卻說那獃子被一窩猴子捉住了，扛擡扯拉，把一件直裰子揪破。That fool was seized by a whole troop of monkeys, hoisted and hauled and dragged about, until they had torn his robe to shreds.口裡勞勞叨叨的，自家念誦道：「罷了，罷了，這一去有個打殺的情了。」不一時，到洞口。Muttering endlessly to himself, he kept saying: "It's over, it's over — this time I'll surely be beaten to death." Before long, they reached the mouth of the cave.那大聖坐在石崖之上，罵道：「你這囊糠的夯貨！The Great Sage sat atop the stone cliff and cursed: "You chaff-stuffed lump of a fool!你去便罷了，怎麼罵我？」八戒跪在地下道：「哥啊，我不曾罵你；You went off well enough, so why did you curse me?" Ba Jie knelt on the ground and said: "Brother, I never cursed you;若罵你，就嚼了舌頭根。if I had cursed you, may I bite off the root of my own tongue.我只說哥哥不去，我自去報師父便了。I only said that if elder brother wouldn't come, I would go report to Master myself.怎敢罵你？」行者道：「你怎麼瞞得過我？How would I dare curse you?" Xingzhe said: "How could you ever hide anything from me?我這左耳往上一扯，曉得三十三天人說話；If I give this left ear of mine a tug upward, I can hear what's being said in the thirty-three heavens;我這右耳往下一扯，曉得十代閻王與判官算帳。if I give this right ear a tug downward, I can hear the ten kings of the underworld settling accounts with their judges.你今走路把我罵，我豈不聽見？」八戒道：「哥啊，我曉得你賊頭鼠腦的，一定又變作個甚麼東西兒，跟著我聽的。」行者叫：「小的們，選大棍來，先打二十個見面孤拐，再打二十個背花，然後等我使鐵棒與他送行。」八戒慌得磕頭道：「哥哥，千萬看師父面上，饒了我罷。」行者道：「我想那師父好仁義兒哩。」八戒又道：「哥哥，不看師父啊，請看海上菩薩之面，饒了我罷。」So while you were on the road cursing me, how could I not hear it?" Ba Jie said: "Brother, I know you, thief-headed and rat-brained as you are — you must have turned into something or other and followed along to listen." Xingzhe called out: "Little ones, fetch the big cudgels — first give him twenty strokes on the ankle bones facing me, then twenty more on the back in a crisscross pattern, and after that I'll see him off with my iron rod." In alarm, Ba Jie kowtowed and said: "Brother, for Master's sake, please spare me." Xingzhe said: "I was just thinking how benevolent and righteous that Master of yours is." Ba Jie said again: "Brother, if not for Master's sake, then for the sake of the Bodhisattva of the Southern Seas, please spare me."

却说那呆子被一窝猴子捉住了，扛抬扯拉，把一件直裰子揪破。口里劳劳叨叨的，自家念诵道：「罢了，罢了，这一去有个打杀的情了。」不一时，到洞口。那大圣坐在石崖之上，骂道：「你这囊糠的夯货！你去便罢了，怎么骂我？」八戒跪在地下道：「哥啊，我不曾骂你；若骂你，就嚼了舌头根。我只说哥哥不去，我自去报师父便了。怎敢骂你？」行者道：「你怎么瞒得过我？我这左耳往上一扯，晓得三十三天人说话；我这右耳往下一扯，晓得十代阎王与判官算帐。你今走路把我骂，我岂不听见？」八戒道：「哥啊，我晓得你贼头鼠脑的，一定又变作个甚么东西儿，跟著我听的。」行者叫：「小的们，选大棍来，先打二十个见面孤拐，再打二十个背花，然后等我使铁棒与他送行。」八戒慌得磕头道：「哥哥，千万看师父面上，饶了我罢。」行者道：「我想那师父好仁义儿哩。」八戒又道：「哥哥，不看师父啊，请看海上菩萨之面，饶了我罢。」

行者見說起菩薩，卻有三分兒轉意道：「兄弟，既這等說，我且不打你。Hearing the Bodhisattva mentioned, Xingzhe softened somewhat and said: "Brother, since you put it that way, I won't beat you for now.你卻老實說，不要瞞我。But tell me honestly, don't hide anything from me.那唐僧在那裡有難，你卻來此哄我？」八戒道：「哥哥，沒甚難處，實是想你。」行者罵道：「這個好打的劣貨，你怎麼還要者囂我？Is Tang Seng in some kind of trouble somewhere, and you've come here to fool me?" Ba Jie said: "Brother, there's no trouble at all — I really just missed you." Xingzhe cursed: "You worthless wretch who's just asking for a beating, how dare you still try to deceive me?老孫身回水簾洞，心逐取經僧。Though old Sun's body returned to the Water Curtain Cave, my heart has been following the scripture-seeking monk all along.那師父步步有難，處處該災，你趁早兒告訢我，免打。」八戒聞得此言，叩頭上告道：「哥啊，分明要瞞著你，請你去的，不期你這等樣靈。That Master of yours meets with trouble at every step and disaster at every turn — tell me the truth right now, and I'll spare you the beating." Hearing this, Ba Jie kowtowed and confessed: "Brother, I really did mean to hide it from you and just ask you to come along, but I never expected you'd be so sharp.饒我打，放我起來說罷。」行者道：「也罷，起來說。」眾猴撒開手。Spare me the beating, and let me get up to tell you." Xingzhe said: "Very well, get up and speak." The monkeys let go of their hold.那獃子跳得起來，兩邊亂張。The fool leapt to his feet and looked wildly about him on both sides.行者道：「你張甚麼？」八戒道：「看看那條路兒空闊，好跑。」行者道：「你跑到那裡？Xingzhe said: "What are you looking for?" Ba Jie said: "Just checking which path is open and clear, good for running." Xingzhe said: "Run where?我就讓你先走三日，老孫自有本事趕轉你來。Even if I let you have a three-day head start, old Sun has the skill to chase you down and bring you back.快早說來，這一惱發我的性子，斷不饒你。」Speak quickly and honestly — if you rouse my temper, I absolutely won't spare you."

行者见说起菩萨，却有三分儿转意道：「兄弟，既这等说，我且不打你。你却老实说，不要瞒我。那唐僧在那里有难，你却来此哄我？」八戒道：「哥哥，没甚难处，实是想你。」行者骂道：「这个好打的劣货，你怎么还要者嚣我？老孙身回水帘洞，心逐取经僧。那师父步步有难，处处该灾，你趁早儿告䜣我，免打。」八戒闻得此言，叩头上告道：「哥啊，分明要瞒著你，请你去的，不期你这等样灵。饶我打，放我起来说罢。」行者道：「也罢，起来说。」众猴撒开手。那呆子跳得起来，两边乱张。行者道：「你张甚么？」八戒道：「看看那条路儿空阔，好跑。」行者道：「你跑到那里？我就让你先走三日，老孙自有本事赶转你来。快早说来，这一恼发我的性子，断不饶你。」

八戒道：「實不瞞哥哥說，自你回後，我與沙僧保師父前行，只見一座黑松林，師父下馬，教我化齋。Ba Jie said: "I won't hide it from you, brother. After you left, Sha Seng and I escorted Master onward, and we came upon a dark pine forest. Master dismounted and told me to go beg for food.我因許遠，無一個人家，辛苦了，略在草裡睡睡。Because I walked so far without finding a single household, I grew tired and lay down for a little sleep in the grass.不想沙僧別了師父，又來尋我。I never expected that Sha Seng would leave Master and come looking for me.你曉得師父沒有坐性，他獨步林間玩景。You know Master has no patience for sitting still — he wandered alone through the forest enjoying the scenery.出得林，見一座黃金寶塔放光，他只當寺院。Coming out of the forest, he saw a golden treasure pagoda shining with light, and he took it for a temple.不期塔下有個妖精，名喚黃袍，被他拿住。He never expected that beneath the pagoda there was a demon named Yellow Robe, and he was captured by it.後邊我與沙僧回尋，止見白馬、行囊，不見師父。Afterward, when Sha Seng and I went back to search, we found only the white horse and the luggage, but no sign of Master.隨尋至洞口，與那怪廝殺。We tracked our way to the mouth of the cave and fought with that demon.師父在洞，幸虧了一個救星。While Master was in the cave, fortunately a savior appeared.原是寶象國王第三個公主，被那怪攝來者。It turned out to be the third princess of the King of Baoxiang, who had been abducted there by that demon.他修了一封家書，託師父寄去，遂說方便，解放了師父。She wrote a letter home and entrusted Master to deliver it, and by speaking well of him, she got him released.到了國中，遞了書子，那國王就請師父降妖，取回公主。When he reached the kingdom and delivered the letter, the king asked Master to subdue the demon and bring the princess back.哥啊，你曉得，那老和尚可會降妖？Brother, you know — could that old monk possibly subdue a demon?我二人復去與戰，不知那怪神通廣大，將沙僧又捉了。The two of us went again to fight, but that demon's magic powers proved so vast that he captured Sha Seng too.我敗陣而走，伏在草中。I fled in defeat and hid in the grass.那怪變做個俊俏文人入朝，與國王認親，把師父變作老虎。That demon transformed himself into a handsome scholar, entered the court, claimed kinship with the king, and turned Master into a tiger.又虧了白龍馬夜現龍身，去尋師父，師父倒不曾尋見，卻遇著那怪在銀安殿飲酒。Then, fortunately, the White Dragon Horse revealed his true dragon form at night and went to search for Master. He didn't find Master, but he ran into that demon drinking wine in the Silver Peace Hall.他變一宮娥，與他巡酒、舞刀，欲乘機而砍，反被他用滿堂紅打傷馬腿。He transformed into a palace maid, poured wine for him and danced with a blade, hoping to seize the chance to strike him down, but instead the demon wounded his leg with a "Hall-Filling Red."就是他教我來請師兄的，說道：『師兄是個有仁有義的君子，君子不念舊惡，一定肯來救師父一難。』萬望哥哥念『一日為師，終身為父』之情，千萬救他一救。」It was he who told me to come and invite elder brother, saying: 'Elder brother Sun is a benevolent and righteous gentleman, and a gentleman does not bear old grudges — he is sure to come and save Master from this calamity.' I beg you, brother, for the sake of 'once a teacher, forever a father,' please save him."

八戒道：「实不瞒哥哥说，自你回后，我与沙僧保师父前行，只见一座黑松林，师父下马，教我化斋。我因许远，无一个人家，辛苦了，略在草里睡睡。不想沙僧别了师父，又来寻我。你晓得师父没有坐性，他独步林间玩景。出得林，见一座黄金宝塔放光，他只当寺院。不期塔下有个妖精，名唤黄袍，被他拿住。后边我与沙僧回寻，止见白马、行囊，不见师父。随寻至洞口，与那怪厮杀。师父在洞，幸亏了一个救星。原是宝象国王第三个公主，被那怪摄来者。他修了一封家书，托师父寄去，遂说方便，解放了师父。到了国中，递了书子，那国王就请师父降妖，取回公主。哥啊，你晓得，那老和尚可会降妖？我二人复去与战，不知那怪神通广大，将沙僧又捉了。我败阵而走，伏在草中。那怪变做个俊俏文人入朝，与国王认亲，把师父变作老虎。又亏了白龙马夜现龙身，去寻师父，师父倒不曾寻见，却遇著那怪在银安殿饮酒。他变一宫娥，与他巡酒、舞刀，欲乘机而砍，反被他用满堂红打伤马腿。就是他教我来请师兄的，说道：『师兄是个有仁有义的君子，君子不念旧恶，一定肯来救师父一难。』万望哥哥念『一日为师，终身为父』之情，千万救他一救。」

行者道：「你這個獃子，我臨別之時，曾叮嚀又叮嚀，說道：『若有妖魔捉住師父，你就說老孫是他大徒弟。』怎麼卻不說我？」八戒又思量道：「請將不如激將，等我激他一激。」道：「哥啊，不說你還好哩，只為說你，他一發無狀。」行者道：「怎麼說？」八戒道：「我說：『妖精，你不要無禮，莫害我師父。Xingzhe said: "You fool, when we parted I warned you again and again, saying: 'If any demon captures Master, just tell him old Sun is his eldest disciple.' Why didn't you mention me?" Ba Jie thought to himself: "Inviting a general is not as good as provoking a general — let me provoke him a bit." So he said: "Brother, it's better that I didn't mention you — because when I did mention you, he grew even more outrageous." Xingzhe said: "How so?" Ba Jie said: "I said: 'Demon, don't be so insolent, don't harm my Master.我還有個大師兄，叫做孫行者，他神通廣大，善能降妖，他來時教你死無葬身之地。』那怪聞言，越加忿怒，罵道：『是個甚麼孫行者，我可怕他？I still have an eldest senior brother named Sun Xingzhe, whose magic powers are vast and who excels at subduing demons — when he comes, he'll leave you without so much as a burial place.' When the demon heard this, he grew even angrier and cursed: 'What kind of Sun Xingzhe is that? Should I be afraid of him?他若來，我剝了他皮，抽了他觔，啃了他骨，吃了他心。If he comes, I'll strip off his skin, pull out his sinews, gnaw his bones, and eat his heart.饒他猴子瘦，我也把他剁鮓著油烹。』」行者聞言，就氣得抓耳撓腮，暴躁亂跳道：「是那個敢這等罵我？」八戒道：「哥哥息怒，是那黃袍怪這等罵來，我故學與你聽也。」行者道：「賢弟，你起來。Even though that monkey is scrawny, I'll still chop him into mince and fry him in oil.'" Hearing this, Xingzhe grew so furious he scratched his ears and cheeks, stamping about wildly, and said: "Who dares curse me like that?" Ba Jie said: "Calm your anger, brother — it was that Yellow Robe demon who cursed you so, and I was only repeating it to you." Xingzhe said: "Worthy brother, get up.不是我去不成，既是妖精敢罵我，我就不能不降他，我和你去。It's not that I refuse to go — since the demon dares to curse me, I cannot but subdue him. I'll go with you.老孫五百年前大鬧天宮，普天的神將看見我，一個個控背躬身，口口稱呼大聖。Five hundred years ago, when old Sun wreaked havoc in Heaven, every single god and general in the whole heavens, upon seeing me, bent their backs and bowed low, each one addressing me as Great Sage.這妖怪無禮，他敢背前面後罵我。This demon is so insolent that he dares to curse me behind my back and to my face alike.我這去，把他拿住，碎屍萬段，以報罵我之仇！I'll go now and capture him, hack his body into ten thousand pieces, to avenge the insult of his cursing me!報畢，我即回來。」八戒道：「哥哥，正是。Once I've had my revenge, I'll come straight back." Ba Jie said: "Brother, exactly so.你只去拿了妖精，報了你仇，那時來與不來，任從尊意。」You just go capture the demon and avenge yourself, and whether you come along after that or not will be entirely up to you."

行者道：「你这个呆子，我临别之时，曾叮咛又叮咛，说道：『若有妖魔捉住师父，你就说老孙是他大徒弟。』怎么却不说我？」八戒又思量道：「请将不如激将，等我激他一激。」道：「哥啊，不说你还好哩，只为说你，他一发无状。」行者道：「怎么说？」八戒道：「我说：『妖精，你不要无礼，莫害我师父。我还有个大师兄，叫做孙行者，他神通广大，善能降妖，他来时教你死无葬身之地。』那怪闻言，越加忿怒，骂道：『是个甚么孙行者，我可怕他？他若来，我剥了他皮，抽了他觔，啃了他骨，吃了他心。饶他猴子瘦，我也把他剁鲊著油烹。』」行者闻言，就气得抓耳挠腮，暴躁乱跳道：「是那个敢这等骂我？」八戒道：「哥哥息怒，是那黄袍怪这等骂来，我故学与你听也。」行者道：「贤弟，你起来。不是我去不成，既是妖精敢骂我，我就不能不降他，我和你去。老孙五百年前大闹天宫，普天的神将看见我，一个个控背躬身，口口称呼大圣。这妖怪无礼，他敢背前面后骂我。我这去，把他拿住，碎尸万段，以报骂我之仇！报毕，我即回来。」八戒道：「哥哥，正是。你只去拿了妖精，报了你仇，那时来与不来，任从尊意。」

那大聖才跳下崖，撞入洞裡，脫了妖衣。Only then did the Great Sage leap down from the cliff, dash into the cave, and take off his demon's robe.整一整錦直裰，束一束虎皮裙，執了鐵棒，徑出門來。He straightened his brocade robe, tightened his tiger-skin skirt, took up his iron rod, and went straight out the door.慌得那群猴攔住道：「大聖爺爺，你往那裡去？In alarm, the troop of monkeys blocked his way, saying: "Grandfather Great Sage, where are you going?帶挈我們耍子幾年也好。」行者道：「小的們，你說那裡話。Do stay and let us enjoy your company for a few more years." Xingzhe said: "Little ones, what kind of talk is that?我保唐僧的這樁事，天上地下，都曉得孫悟空是唐僧的徒弟。This matter of my escorting Tang Seng — everyone in heaven and on earth knows that Sun Wukong is Tang Seng's disciple.他倒不是趕我回來，倒是教我來家看看，送我來家自在耍子。He didn't actually drive me away — rather, he let me come home to look around and enjoy myself freely here for a while.如今只因這件事。Now, it's only because of this matter that I must go.你們卻都要仔細看守家業，依時插柳栽松，毋得廢墜。All of you must carefully guard our home and estate, plant willows and pines in their season, and let nothing fall into neglect.待我還去保唐僧，取經回東土，功成之後，仍回來與你們共樂天真。」眾猴各各領命。Wait until I go back to escort Tang Seng, and once the scriptures are fetched back to the Land of the East and the task is complete, I will return here to enjoy our natural bliss together with you." The monkeys each accepted his instructions.

那大圣才跳下崖，撞入洞里，脱了妖衣。整一整锦直裰，束一束虎皮裙，执了铁棒，径出门来。慌得那群猴拦住道：「大圣爷爷，你往那里去？带挈我们耍子几年也好。」行者道：「小的们，你说那里话。我保唐僧的这桩事，天上地下，都晓得孙悟空是唐僧的徒弟。他倒不是赶我回来，倒是教我来家看看，送我来家自在耍子。如今只因这件事。你们却都要仔细看守家业，依时插柳栽松，毋得废坠。待我还去保唐僧，取经回东土，功成之后，仍回来与你们共乐天真。」众猴各各领命。

那大聖才和八戒攜手駕雲，離了洞，過了東洋大海，至西岸，住雲光，叫道：「兄弟，你且在此慢行，等我下海去淨淨身子。」八戒道：「忙忙的走路，且淨甚麼身子？」行者道：「你那裡知道。Only then did the Great Sage join hands with Ba Jie and mount the clouds, leaving the cave, crossing the Eastern Ocean, and reaching its western shore, where he halted his cloud-light and called out: "Brother, wait here a moment — let me go down into the sea to cleanse my body." Ba Jie said: "We're hurrying along the road — why bother cleansing your body now?" Xingzhe said: "How would you know.我自從回來，這幾日弄得身上有些妖精氣了。Ever since I came back, these past few days I've picked up something of a demon's stench about my body.師父是個愛乾淨的，恐怕嫌我。」八戒於此始識得行者是片真心，更無他意。Master is someone who loves cleanliness, and I fear he might find me offensive." Only then did Ba Jie realize that Xingzhe's heart was entirely sincere, with no other intent at all.

那大圣才和八戒携手驾云，离了洞，过了东洋大海，至西岸，住云光，叫道：「兄弟，你且在此慢行，等我下海去净净身子。」八戒道：「忙忙的走路，且净甚么身子？」行者道：「你那里知道。我自从回来，这几日弄得身上有些妖精气了。师父是个爱干净的，恐怕嫌我。」八戒于此始识得行者是片真心，更无他意。

須臾洗畢，復駕雲西進，只見那金塔放光。In a moment he finished washing, and they mounted the clouds again and pressed on westward, when suddenly they saw the golden pagoda shining with light.八戒指道：「那不是黃袍怪家？Ba Jie pointed and said: "Isn't that Yellow Robe's home?沙僧還在他家裡。」行者道：「你在空中，等我下去看看那門前如何，好與妖精見陣。」八戒道：「不要去，妖精不在家。」行者道：「我曉得。」好猴王，按落祥光，徑至洞門外觀看。Sha Seng is still there in his home." Xingzhe said: "You stay up in the air — let me go down and see how things stand before the gate, so I can be ready to face the demon in battle." Ba Jie said: "No need to go — the demon isn't home." Xingzhe said: "I know." Splendid Monkey King — he lowered his auspicious light and went straight to look outside the cave gate.只見有兩個小孩子，在那裡使彎頭棍，打毛毬，搶窩耍子哩。There he saw two small children playing there, using curved-headed sticks to strike a wool ball, racing for the goal in a game.一個有十來歲，一個有八九歲了。One was about ten years old, the other eight or nine.正戲處，被行者趕上前，也不管他是張家李家的，一把抓著頂搭子，提將過來。Right in the middle of their play, Xingzhe rushed up, and without caring whose children they were, grabbed them by their topknots and hauled them over.那孩子吃了諕，口裡夾罵帶哭的亂嚷。The children, badly frightened, shouted wildly, cursing and crying all at once.驚動那波月洞的小妖，急報與公主道：「奶奶，不知甚人把二位公子搶去也。」原來那兩個孩子是公主與那怪生的。This alarmed the little demons of Wave Moon Cave, who hurried to report to the princess: "My lady, someone has snatched away the two young masters!" It turned out that the two children were born of the princess and that demon.

须臾洗毕，复驾云西进，只见那金塔放光。八戒指道：「那不是黄袍怪家？沙僧还在他家里。」行者道：「你在空中，等我下去看看那门前如何，好与妖精见阵。」八戒道：「不要去，妖精不在家。」行者道：「我晓得。」好猴王，按落祥光，径至洞门外观看。只见有两个小孩子，在那里使弯头棍，打毛毬，抢窝耍子哩。一个有十来岁，一个有八九岁了。正戏处，被行者赶上前，也不管他是张家李家的，一把抓著顶搭子，提将过来。那孩子吃了諕，口里夹骂带哭的乱嚷。惊动那波月洞的小妖，急报与公主道：「奶奶，不知甚人把二位公子抢去也。」原来那两个孩子是公主与那怪生的。

公主聞言，忙忙走出洞門來，只見行者提著兩個孩子，站在那高崖之上，意欲往下摜。Hearing this, the princess hurried out of the cave gate, and there she saw Xingzhe holding the two children, standing atop the high cliff, looking as though he meant to dash them down.慌得那公主厲聲高叫道：「那漢子，我與你沒甚相干，怎麼把我兒子拿去？In alarm, the princess cried out sharply: "You there, I have nothing to do with you — why have you taken my sons?他老子利害，有些差錯，決不與你干休。」行者道：「你不認得我？Their father is fierce, and if anything goes wrong, he will absolutely not let you off." Xingzhe said: "Don't you recognize me?我是那唐僧的大徒弟孫悟空行者。I am Tang Seng's eldest disciple, Sun Wukong Xingzhe.我有個師弟沙和尚在你洞裡，你去放他出來，我把這兩個孩兒還你。I have a junior brother, Sha Monk, in your cave — go and set him free, and I'll return these two children to you.似這般兩個換一個，還是你便宜。」那公主聞言，急往裡面，喝退那幾個把門的小妖，親動手，把沙僧解了。Trading two for one like this is still a bargain for you." Hearing this, the princess hurried inside, shouted back the little demons guarding the gate, and with her own hands untied Sha Seng.沙僧道：「公主，你莫解我，恐你那怪來家，問你要人，帶累你受氣。」公主道：「長老啊，你是我的恩人，你替我折辯了家書，救了我一命，我也留心放你。Sha Seng said: "Princess, don't untie me — I'm afraid that when your demon returns home and demands me back, you'll be blamed and made to suffer." The princess said: "Elder, you are my benefactor — you argued my case with the letter home and saved my life, so I too have been meaning to set you free.不期洞門之外，你有個大師兄孫悟空來了，叫我放你哩。」I never expected that outside the cave gate your eldest senior brother Sun Wukong would arrive and tell me to release you."

公主闻言，忙忙走出洞门来，只见行者提著两个孩子，站在那高崖之上，意欲往下掼。慌得那公主厉声高叫道：「那汉子，我与你没甚相干，怎么把我儿子拿去？他老子利害，有些差错，决不与你干休。」行者道：「你不认得我？我是那唐僧的大徒弟孙悟空行者。我有个师弟沙和尚在你洞里，你去放他出来，我把这两个孩儿还你。似这般两个换一个，还是你便宜。」那公主闻言，急往里面，喝退那几个把门的小妖，亲动手，把沙僧解了。沙僧道：「公主，你莫解我，恐你那怪来家，问你要人，带累你受气。」公主道：「长老啊，你是我的恩人，你替我折辩了家书，救了我一命，我也留心放你。不期洞门之外，你有个大师兄孙悟空来了，叫我放你哩。」

噫！Ah!那沙僧一聞「孫悟空」的三個字，好便似醍醐灌頂，甘露滋心；The moment Sha Seng heard the three words "Sun Wukong," it was as if ghee had been poured over his crown and sweet dew had nourished his heart;一面天生喜，滿腔都是春；a natural joy spread across his face, and his whole breast filled with spring;也不似聞得個人來，就如拾著一方金玉一般。it was not merely like hearing that someone had come, but as though he had picked up a piece of gold and jade.你看他捽手拂衣，走出門來，對行者施禮道：「哥哥，你真是從天而降也。Just see him shake out his hands, brush off his robe, and walk out the gate, bowing to Xingzhe and saying: "Brother, you truly have descended from the heavens.萬乞救我一救。」行者笑道：「你這個沙尼，師父念緊箍兒咒，可肯替我方便一聲？I beg you a thousand times to save me." Xingzhe laughed and said: "You Sha-nun, when Master recites the Tight-Fillet Spell, would you ever speak up a good word for me on the sly?都弄嘴施展，要保師父，如何不走西方路，卻在這裡蹲甚麼？」沙僧道：「哥哥，不必說了，君子人既往不咎。You all boast and show off about protecting Master — why aren't you on the road west instead of squatting around here?" Sha Seng said: "Brother, no need to say more — a gentleman does not blame others for what is past.我等是個敗軍之將，不可語勇，救我救兒罷。」行者道：「你上來。」沙僧才縱身跳上石崖。We are but defeated generals, unfit to speak of valor — just save me, save me, please." Xingzhe said: "Come up here." Only then did Sha Seng leap up onto the stone cliff.

噫！那沙僧一闻「孙悟空」的三个字，好便似醍醐灌顶，甘露滋心；一面天生喜，满腔都是春；也不似闻得个人来，就如拾著一方金玉一般。你看他捽手拂衣，走出门来，对行者施礼道：「哥哥，你真是从天而降也。万乞救我一救。」行者笑道：「你这个沙尼，师父念紧箍儿咒，可肯替我方便一声？都弄嘴施展，要保师父，如何不走西方路，却在这里蹲甚么？」沙僧道：「哥哥，不必说了，君子人既往不咎。我等是个败军之将，不可语勇，救我救儿罢。」行者道：「你上来。」沙僧才纵身跳上石崖。

卻說那八戒停立空中，看見沙僧出洞，即按下雲頭，叫聲：「沙兄弟，心忍，心忍。」沙僧見身道：「二哥，你從那裡來？」八戒道：「我昨日敗陣，夜間進城，會了白馬，知師父有難，被黃袍使法，變做個老虎。Now Ba Jie, who had been standing still up in the air, seeing Sha Seng emerge from the cave, at once lowered his cloud and called out: "Brother Sha, be patient, be patient." Sha Seng, showing himself, said: "Second brother, where have you come from?" Ba Jie said: "Yesterday after my defeat, I entered the city at night and met the white horse, and learned that Master was in trouble — that Yellow Robe had used his magic to turn him into a tiger.那白馬與我商議，請師兄來的。」行者道：「獃子，且休敘闊。The white horse discussed it with me, and that's how we came to invite elder brother." Xingzhe said: "Fool, let's not waste time chatting over old times now.把這兩個孩子，各抱著一個，先進那寶象城去激那怪來，等我在這裡打他。」沙僧道：「哥啊，怎麼樣激他？」行者道：「你兩個駕起雲，站在那金鑾殿上，莫分好歹，把那孩子往那白玉階前一摜。Take these two children, each of you carry one, and go first into Baoxiang City to provoke that demon into coming out, while I wait here to strike him." Sha Seng said: "Brother, how should we provoke him?" Xingzhe said: "The two of you mount the clouds, stand above the Golden Bell Hall, and without a second thought, dash the children down before the white jade steps.有人問你是甚人，你便說是黃袍妖精的兒子，被我兩個拿將來也。If anyone asks who you are, just say you are the sons of the demon Yellow Robe, brought here captured by the two of us.那怪聽見，管情回來，我卻不須進城與他鬥了。When the demon hears of it, he is certain to come rushing back, and then I won't need to go into the city to fight him.若在城上廝殺，必要噴雲噯霧，播土揚塵，驚擾那朝廷與多官、黎庶，俱不安也。」八戒笑道：「哥哥，你但幹事，就左我們。」行者道：「如何為左你？」八戒道：「這兩個孩子被你抓來，已此諕破膽了，這一會聲都哭啞，再一會必死無疑。If we fought within the city walls, we would inevitably spew clouds and belch mist, stir up dust and scatter earth, alarming the court and all the officials and common people, and none would be at peace." Ba Jie laughed and said: "Brother, whenever you handle things, you always land us in trouble." Xingzhe said: "How does this land you in trouble?" Ba Jie said: "These two children, having been seized by you, are already frightened out of their wits — by now they've cried themselves hoarse, and before long they're bound to die.我們拿他往下一摜，摜做個肉��子，那怪趕上肯放？If we take them and dash them down, smashing them into a lump of flesh, will the demon, once he catches up, ever let us go?定要我兩個償命。He'll surely demand that the two of us pay with our lives.你卻還不是個乾淨人？And wouldn't you then be the one left clean of it all?連見證也沒你，你卻不是左我們？」行者道：「他若扯你，你兩個就與他打將這裡來。There wouldn't even be a witness against you — so isn't that landing us in trouble?" Xingzhe said: "If he grabs hold of you, the two of you just fight your way back here with him.這裡有戰場寬闊，我在此等候打他。」沙僧道：「正是，正是，大哥說得有理，我們去來。」他兩個才倚仗威風，將孩子拿去。Here there's plenty of open battlefield, and I'll be waiting here to strike him." Sha Seng said: "Just so, just so — elder brother speaks with reason. Let's go." Only then did the two of them, relying on their imposing might, take the children and go.

Xingzhe said with an ingratiating smile: "Princess, don't be angry.你來的日子已久，帶你令郎去認他外公去哩。」公主道：「和尚莫無禮。You've been here so long now — I'm just taking your sons to go meet their grandfather." The princess said: "Monk, don't be so insolent.我那黃袍郎比眾不同，你若諕了我的孩兒，與他柳柳驚是。」行者笑道：「公主啊，為人生在天地之間，怎麼便是得罪？」公主道：「我曉得。」行者道：「你女流家，曉得甚麼？」公主道：「我自幼在宮，曾受父母教訓。My Yellow Robe husband is no ordinary man — if you frighten my children, you'd best go soothe their fright." Xingzhe laughed and said: "Princess, ah, how is it an offense for a person just to be born between heaven and earth?" The princess said: "I understand." Xingzhe said: "What would a woman like you understand?" The princess said: "I was raised in a palace from childhood, and I received instruction from my parents.記得古書云：『五刑之屬三千，而罪莫大於不孝。』」行者道：「你正是個不孝之人。I remember the ancient books say: 'Among the three thousand categories of the five punishments, no crime is greater than unfiliality.'" Xingzhe said: "You are precisely such an unfilial person.蓋『父兮生我，母兮鞠我。For 'my father begot me, my mother reared me.哀哀父母，生我劬勞。』故孝者，百行之原，萬善之本。Alas, my father and mother, how they toiled to bring me into being.' Therefore filial piety is the source of all conduct and the root of all virtue.卻怎麼將身陪伴妖精，更不思念父母？Yet how can you give yourself to keep company with a demon, and never think of your parents at all?非得不孝之罪，如何？」公主聞此正言，半晌家耳紅面赤，慚愧無地。Is that not the very crime of unfiliality — what else could it be?" Hearing these upright words, the princess, for a long while, flushed red in ear and face, so ashamed she wished the earth would swallow her.忽失口道：「長老之言最善。Suddenly she blurted out: "Elder, your words are most excellent.我豈不思念父母？How could I not think of my parents?只因這妖精將我攝騙在此，他的法令又謹，我的步履又難，路遠山遙，無人可傳音信。It is only that this demon abducted and deceived me into staying here — his rules are strict, and my movements are difficult; the road is far and the mountains distant, with no one to carry word to them.欲要自盡，又恐父母疑我逃走，事終不明。I wished to take my own life, but feared my parents would suspect I had run away, and the truth would never come to light.故沒奈何，苟延殘喘，誠為天地間一大罪人也。」說罷，淚如泉湧。So, having no other choice, I have merely dragged out this remnant of a life — truly I am a great sinner between heaven and earth." 行者即跳下石崖，到他塔门之下。那公主道：「你这和尚，全无信义：你说放了你师弟，就与我孩儿，怎么你师弟放去，把我孩儿又留，反来我门首做甚？」行者陪笑道：「公主休怪。你来的日子已久，带你令郎去认他外公去哩。」公主道：「和尚莫无礼。我那黄袍郎比众不同，你若諕了我的孩儿，与他柳柳惊是。」行者笑道：「公主啊，为人生在天地之间，怎么便是得罪？」公主道：「我晓得。」行者道：「你女流家，晓得甚么？」公主道：「我自幼在宫，曾受父母教训。记得古书云：『五刑之属三千，而罪莫大于不孝。』」行者道：「你正是个不孝之人。盖『父兮生我，母兮鞠我。哀哀父母，生我劬劳。』故孝者，百行之原，万善之本。却怎么将身陪伴妖精，更不思念父母？非得不孝之罪，如何？」公主闻此正言，半晌家耳红面赤，惭愧无地。忽失口道：「长老之言最善。我岂不思念父母？只因这妖精将我摄骗在此，他的法令又谨，我的步履又难，路远山遥，无人可传音信。欲要自尽，又恐父母疑我逃走，事终不明。故没奈何，苟延残喘，诚为天地间一大罪人也。」说罢，泪如泉涌。

行者道：「公主不必傷悲。Xingzhe said: "Princess, there's no need for such grief.豬八戒曾告訢我，說你有一封書，曾救了我師父一命，你書上也有思念父母之意。Zhu Bajie once told me that you had a letter which once saved my Master's life, and that in that letter you also expressed longing for your parents.老孫來，管與你拿了妖精，帶你回朝見駕，別尋個佳偶，侍奉雙親到老。Now that old Sun has come, I guarantee I will capture the demon for you, take you back to the court to see the king, and help you find a proper husband elsewhere, so you may serve your parents to the end of their days.你意如何？」公主道：「和尚啊，你莫要尋死。What do you think of that?" The princess said: "Monk, ah, don't go courting death.昨者你兩個師弟那樣好漢，也不曾打得過我黃袍郎。Just the other day your two junior brothers, good fighters as they were, still could not defeat my Yellow Robe husband.你這般一個觔多骨少的瘦鬼，一似個螃蟹模樣，骨頭都長在外面，有甚本事，你敢說拿妖魔之話？」行者笑道：「你原來沒眼色，認不得人。You, such a scrawny wretch, all sinew and little bone, looking just like a crab with your bones grown on the outside — what skill could you possibly have, that you dare speak of capturing the demon?" Xingzhe laughed and said: "So it turns out you have no eye for people at all, and can't recognize a real one.俗語云：『尿泡雖大無斤兩，秤鉈雖小壓千斤。』他們相貌，空大無用：走路抗風，穿衣費布，種火心空，頂門腰軟，吃食無功。As the common saying goes: 'A bladder may be big but weighs nothing; a steelyard weight may be small yet presses down a thousand catties.' Their build is big for nothing and useless: walking, they catch the wind; dressing, they waste cloth; kindling a fire, their hearts are hollow; their crowns are soft and their waists weak, and eating brings them no strength.咱老孫小自小，斤節。」那公主道：「你真個有手段麼？」行者道：「我的手段，你是也不曾看見，絕會降妖，極能伏怪。」公主道：「你卻莫誤了我耶。」行者道：「決然誤你不得。」公主道：「你既會降妖伏怪，如今卻怎樣拿他？」行者說：「你且迴避迴避，莫在我這眼前：倘他來時，不好動手腳，只恐你與他情濃了，捨不得他。」公主道：「我怎的捨不得他？As for old Sun, small as I am, I am compact and sinewy through and through." The princess said: "Do you really have skill?" Xingzhe said: "You have never yet seen my skill — I am utterly accomplished at subduing demons, and supremely capable of taming monsters." The princess said: "Then don't go and ruin things for me." Xingzhe said: "I will absolutely not ruin anything for you." The princess said: "Since you know how to subdue demons and tame monsters, how do you intend to capture him now?" Xingzhe said: "Withdraw for a while, and stay out of my sight — should he come, it would be awkward for me to move against him, for I fear you might still feel too much affection for him and be unable to bear parting with him." The princess said: "How could I be unable to bear parting with him?其稽留於此者，不得已耳。」行者道：「你與他做了十三年夫妻，豈無情意？My lingering here has been only because I had no other choice." Xingzhe said: "You have been husband and wife with him for thirteen years — how could there be no feeling between you?我若見了他，不與他兒戲，一棍便是一棍，一拳便是一拳，須要打倒他，才得你回朝見駕。」"If I see him, I won't play games with him — one strike of the cudgel for one strike, one blow of the fist for one blow; I must beat him down before you can return to court to see the king's face."

行者道：「公主不必伤悲。猪八戒曾告䜣我，说你有一封书，曾救了我师父一命，你书上也有思念父母之意。老孙来，管与你拿了妖精，带你回朝见驾，别寻个佳偶，侍奉双亲到老。你意如何？」公主道：「和尚啊，你莫要寻死。昨者你两个师弟那样好汉，也不曾打得过我黄袍郎。你这般一个觔多骨少的瘦鬼，一似个螃蟹模样，骨头都长在外面，有甚本事，你敢说拿妖魔之话？」行者笑道：「你原来没眼色，认不得人。俗语云：『尿泡虽大无斤两，秤铊虽小压千斤。』他们相貌，空大无用：走路抗风，穿衣费布，种火心空，顶门腰软，吃食无功。咱老孙小自小，斤节。」那公主道：「你真个有手段么？」行者道：「我的手段，你是也不曾看见，绝会降妖，极能伏怪。」公主道：「你却莫误了我耶。」行者道：「决然误你不得。」公主道：「你既会降妖伏怪，如今却怎样拿他？」行者说：「你且回避回避，莫在我这眼前：倘他来时，不好动手脚，只恐你与他情浓了，舍不得他。」公主道：「我怎的舍不得他？其稽留于此者，不得已耳。」行者道：「你与他做了十三年夫妻，岂无情意？我若见了他，不与他儿戏，一棍便是一棍，一拳便是一拳，须要打倒他，才得你回朝见驾。」

那怪还在银安殿，宿酒未醒。正睡梦间，听得有人叫他名字，他就翻身，抬头观看，只见那云端里是猪八戒、沙和尚二人吆喝。妖怪心中暗想道：「猪八戒便也罢了；沙和尚是我绑在家里，他怎么得出来？我的浑家怎么肯放他？我的孩儿怎么得到他手？这怕是猪八戒不得我出去与他交战，故将此计来羁我。我若认了这个泛头，就与他打啊。噫！我却还害酒哩。假若被他筑上一钯，却不灭了这个威风，识破了那个关窍？且等我回家看看，是我的儿子不是我的儿子，再与他说话不迟。」好妖怪，他也不辞王驾，转山林，径去洞中查信息。

The Great Sage, weaving false words and fabricating lies, tearfully reported: "My lord, as the saying goes: 'A man without wife or wealth has no master; a woman without a husband finds her life empty.' Yesterday you went to court to acknowledge your kin — why didn't you come back?今早被豬八戒劫了沙和尚，又把我兩個孩兒搶去，是我苦告，更不肯饒。This morning Zhu Bajie seized Sha Heshang, and also snatched away our two children. I begged bitterly, but he wouldn't relent at all.他說拿去朝中認認外公，這半日不見孩兒，又不知存亡如何，你又不見來家，教我怎生割捨？He said he was taking them to court to have them recognize their grandfather. All this while there's been no sign of the children, and I don't know whether they're alive or dead, and you too were nowhere to be seen at home — how could I bear it?故此止不住傷心痛哭。」那怪聞言，心中大怒道：「真個是我的兒子？」行者道：「正是，被豬八戒搶去了。」That's why I couldn't stop myself from grieving and weeping in pain." When the demon heard this, he grew furious: "Is it truly my son?" Xingzhe said: "Just so — taken away by Zhu Bajie."

却说那怪径回洞口。行者见他来时，设法哄他，把眼挤了一挤，扑簌簌泪如雨落，儿天儿地的跌脚搥胸，于此洞里嚎啕痛哭。那怪一时间那里认得，上前搂住道：「浑家，你有何事，这般烦恼？」那大圣编成的鬼话，捏出的虚词，泪汪汪的告道：「郎君啊，常言道：『男子少妻财没主，妇女无夫身落空。』你昨日进朝认亲，怎不回来？今早被猪八戒劫了沙和尚，又把我两个孩儿抢去，是我苦告，更不肯饶。他说拿去朝中认认外公，这半日不见孩儿，又不知存亡如何，你又不见来家，教我怎生割舍？故此止不住伤心痛哭。」那怪闻言，心中大怒道：「真个是我的儿子？」行者道：「正是，被猪八戒抢去了。」

那妖魔氣得亂跳道：「罷了，罷了，我兒被他摜殺了，已是不可活也。The demon king, so enraged he jumped about wildly, said: "It's over, it's over! My son has been flung down and killed by him — there's no way he could still be alive.只好拿那和尚來與我兒子償命報仇罷，渾家，你且莫哭。I can only seize that monk and make him pay for my son's life in revenge. Wife, don't cry anymore.你如今心裡覺道怎麼？How do you feel in your heart right now?且醫治一醫治。」行者道：「我不怎的，只是捨不得孩兒，哭得我有些心疼。」妖魔道：「不打緊，你請起來，我這裡有件寶貝，只在你那疼上摸一摸兒，就不疼了。Let me treat you a bit." Xingzhe said: "I'm not too bad, it's just that I can't bear to lose my child, and crying has given me a bit of a heartache." The demon said: "That's nothing serious. Please get up — I have a treasure here; just rub it on the spot that aches, and it will stop hurting at once.卻要仔細，休使大指兒彈著；But you must be careful — don't flick it with your thumb;若使大指兒彈著啊，就看出我本相來了。」行者聞言，心中暗笑道：「這潑怪，倒也老實，不動刑法，就自家供了。if you flick it with your thumb, my true form will be revealed." When Xingzhe heard this, he secretly laughed to himself: "This wretched demon is honest enough after all — without even being put to torture, he's confessed on his own.等他拿出寶貝來，我試彈他一彈，看他是個甚麼妖怪。」那怪攜著行者，一直行到洞裡深遠密閉之處。Once he brings out the treasure, I'll try flicking it once and see what kind of demon he really is." The demon led Xingzhe by the hand, walking straight to a deep and tightly sealed place within the cave.卻從口中吐出一件寶貝，有雞子大小，是一顆舍利子玲瓏內丹。Then he spat out from his mouth a treasure, about the size of a hen's egg — it was a sarira, an exquisite inner elixir.行者心中暗喜道：「好東西耶。Xingzhe secretly rejoiced, thinking: "What a fine thing.這件物不知打了多少坐工，煉了幾年磨難，配了幾轉雌雄，煉成這顆內丹舍利。There's no telling how many sessions of meditation this took, how many years of trials it was refined through, how many cycles of yin and yang it was paired through, to be refined into this inner elixir sarira.今日大有緣法，遇著老孫。」那猴子拿將過來，那裡有甚麼疼處，特故意摸了一摸，一指頭彈將去。Today I have great good fortune indeed, to have come across old Sun." The monkey took it in his hands — there was of course no pain there at all — but pretending to rub the spot, he gave it a flick with one finger.那妖慌了，劈手來搶。The demon, alarmed, snatched with his hand to grab it back.你思量，那猴子好不溜撒，把那寶貝一口吸在肚裡。But think — that monkey was ever so quick and nimble — he swallowed the treasure down into his belly in one gulp.那妖魔揝著拳頭就打。The demon king clenched his fists and struck out at once.被行者一手隔住，把臉抹了一抹，現出本相，道聲：「妖怪，不要無禮。Xingzhe blocked it with one hand, and with the other wiped his face, revealing his true form, and said: "Demon, don't be so rude.你且認認看我是誰？」Take a good look and see who I am."

那妖魔气得乱跳道：「罢了，罢了，我儿被他掼杀了，已是不可活也。只好拿那和尚来与我儿子偿命报仇罢，浑家，你且莫哭。你如今心里觉道怎么？且医治一医治。」行者道：「我不怎的，只是舍不得孩儿，哭得我有些心疼。」妖魔道：「不打紧，你请起来，我这里有件宝贝，只在你那疼上摸一摸儿，就不疼了。却要仔细，休使大指儿弹著；若使大指儿弹著啊，就看出我本相来了。」行者闻言，心中暗笑道：「这泼怪，倒也老实，不动刑法，就自家供了。等他拿出宝贝来，我试弹他一弹，看他是个甚么妖怪。」那怪携著行者，一直行到洞里深远密闭之处。却从口中吐出一件宝贝，有鸡子大小，是一颗舍利子玲珑内丹。行者心中暗喜道：「好东西耶。这件物不知打了多少坐工，炼了几年磨难，配了几转雌雄，炼成这颗内丹舍利。今日大有缘法，遇著老孙。」那猴子拿将过来，那里有甚么疼处，特故意摸了一摸，一指头弹将去。那妖慌了，劈手来抢。你思量，那猴子好不溜撒，把那宝贝一口吸在肚里。那妖魔揝著拳头就打。被行者一手隔住，把脸抹了一抹，现出本相，道声：「妖怪，不要无礼。你且认认看我是谁？」

那妖怪見了，大驚道：「呀！When the demon saw this, he was greatly startled: "Ah!渾家，你怎麼拿出這一副嘴臉來耶？」行者罵道：「我把你這個潑怪！Wife, how did you come to show me such a face as this?" Xingzhe cursed: "You wretched demon!誰是你渾家？Who is your wife?連你祖宗也還不認得哩。」那怪忽然省悟道：「我像有些認得你哩。」行者道：「我且不打你，你再認認看。」那怪道：「我雖見你眼熟，一時間卻想不起姓名，你果是誰？You don't even recognize your own ancestor." The demon suddenly seemed to grasp something: "I feel as though I recognize you somewhat." Xingzhe said: "I won't hit you just yet — look again and see." The demon said: "Though your face looks familiar to me, I can't for the moment recall your name. Who are you really?從那裡來的？Where do you come from?你把我渾家估倒在何處，卻來我家詐誘我的寶貝？Where have you knocked out my wife and hidden her, that you dare come to my house to trick me out of my treasure?著實無禮，可惡！」行者道：「你是也不認得我。This is truly outrageous, detestable!" Xingzhe said: "So you really don't recognize me.我是唐僧的大徒弟，叫做孫悟空行者。I am Tang Seng's eldest disciple, called Sun Wukong Xingzhe.我是你五百年前的舊祖宗哩。」那怪道：「沒有這話，沒有這話。I am your ancestor from five hundred years ago." The demon said: "There's no such thing, no such thing.我拿住唐僧時，止知他有兩個徒弟，叫做豬八戒、沙和尚，何曾見有人說個姓孫的？When I captured Tang Seng, I only knew he had two disciples, called Zhu Bajie and Sha Heshang — when did I ever hear anyone mention one surnamed Sun?你不知是那裡來的個怪物，到此騙我。」行者道：「我不曾同他二人來，是我師父因老孫慣打妖怪，殺傷甚多，他是個慈悲好善之人，將我逐回，故不曾同他一路行走。I don't know where you've come from, you monster, to come here and trick me." Xingzhe said: "I didn't come here together with those two. My master, because old Sun was in the habit of beating demons and had killed and wounded so many, and being a merciful and kind-hearted man, drove me away — that's why I wasn't traveling along the road with them.你是不知你祖宗名姓。」那怪道：「你好不丈夫啊，既受了師父趕逐，卻有甚麼嘴臉又來見人？」行者道：「你這個潑怪，豈知『一日為師，終身為父』？『父子無隔宿之仇』？You simply don't know your own ancestor's name and surname." The demon said: "What kind of man are you? Having been driven away by your master, what face do you have to come and see people again?" Xingzhe said: "You wretched demon, how could you understand that 'once a teacher, always a father for life,' and that 'father and son bear no grudge overnight'?你傷害我師父，我怎麼不來救他？You harmed my master — how could I not come to save him?你害他便也罷？If you had merely harmed him, that would be one thing —卻又背前面後罵我，是怎的說？」妖怪道：「我何嘗罵你？」行者道：「是豬八戒說的。」那怪道：「你不要信他。but then to go behind my back and in front of my face curse me — what's the meaning of that?" The demon said: "When did I ever curse you?" Xingzhe said: "It was Zhu Bajie who said so." The demon said: "Don't believe him.那個豬八戒尖著嘴，有些會說老婆舌頭，你怎聽他？」行者道：「且不必講此閑話。That Zhu Bajie with his pointed mouth is one for gossiping like an old wife — why would you listen to him?" Xingzhe said: "Let's not bother with such idle talk for now.只說老孫今日到你家裡，你好怠慢了遠客。I'll just say this: since old Sun has come to your house today, you've treated a guest from afar rather shabbily.雖無酒饌款待，頭卻是有的。Though there's no wine or food to entertain me with, you do at least have a head.快快將頭伸過來，等老孫打一棍兒當茶。」那怪聞得說打，呵呵大笑道：「孫行者，你差了計較了，你既說要打，不該跟我進來。Quickly stretch your neck over here, and let old Sun give it a whack of the cudgel by way of tea." When the demon heard talk of being struck, he laughed heartily: "Sun Xingzhe, you've miscalculated. If you meant to strike me, you shouldn't have followed me in here.我這裡大小群妖還有百十，饒你滿身是手，也打不出我的門去。」行者道：「不要胡說，莫說百十個，就有幾千幾萬，只要一個個查明白了好打，棍棍無空，教你斷根絕跡。」I have here a hundred or so demons of every size, and even if you had hands covering your whole body, you still couldn't fight your way out of my gate." Xingzhe said: "Don't talk nonsense. Never mind a hundred or so — even if there were several thousand or tens of thousands, I need only check each one over clearly before striking, and every blow of the cudgel will land true, until I've wiped out your kind root and branch."

那妖怪见了，大惊道：「呀！浑家，你怎么拿出这一副嘴脸来耶？」行者骂道：「我把你这个泼怪！谁是你浑家？连你祖宗也还不认得哩。」那怪忽然省悟道：「我像有些认得你哩。」行者道：「我且不打你，你再认认看。」那怪道：「我虽见你眼熟，一时间却想不起姓名，你果是谁？从那里来的？你把我浑家估倒在何处，却来我家诈诱我的宝贝？著实无礼，可恶！」行者道：「你是也不认得我。我是唐僧的大徒弟，叫做孙悟空行者。我是你五百年前的旧祖宗哩。」那怪道：「没有这话，没有这话。我拿住唐僧时，止知他有两个徒弟，叫做猪八戒、沙和尚，何曾见有人说个姓孙的？你不知是那里来的个怪物，到此骗我。」行者道：「我不曾同他二人来，是我师父因老孙惯打妖怪，杀伤甚多，他是个慈悲好善之人，将我逐回，故不曾同他一路行走。你是不知你祖宗名姓。」那怪道：「你好不丈夫啊，既受了师父赶逐，却有甚么嘴脸又来见人？」行者道：「你这个泼怪，岂知『一日为师，终身为父』？『父子无隔宿之仇』？你伤害我师父，我怎么不来救他？你害他便也罢？却又背前面后骂我，是怎的说？」妖怪道：「我何尝骂你？」行者道：「是猪八戒说的。」那怪道：「你不要信他。那个猪八戒尖著嘴，有些会说老婆舌头，你怎听他？」行者道：「且不必讲此闲话。只说老孙今日到你家里，你好怠慢了远客。虽无酒馔款待，头却是有的。快快将头伸过来，等老孙打一棍儿当茶。」那怪闻得说打，呵呵大笑道：「孙行者，你差了计较了，你既说要打，不该跟我进来。我这里大小群妖还有百十，饶你满身是手，也打不出我的门去。」行者道：「不要胡说，莫说百十个，就有几千几万，只要一个个查明白了好打，棍棍无空，教你断根绝迹。」

那怪聞言，急傳號令，把那山前山後群妖，洞裡洞外諸怪，一齊點起，各執器械，把那三四層門，密密攔阻不放。When the demon heard this, he hastily gave the order, summoning all the demons from before and behind the mountain, all the goblins inside and outside the cave, mustering them all at once, each bearing weapons, to block off the three or four layers of gates tightly, letting no one through.行者見了，滿心歡喜，雙手理棍，喝聲叫：「變！」變的三頭六臂。When Xingzhe saw this, his heart filled with joy; gripping the cudgel with both hands, he gave a shout: "Change!" and transformed into one with three heads and six arms.把金箍棒幌一幌，變做三根金箍棒。He gave the golden-hooped cudgel a shake, and it transformed into three golden-hooped cudgels.你看他六隻手使著三根棒，一路打將去，好便似虎入羊群，鷹來雞柵。Just watch him — six hands wielding three cudgels, striking his way forward, truly like a tiger entering a flock of sheep, or a hawk swooping into a chicken coop.可憐那小怪，湯著的，頭如粉碎；Pity the little demons — those he touched had their heads smashed to powder;刮著的，血似水流。those he grazed had blood flowing like water.往來縱橫，如入無人之境。He ranged back and forth as though entering a land where no one else existed.止剩一個老妖，趕出門來罵道：「你這潑猴，其實憊懶！Only the old demon was left, who rushed out the gate cursing: "You wretched macaque, you're truly a shameless rascal!怎麼上門子欺負人家？」行者急回頭，用手招呼道：「你來，你來，打倒你，才是功績。」那怪物，舉寶刀，分頭便砍；How dare you barge in and bully my people at their own door?" Xingzhe turned his head at once and beckoned with his hand: "Come here, come here — beating you down is the true achievement." The demon raised his precious blade and hacked straight down at his head;好行者，掣鐵棒，覿面相迎。the good Xingzhe drew his iron cudgel and met him face to face.這一場，在那山頂上，半雲半霧的殺哩：In this bout, up there on the mountain top, half in cloud and half in mist, they fought it out:

那怪闻言，急传号令，把那山前山后群妖，洞里洞外诸怪，一齐点起，各执器械，把那三四层门，密密拦阻不放。行者见了，满心欢喜，双手理棍，喝声叫：「变！」变的三头六臂。把金箍棒幌一幌，变做三根金箍棒。你看他六只手使著三根棒，一路打将去，好便似虎入羊群，鹰来鸡栅。可怜那小怪，汤著的，头如粉碎；刮著的，血似水流。往来纵横，如入无人之境。止剩一个老妖，赶出门来骂道：「你这泼猴，其实惫懒！怎么上门子欺负人家？」行者急回头，用手招呼道：「你来，你来，打倒你，才是功绩。」那怪物，举宝刀，分头便砍；好行者，掣铁棒，觌面相迎。这一场，在那山顶上，半云半雾的杀哩：

他兩個戰有五六十合，不分勝負。The two of them fought some fifty or sixty rounds without either gaining the upper hand.行者心中暗喜道：「這個潑怪，他那口刀倒也抵得住老孫的這根棒。Xingzhe secretly rejoiced, thinking: "This wretched demon — that blade of his can actually hold up against this cudgel of old Sun's.等老孫丟個破綻與他，看他可認得？」好猴王，雙手舉棍，使一個「高探馬」的勢子。Let me leave an opening for him and see if he recognizes it." The good Monkey King, raising the cudgel with both hands, executed the stance called "Reaching High to Check the Horse."那怪不識是計，見有空兒，舞著寶刀，徑奔下三路砍；The demon, not recognizing this as a ruse, saw what looked like an opening and, wielding his precious blade, hacked straight for the lower body;被行者急轉個「大中平」，挑開他那口刀，又使個「葉底偷桃勢」，望妖精頭頂一棍，就打得他無影無蹤。Xingzhe swiftly turned into the stance "Level Thrust Through the Center," parrying aside that blade, then used the move "Stealing the Peach Beneath the Leaves," and with one blow of the cudgel to the top of the demon's head, struck him so that he vanished without a trace.急收棍子看處，不見了妖精。Hastily drawing back the cudgel to look, he found the demon nowhere to be seen.行者大驚道：「我兒啊，不禁打，就打得不見了。Xingzhe was greatly astonished: "My son, he couldn't even take the blow, and got struck right out of existence.果是打死，好道也有些膿血，如何沒一毫蹤影？If he'd really been killed, there ought at least to be some blood and gore — how could there be not a trace left?想是走了。」急縱身跳在雲端裡看處，四邊更無動靜。「老孫這雙眼睛，不管那裡，一抹都見，卻怎麼走得這等溜撒？I suppose he's run off." He hastily leapt up into the clouds to look, but on every side there was no stir at all. "These two eyes of old Sun's, wherever I look, take in everything in one sweep — how could he have slipped away so nimbly?我曉得了，那怪說有些兒認得我，想必不是凡間的怪，多是天上來的精。」Now I understand — the demon said he seemed to recognize me somewhat; he must not be some ordinary earthly demon, but likely a spirit come down from Heaven."

他两个战有五六十合，不分胜负。行者心中暗喜道：「这个泼怪，他那口刀倒也抵得住老孙的这根棒。等老孙丢个破绽与他，看他可认得？」好猴王，双手举棍，使一个「高探马」的势子。那怪不识是计，见有空儿，舞著宝刀，径奔下三路砍；被行者急转个「大中平」，挑开他那口刀，又使个「叶底偷桃势」，望妖精头顶一棍，就打得他无影无踪。急收棍子看处，不见了妖精。行者大惊道：「我儿啊，不禁打，就打得不见了。果是打死，好道也有些脓血，如何没一毫踪影？想是走了。」急纵身跳在云端里看处，四边更无动静。「老孙这双眼睛，不管那里，一抹都见，却怎么走得这等溜撒？我晓得了，那怪说有些儿认得我，想必不是凡间的怪，多是天上来的精。」

那大聖一時忍不住怒發，揝著鐵棒，打個觔斗，只跳到南天門上。The Great Sage, for a moment unable to contain his rising anger, gripped his iron cudgel, turned a somersault, and leapt straight up to the South Heavenly Gate.慌得那龐、劉、苟、畢，張、陶、鄧、辛等眾，兩邊躬身控背，不敢攔阻，讓他打入天門，直至通明殿下。Pang, Liu, Gou, Bi, Zhang, Tao, Deng, Xin and the rest were all thrown into alarm, bowing low on both sides, not daring to bar his way, letting him force his way through the Heavenly Gate straight down to beneath the Hall of Communicating Light.早有張、葛、許、丘四大天師問道：「大聖何來？」行者道：「因保唐僧至寶象國，有一妖魔欺騙國女，傷害吾師，老孫與他賭鬥。There the Four Great Heavenly Teachers Zhang, Ge, Xu, and Qiu were already asking: "Whence does the Great Sage come?" Xingzhe said: "Because I am escorting Tang Seng to Baoxiang Kingdom, there was a demon there who deceived the king's daughter and harmed my master, and old Sun fought a bout with him.正鬥間，不見了這怪。In the midst of the fight, the demon suddenly vanished.想那怪不是凡間之怪，多是天上之精，特來查勘，那一路走了甚麼妖神？」天師聞言，即進靈霄殿上啟奏。I suspect that demon is no ordinary earthly demon, but likely a spirit from Heaven, and I've come specially to investigate — which path did some stray demon-spirit escape by?" When the Heavenly Teachers heard this, they went at once into the Hall of Miraculous Mist to report.蒙差查勘九曜星官、十二元辰、東西南北中央五斗、河漢群辰、五岳四瀆、普天神聖都在天上，更無一個敢離方位。Under orders to investigate, the Nine Luminaries star officials, the Twelve Cyclical Spirits, the Five Dippers of east, west, south, north, and center, the host of stars of the Milky Way, the Five Sacred Peaks, the Four Great Rivers, and all the host of divine sages of the whole of Heaven were checked, and all were found to be in Heaven — not one had dared leave his post.又查那斗牛宮外二十八宿，顛倒只有二十七位，內獨少了奎星。They further checked the twenty-eight lunar mansions outside the Dou-Niu Palace, and counting them over, there were only twenty-seven — the Wolf of Kui star alone was missing.天師回奏道：「奎木狼下界了。」玉帝道：「多少時不在天了？」天師道：「四卯不到，三日點卯一次，今已十三日了。」玉帝道：「天上十三日，下界已是十三年。」即命本部收他上界。The Heavenly Teacher reported back: "Kui Star, the Wooden Wolf, has descended to the world below." The Jade Emperor said: "How long has he been absent from Heaven?" The Heavenly Teacher said: "He has missed four roll-calls — roll call is taken once every three days — so it has now been thirteen days." The Jade Emperor said: "Thirteen days in Heaven means thirteen years already in the world below." He at once ordered the star's own department to bring him back up to Heaven.

那大圣一时忍不住怒发，揝著铁棒，打个觔斗，只跳到南天门上。慌得那庞、刘、苟、毕，张、陶、邓、辛等众，两边躬身控背，不敢拦阻，让他打入天门，直至通明殿下。早有张、葛、许、丘四大天师问道：「大圣何来？」行者道：「因保唐僧至宝象国，有一妖魔欺骗国女，伤害吾师，老孙与他赌斗。正斗间，不见了这怪。想那怪不是凡间之怪，多是天上之精，特来查勘，那一路走了甚么妖神？」天师闻言，即进灵霄殿上启奏。蒙差查勘九曜星官、十二元辰、东西南北中央五斗、河汉群辰、五岳四渎、普天神圣都在天上，更无一个敢离方位。又查那斗牛宫外二十八宿，颠倒只有二十七位，内独少了奎星。天师回奏道：「奎木狼下界了。」玉帝道：「多少时不在天了？」天师道：「四卯不到，三日点卯一次，今已十三日了。」玉帝道：「天上十三日，下界已是十三年。」即命本部收他上界。

那二十七宿星員領了旨意，出了天門，各念咒語，驚動奎星。Those twenty-seven mansion star officials received the decree, went out through the Heavenly Gate, and each recited spells to alert the Kui Star.你道他在那裡躲避？Do you know where he had been hiding all this while?他原來是孫大聖大鬧天宮時打怕了的神將，閃在那山澗裡潛災，被水氣隱住妖雲，所以不曾看見他。It turned out he was a spirit-general who had once been thoroughly frightened by the Great Sage during the uproar in Heaven, and had slipped away into that mountain ravine to hide from disaster, his demonic aura concealed by the mist of the water, and that was why no one had seen him.他聽得本部星員念咒，方敢出頭，隨眾上界。When he heard the star officials of his own department reciting the spell, only then did he dare show himself, and followed the others up to Heaven.被大聖攔住天門要打，幸虧眾星勸住，押見玉帝。The Great Sage barred the Heavenly Gate and meant to strike him, but fortunately the assembled stars restrained him, and he was escorted before the Jade Emperor instead.那怪腰間取出金牌，在殿下叩頭納罪。The demon took the gold tablet from his waist and knocked his head on the ground before the hall, confessing his crime.玉帝道：「奎木狼，上界有無邊的勝景，你不受用，卻私走一方，何也？」奎宿叩頭奏道：「萬歲，赦臣死罪。The Jade Emperor said: "Kui, Wooden Wolf, Heaven above has boundless splendid scenery for you to enjoy — why did you not partake of it, but instead stole away privately to one region below? Why is that?" The Kui Mansion star kowtowed and reported: "Your Majesty, pardon this subject's mortal offense.那寶象國王公主，非凡人也。That princess of Baoxiang Kingdom is no ordinary mortal.他本是披香殿侍香的玉女，因欲與臣私通，臣恐點污了天宮勝境。She was originally the Jade Maiden who tended the incense in the Hall of Draped Fragrance; because she wished to have illicit relations with your subject, your subject feared defiling the sacred precincts of the Heavenly Palace.他思凡先下界去，托生於皇宮內院。She, longing for the mortal world, went down first to be reborn within the royal palace.是臣不負前期，變作妖魔，占了名山，攝他到洞府，與他配了一十三年夫妻。『一飲一啄，莫非前定。』今被孫大聖到此成功。」玉帝聞言，收了金牌，貶他去兜率宮與太上老君燒火，帶俸差操，有功復職，無功重加其罪。So as not to fail our earlier pact, your subject transformed into a demon, seized a famous mountain, abducted her to my cave dwelling, and lived with her as husband and wife for thirteen years. 'Every sip and every peck is foreordained.' Now, through the Great Sage's arrival, this has been resolved." When the Jade Emperor heard this, he took back the gold tablet, and demoted him to the Tushita Palace to tend the fire for Lord Lao the Most High, retaining his stipend while on punitive duty — should he achieve merit, he would be restored to office; should he achieve none, his punishment would be increased further.

那二十七宿星员领了旨意，出了天门，各念咒语，惊动奎星。你道他在那里躲避？他原来是孙大圣大闹天宫时打怕了的神将，闪在那山涧里潜灾，被水气隐住妖云，所以不曾看见他。他听得本部星员念咒，方敢出头，随众上界。被大圣拦住天门要打，幸亏众星劝住，押见玉帝。那怪腰间取出金牌，在殿下叩头纳罪。玉帝道：「奎木狼，上界有无边的胜景，你不受用，却私走一方，何也？」奎宿叩头奏道：「万岁，赦臣死罪。那宝象国王公主，非凡人也。他本是披香殿侍香的玉女，因欲与臣私通，臣恐点污了天宫胜境。他思凡先下界去，托生于皇宫内院。是臣不负前期，变作妖魔，占了名山，摄他到洞府，与他配了一十三年夫妻。『一饮一啄，莫非前定。』今被孙大圣到此成功。」玉帝闻言，收了金牌，贬他去兜率宫与太上老君烧火，带俸差操，有功复职，无功重加其罪。

行者見玉帝如此發放，心中歡喜，朝上唱個大喏，又向眾神道：「列位，起動了。」天師笑道：「那個猴子還是這等村俗，替他收了怪神，也倒不謝天恩，卻就唱喏而退。」玉帝道：「只得他無事，落得天上清平是幸。」Seeing the Jade Emperor dispose of the matter this way, Xingzhe was glad at heart; he bowed toward the throne with a great cry of respect, and said to the assembled deities: "Gentlemen, I have troubled you." The Heavenly Teacher laughed: "That monkey is still so uncouth — even after having his demon-spirit rounded up for him, he doesn't even thank Heaven for its grace, but simply gives a shout of respect and withdraws." The Jade Emperor said: "It's enough that he causes no trouble — it's already a blessing that peace prevails in Heaven."

行者见玉帝如此发放，心中欢喜，朝上唱个大喏，又向众神道：「列位，起动了。」天师笑道：「那个猴子还是这等村俗，替他收了怪神，也倒不谢天恩，却就唱喏而退。」玉帝道：「只得他无事，落得天上清平是幸。」

那大聖按落祥光，徑轉碗子山波月洞，尋出公主，將那思凡下界收妖的言語正然陳訴。The Great Sage lowered his auspicious light and headed straight back to Poyue Cave on Wanzi Mountain, sought out the princess, and told her in full, just as it had happened, of how the star had longed for the mortal world and descended, and how the demon had now been rounded up.只聽得半空中八戒、沙僧厲聲高叫道：「師兄，有妖精，留幾個兒我們打耶。」行者道：「妖精已盡絕矣。」沙僧道：「既把妖精打絕，無甚罣礙，將公主引入朝中去罷。Just then, from midair, Bajie and Sha Seng could be heard shouting loudly: "Elder Brother, if there are demons, save a few for us to fight!" Xingzhe said: "The demons are already all wiped out." Sha Seng said: "Since the demons have been wiped out entirely, there's nothing more to worry about — let's bring the princess into the court.不要睜眼，兄弟們使個縮地法來。」Don't open your eyes — brothers, let's use the earth-shrinking technique."

那大圣按落祥光，径转碗子山波月洞，寻出公主，将那思凡下界收妖的言语正然陈诉。只听得半空中八戒、沙僧厉声高叫道：「师兄，有妖精，留几个儿我们打耶。」行者道：「妖精已尽绝矣。」沙僧道：「既把妖精打绝，无甚罣碍，将公主引入朝中去罢。不要睁眼，兄弟们使个缩地法来。」

那公主只聞得耳內風響，霎時間徑回城裡，他三人將公主帶上金鑾殿上。The princess only heard the wind whistling in her ears, and in an instant she was already back in the city; the three of them brought the princess up onto the golden throne hall.那公主恭拜了父王、母后，會了姊妹。The princess respectfully bowed to her father the king and her mother the queen, and was reunited with her sisters.各官俱來拜見。All the officials in turn came to pay their respects.那公主才啟奏道：「多虧孫長老法力無邊，降了黃袍怪，救奴回國。」那國王問曰：「黃袍是個甚怪？」行者道：「陛下的駙馬是上界的奎星，令愛乃侍香的玉女，因思凡降落人間。Only then did the princess report: "It was all thanks to Elder Sun's boundless magical power, who subdued the Yellow-Robe Demon and saved your servant to return to the kingdom." The king asked: "What kind of demon was this Yellow Robe?" Xingzhe said: "Your Majesty's son-in-law was the Kui Star from Heaven above, and your beloved daughter was the Jade Maiden who tended the incense; because of longing for the mortal world, she descended into the human realm.不非小可，都因前世前緣，該有這些姻眷。This was no small matter — it was all due to a bond of fate from a former life, destined to bring about this marriage tie.那怪被老孫上天宮啟奏玉帝，玉帝查得他四卯不到，下界十三日，就是十三年了。──蓋天上一日，下界一年。──隨差本部星宿收他上界，貶在兜率宮立功去訖。That demon, after old Sun went up to Heaven and reported to the Jade Emperor, was found upon investigation to have missed four roll-calls, thirteen days absent from Heaven below — which comes to thirteen years. (For one day in Heaven is one year in the world below.) The Jade Emperor at once dispatched the star's own department to bring him back up to Heaven, demoted to the Tushita Palace to perform meritorious service.老孫卻救得令愛來也。」那國王謝了行者的恩德，便教：「看你師父去來。」Old Sun has thus been able to rescue your beloved daughter and bring her back." The king thanked Xingzhe for his great kindness, and then said: "Go and see to your master."

那公主只闻得耳内风响，霎时间径回城里，他三人将公主带上金銮殿上。那公主恭拜了父王、母后，会了姊妹。各官俱来拜见。那公主才启奏道：「多亏孙长老法力无边，降了黄袍怪，救奴回国。」那国王问曰：「黄袍是个甚怪？」行者道：「陛下的驸马是上界的奎星，令爱乃侍香的玉女，因思凡降落人间。不非小可，都因前世前缘，该有这些姻眷。那怪被老孙上天宫启奏玉帝，玉帝查得他四卯不到，下界十三日，就是十三年了。──盖天上一日，下界一年。──随差本部星宿收他上界，贬在兜率宫立功去讫。老孙却救得令爱来也。」那国王谢了行者的恩德，便教：「看你师父去来。」

他三人徑下寶殿，與眾官到朝房裡，擡出鐵籠，將假虎解了鐵索。The three of them went straight down from the throne hall, and together with the assembled officials went to the court chamber, brought out the iron cage, and released the false tiger from its iron chains.別人看他是虎，獨行者看他是人。To everyone else's eyes he looked like a tiger; only Xingzhe alone saw him as a man.原來那師父被妖術魘住，不能行走，心上明白，只是口眼難開。It turned out that the master had been bound fast by the demon's magic and could not move, though his mind remained clear — it was only that his mouth and eyes were hard to open.行者笑道：「師父啊，你是個好和尚，怎麼弄出這般個惡模樣來也？Xingzhe laughed and said: "Master, ah, you're such a fine monk — how did you come to make yourself into such a wretched shape as this?"你怪我行兇作惡，趕我回去，你要一心向善，怎麼一旦弄出個這等嘴臉？」八戒道：「哥啊，救他救兒罷，不要只管揭挑他了。」行者道：「你凡事攛唆，是他個得意的好徒弟，你不救他，又尋老孫怎的？You blamed me for committing violence and evil, and drove me away, saying you wanted to devote your heart wholly to goodness — so how is it that you've suddenly ended up with a face like this?" Bajie said, "Brother, just save him, save him — don't keep picking at him." Wukong said, "You're the one who eggs everyone on in everything, you're his favorite prize disciple — if you won't save him, why come looking for old Sun?原與你說來，待降了妖精，報了罵我之仇，就回去的。」沙僧近前跪下道：「哥啊，古人云：『不看僧面看佛面。』兄長既是到此，萬望救他一救。I told you from the start — once I'd subdued the demon and repaid the grudge of being cursed at, I'd go back." Sha Seng came forward, knelt down, and said, "Brother, the ancients said, 'If you won't look at the monk's face, look at the Buddha's.' Since elder brother has come this far, I beg you with all my heart to save him.若是我們能救，也不敢許遠的來奉請你也。」行者用手挽起道：「我豈有安心不救之理？If we ourselves were able to save him, we would never have dared to come so far to invite you." Wukong took him by the hand and pulled him up, saying, "How could I possibly bring myself not to save him?快取水來。」那八戒飛星去驛中，取了行李、馬匹，將紫金缽盂取出，盛水半盂，遞與行者。Quickly fetch some water." Bajie flew off like a shooting star to the post-station, fetched the luggage and horse, took out the purple-gold begging bowl, filled it half full of water, and handed it to Wukong.行者接水在手，念動真言，望那虎劈頭一口噴上，退了妖術，解了虎氣。Wukong took the water in hand, recited the true words, and spat it straight onto the tiger's head — this dispelled the demonic magic and dissolved the tiger's aura.

他三人径下宝殿，与众官到朝房里，抬出铁笼，将假虎解了铁索。别人看他是虎，独行者看他是人。原来那师父被妖术魇住，不能行走，心上明白，只是口眼难开。行者笑道：「师父啊，你是个好和尚，怎么弄出这般个恶模样来也？你怪我行凶作恶，赶我回去，你要一心向善，怎么一旦弄出个这等嘴脸？」八戒道：「哥啊，救他救儿罢，不要只管揭挑他了。」行者道：「你凡事撺唆，是他个得意的好徒弟，你不救他，又寻老孙怎的？原与你说来，待降了妖精，报了骂我之仇，就回去的。」沙僧近前跪下道：「哥啊，古人云：『不看僧面看佛面。』兄长既是到此，万望救他一救。若是我们能救，也不敢许远的来奉请你也。」行者用手挽起道：「我岂有安心不救之理？快取水来。」那八戒飞星去驿中，取了行李、马匹，将紫金钵盂取出，盛水半盂，递与行者。行者接水在手，念动真言，望那虎劈头一口喷上，退了妖术，解了虎气。

長老現了原身，定性睜睛，才認得是行者。The elder returned to his original form, steadied his mind and opened his eyes, and only then recognized Wukong.一把攙住道：「悟空，你從那裡來也？」沙僧侍立左右，把那請行者，降妖精，救公主，解虎氣，並回朝上項事，備陳了一遍。He grabbed hold of him and said, "Wukong, where have you come from?" Sha Seng, standing attendant at his side, laid out the whole story in full — inviting Wukong, subduing the demon, saving the princess, dissolving the tiger's aura, and returning to court — all the matters in order.三藏謝之不盡道：「賢徒，虧了你也，虧了你也。Sanzang thanked him without end, saying, "Worthy disciple, I owe it all to you, I owe it all to you.這一去，早詣西方，徑回東土，奏唐王，你的功勞第一。」行者笑道：「莫說，莫說，但不念那話兒，足感愛厚之情也。」國王聞此言，又勸謝了他四眾。On this journey, once we reach the Western Heaven early and return straight to the Land of the East to report to the Tang emperor, your merit will be counted first." Wukong laughed and said, "Say no more, say no more — so long as you don't recite that spell, I'll be deeply grateful for your generous feeling." When the king heard this, he once again urged wine on and thanked the four of them.整治素筵，大開東閣。He had a vegetarian feast prepared and threw open the eastern chambers wide.他師徒受了皇恩，辭王西去。Master and disciples, having received the emperor's favor, took their leave of the king and set off west.國王又率多官遠送。The king again led many officials to see them off a long way.這正是：This is just as it is said:
