救了你罢。」唐僧道：「园里怎么样救？」行者道：「你与他到园里，走到桃树边，就莫走了。等我飞上桃枝，变作个红桃子。你要吃果子，先拣红的儿摘下来。红的是我。他必然也要摘一个，你把红的定要让他。他若一口吃了，我却在他肚里，等我捣破他的皮袋，扯断他的肝肠，弄死他，你就脱身了。」三藏道：「你若有手段，就与他赌斗便了，只要钻在他肚里怎么？」行者道：「师父，你不知趣。他这个洞，若好出入，便可与他赌斗；只为出入不便，曲道难行，若就动手，他这一窝子，老老小小，连我都扯住，却怎么了？须是这般捽手干，大家才得干净。」三藏点头听信，只叫：「你跟定我。」行者道：「晓得，晓得，我在你头上。」

師徒們商量定了，三藏才欠起身來，雙手扶著那格子，叫道：「娘子，娘子。」那妖精聽見，笑唏唏的跑近跟前道：「妙人哥哥，有甚話說？」三藏道：「娘子，我出了長安，一路西來，無日不山，無日不水。Once master and disciple had settled their plan, Sanzang raised himself slightly, gripped the bars with both hands, and called, “My lady, my lady.” Hearing him, the demoness ran up with a beaming smile and asked, “Dear brother, what have you to say?” Sanzang said, “My lady, ever since I left Chang’an and journeyed westward, not a day has passed without mountains, nor a day without rivers.”昨在鎮海寺投宿，偶得傷風重疾，今日出了汗，略才好些。“Yesterday I lodged at Zhenhai Monastery and happened to catch a severe chill. Today I broke into a sweat and have only just improved a little.”又蒙娘子盛情，攜入仙府。“Moreover, through your generous kindness, my lady, I have been brought into your immortal abode.”只是坐了這一日，又覺心神不爽。“But after sitting here all day, I feel dispirited again.”你帶我往那裡略散散心，耍耍兒去麼。」那妖精十分歡喜道：「妙人哥哥倒有些興趣，我和你去花園裡耍耍。」叫：「小的們，拿鑰匙來開了園門，打掃路逕。」眾妖都跑去開門收拾。“Would you take me somewhere to stroll a little and amuse myself?” The demoness was delighted. “Dear brother, you are showing some interest at last. Come, let us amuse ourselves in the garden.” She called, “You servants, bring the keys, open the garden gate, and sweep the paths.” The demons all ran off to open the gate and set things in order.

這妖精開了格子，攙出唐僧。The demoness opened the barred enclosure and helped Tang Seng out.你看他許多小妖，都是油頭粉面，嬝娜娉婷，簇簇擁擁，與唐僧徑上花園而去。Just look at her many little demons: all with glossy hair and powdered faces, graceful and dainty, they clustered thickly around Tang Seng and escorted him straight to the garden.好和尚，他在這綺羅隊裡無他故，錦繡叢中作啞聾。What a fine monk! Amid that company of silks and gauze he paid no heed to them; surrounded by brocade and embroidery, he played deaf and dumb.若不是這鐵打的心腸朝佛去，第二個酒色凡夫也取不得經。Had his iron heart not been set upon the Buddha, no ordinary mortal given to wine and women could ever have obtained the scriptures.一行都到了花園之外，那妖精俏語低聲，叫道：「妙人哥哥，這裡耍耍，真可散心釋悶。」唐僧與他攜手相攙，同入園內，擡頭觀看，其實好個去處。When the whole party reached the garden, the demoness murmured sweetly, “Dear brother, amuse yourself here; it will truly ease your mind and dispel your cares.” Hand in hand, supporting one another, Tang Seng and she entered the garden. He raised his head and looked about: it was indeed a splendid place.但見那：And this is what he saw:

这妖精开了格子，搀出唐僧。你看他许多小妖，都是油头粉面，嬝娜娉婷，簇簇拥拥，与唐僧径上花园而去。好和尚，他在这绮罗队里无他故，锦绣丛中作哑聋。若不是这铁打的心肠朝佛去，第二个酒色凡夫也取不得经。一行都到了花园之外，那妖精俏语低声，叫道：「妙人哥哥，这里耍耍，真可散心释闷。」唐僧与他携手相搀，同入园内，抬头观看，其实好个去处。但见那：

長老攜著那怪，步賞花園，看不盡的奇葩異卉。The elder, hand in hand with the monster, strolled through the garden admiring its countless rare blossoms and exotic plants.行過了許多亭閣，真個是漸入佳境。After passing many pavilions and galleries, they truly found the scenery growing finer at every step.忽擡頭，到了桃樹林邊。Suddenly he looked up and found that they had reached the edge of a peach grove.行者把師父頭上一掐，那長老就知。The Pilgrim pinched his master on the head, and the elder understood at once.行者飛在桃樹枝兒上，搖身一變，變作個紅桃兒，其實紅得可愛。The Pilgrim flew onto a peach bough, shook himself, and changed into a red peach—a most charming shade of red.長老對妖精道：「娘子，你這苑內花香，枝頭果熟。The elder said to the demoness, “My lady, the flowers in your garden are fragrant, and the fruit upon the branches is ripe.”苑內花香蜂競採，枝頭果熟鳥爭啣。“Within the garden, fragrant blooms are plundered by competing bees; upon the branches, ripened fruit is fought over by birds.”怎麼這桃樹上果子青紅不一，何也？」妖精笑道：「天無陰陽，日月不明；“Why, then, are the peaches on this tree of different colors, some green and some red?” The demoness laughed. “Without yin and yang in heaven, the sun and moon would shed no light;”地無陰陽，草木不生；“without yin and yang on earth, plants and trees would not grow;”人無陰陽，不分男女。“without yin and yang among humankind, there would be no distinction between man and woman.”這桃樹上果子，向陽處，有日色相烘者先熟，故紅；“Of the fruit on this peach tree, that which faces the sun and is warmed by its rays ripens first and is therefore red;”背陰處無日者還生，故青：此陰陽之道理也。」三藏道：「謝娘子指教，其實貧僧不知。」即向前伸手摘了個紅桃。“that which lies in the shade, untouched by sunlight, remains unripe and is therefore green. Such is the principle of yin and yang.” Sanzang said, “Thank you for instructing me, my lady. This poor monk truly did not know.” He immediately reached forward and plucked a red peach.妖精也去摘了一個青桃。The demoness also went and picked a green peach.三藏躬身將紅桃捧與妖怪道：「娘子，你愛色，請吃這個紅桃，拿青的來我吃。」妖精真個換了，且暗喜道：「好和尚啊，果是個真人，一日夫妻未做，卻就有這般恩愛也。」那妖精喜喜歡歡的把唐僧親敬。Bowing, Sanzang offered the red peach to the demoness with both hands and said, “My lady, you love bright colors, so please eat this red peach and give me the green one.” The demoness really did exchange peaches with him, secretly rejoicing, “What a fine monk! He truly is a man of genuine feeling. We have not yet been husband and wife for even a day, yet he already shows me such affection.” In her delight, the demoness treated Tang Seng with great tenderness.這唐僧把青桃拿過來就吃。Tang Seng took the green peach and began to eat it.那妖精喜相陪，把紅桃兒張口便咬。The demoness happily kept him company, opening her mouth to bite the red peach.啟朱唇，露銀牙，未曾下口，原來孫行者十分性急，轂轆一個跟頭，翻入他咽喉之下，徑到肚腹之中。She parted her vermilion lips and revealed her pearly teeth, but before she could bite down, Sun the Pilgrim, impatient as ever, turned a somersault with a roll and tumbled down her throat, straight into her belly.妖精害怕，對三藏道：「長老啊，這個果子利害：怎麼不容咬破，就滾下去了？」三藏道：「娘子，新開園的果子愛吃，所以去得快了。」妖精道：「未曾吐出核子，他就攛下去了。」三藏道：「娘子意美情佳，喜吃之甚，所以不及吐核，就下去了。」Terrified, the demoness said to Sanzang, “Elder, this fruit is formidable! How did it roll down before I could even bite it open?” Sanzang replied, “My lady, the fruit from a newly opened garden was eager to be eaten, so it went down quickly.” The demoness said, “I had not even spat out the stone before it darted down.” Sanzang replied, “My lady, your gracious feelings made you so eager to eat it that you swallowed it before you had time to spit out the stone.”

Old Sun has succeeded!” Sanzang said, “Disciple, go a little gently.” Hearing this, the demoness asked, “Whom are you talking to?” Sanzang replied, “I am talking to my disciple Sun Wukong.” The demoness asked, “Where is Sun Wukong?” Sanzang said, “In your belly. Was he not that red peach you just ate?” The demoness panicked. “It is all over, all over!”這猴頭鑽在我肚裡，我是死也。“With that monkey in my belly, I am as good as dead.”孫行者，你千方百計的鑽在我肚裡怎的？」行者在裡邊恨道：「也不怎的，只是吃了你的六葉連肝肺，三毛七孔心，五臟都淘淨，弄做個梆子精。」妖精聽說，諕得魂飛魄散，戰戰兢兢的把唐僧抱住道：「長老啊，我只道：“Sun the Pilgrim, why have you racked your brains for a thousand schemes merely to crawl into my belly?” From within, the Pilgrim answered spitefully, “For no great reason—only to eat your six-lobed liver and lungs, your three-haired, seven-holed heart, scour all five of your organs clean, and turn you into a hollow clapper-spirit.” At this, the demoness was so terrified that her soul scattered and her courage fled. Trembling all over, she clutched Tang Seng and said, “Elder, I had thought:”

He swung his fists, stamped his feet, braced himself, and planted them squarely, nearly pounding a hole through her skin-bag.那妖精忍不得疼痛，倒在塵埃，半晌家不敢言語。Unable to endure the pain, the demoness collapsed in the dust and for a long while dared not speak.行者見不言語，想是死了，卻把手略鬆一鬆。When the Pilgrim heard no sound, he thought she might be dead and relaxed his hands slightly.他又回過氣來，叫：「小的們在那裡？」原來那些小妖自進園門來，各人知趣，都不在一處，各自去採花鬥草，任意隨心耍子，讓那妖精與唐僧兩個自在敘情兒。She recovered her breath and called, “Where are you servants?” It turned out that after entering the garden, the little demons had each tactfully gone their separate ways, picking flowers, playing games with grasses, and amusing themselves as they pleased, leaving the demoness and Tang Seng alone to speak freely of love.忽聽得叫，卻才都跑將來。Only when they suddenly heard her call did they all come running back.又見妖精倒在地上，面容改色，口裡哼哼的爬不動，連忙攙起，圍在一處道：「夫人，怎的不好？Seeing the demoness lying on the ground, her face discolored, moaning and unable to crawl, they hurriedly helped her up, gathered around her, and asked, “Madam, what is wrong?”想是急心疼了？」妖精道：「不是，不是。“Has your heart suddenly begun to hurt?” The demoness replied, “No, no.”你莫要問，我肚裡已有了人也。“Do not ask. There is already someone inside my belly.”快把這和尚送出去，留我性命。」那些小妖真個都來扛擡。“Quickly send this monk away and save my life.” The little demons truly did all come forward to lift and carry him.行者在肚裡叫道：「那個敢擡？From inside her belly the Pilgrim shouted, “Who dares lift him?”要便是你自家獻我師父出去，出到外邊，我饒你命。」那怪精沒及奈何，只是惜命之心。“If you want to live, you must personally present my master outside. Once we are out, I shall spare your life.” The demoness had no choice; she cared only to preserve her life.急掙起來，把唐僧背在身上，拽開步，往外就走。She struggled hastily to her feet, hoisted Tang Seng onto her back, strode off, and headed outside.小妖跟隨道：「老夫人，往那裡去？」妖精道：「留得五湖明月在，何愁沒處下金鉤？The little demons followed, asking, “Old Madam, where are you going?” The demoness replied, “So long as the bright moon remains over the Five Lakes, why fear having nowhere to lower a golden hook?”把這廝送出去，等我別尋一個頭兒罷。」“I shall send this fellow out and find another mate later.”

With one bound she mounted the radiant clouds and went straight to the cave mouth.又聞得叮叮噹噹，兵刃亂響。There they again heard the clang and clatter of weapons ringing chaotically.三藏道：「徒弟，外面兵器響哩。」行者道：「是八戒揉鈀哩。Sanzang said, “Disciple, I hear weapons outside.” The Pilgrim replied, “That is Bajie wielding his rake.”你叫他一聲。」三藏便叫：「八戒。」八戒聽見道：「沙和尚，師父出來也。」二人掣開鈀、杖，妖精把唐僧馱出。“Call out to him.” Sanzang called, “Bajie!” Hearing him, Bajie said, “Brother Sha, Master is coming out!” The two drew back their rake and staff, and the demoness carried Tang Seng outside.咦！Ah!正是：Just so:
